Following several damaging earthquakes in China, research has been devoted to find the causes of the collapse of reinforced concrete （RC） building sand studying the vulnerability of existing buildings. The Chinese Code for seismic design of Buildings （CCsdB） has evolved over time, however, there is still reported earthquake induced damage of newly designed RC buildings. Thus, to investigate modern Chinese seismic design code, three low-, mid- and high-rise RC frames were designed according to the 2010 CCsdB and the corresponding vulnerability curves were derived by computing a probabilistic seismic demand model （PsdM）.The PsdM was computed by carrying out nonlinear time history analysis using thirty ground motions obtained from the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center. Finally, the PsdM was used to generate fragility curves for immediate occupancy, significant damage, and collapse prevention damage levels. Results of the vulnerability assessment indicate that the seismic demands on the three different frames designed according to the 2010 CCsdB meet the seismic requirements and are almost in the same safety level.

This contribution proposes a novel neural-network-based control approach to stabilize a nonlinear aeroelastic wing section. With the prerequisite that all the states of the system are available, the proposed controller requires no comprehensive information about structural nonlinearity of the wing section. Furthermore, the proposed control approach requires no human intervention of designing goal dynamics and formulating control input function, which is difficult to be realized by the typical neural-network-based control following an inverse control scheme. simulation results show that the proposed controller can stabilize the aeroelastic system with different nonlinearities.

second-harmonic generation allows for coherently bridging distant regions of the optical spectrum,with applications ranging from laser technology to self-referencing of frequency ***,accessing the nonlinear response of a medium typically requires high-power bulk sources,specific nonlinear crystals,and complex optical setups,hindering the path toward large-scale *** we address all of these issues by engineering a chip-scale second-harmonic(sH)source based on the frequency doubling of a semiconductor laser self-injection-locked to a silicon nitride *** injection-locking mechanism,combined with a high-Q microresonator,results in an ultra-narrow intrinsic linewidth at the fundamental harmonic frequency as small as 41 *** to the extreme resonant field enhancement,quasi-phase-matched second-order nonlinearity is photoinduced through the coherent photogalvanic effect and the high coherence is mapped on the generated sH *** show how such optical poling technique can be engineered to provide efficient sH generation across the whole C and L telecom bands,in a reconfigurable fashion,overcoming the need for poling *** device operates with milliwatt-level pumping and outputs sH power exceeding 2 mW,for an efficiency as high as 280%/W under electrical *** findings suggest that standalone,highly-coherent,and efficient sH sources can be integrated in current silicon nitride photonics,unlocking the potential of x(2)processes in the next generation of integrated photonic devices.

Glass series with general formula 25Li2O-（75-x）B2O3-xNd2O3 was prepared by conventional melt quench technique. Electrical and optical characterizations of these glasses were carried out. It was observed that conductivity of glasses decreased and activation energy in- creased with the addition of Nd2O3. The density and refractive index of the glasses increased while optical band gap and radiation length de- creased due to structural changes.

Effect of Gd2O3 addition on optical properties of 27.5 Li2O-72.5 B2O3 glass systems was studied. density, differential thermal analysis （dTA）, optical absorption spectra and luminescence technique were used to characterize the prepared glasses. Emis- sion spectra showed two band 6p7/2→8s7/2 （311.5 nm） and 6p5/2→8s7/2 （305 nm） under the excitation of 274 nm. The intense emission at 311.5 nm suggested that these glasses could be useful as source of narrowband UV light.

Background:Collecting and studying live sperm is central to many important fields of ***,a simple method to collect live sperm is lacking in wild seabird ***,we describe a non?invasive method to collect viable sperm samples based on a simple massage technique applied to male Black?legged Kittiwakes(Rissa tridactyla).Methods:We studied a colony breeding at Kongsfjorden,svalbard and successfully obtained sperm samples from 32 *** a subset of samples(n = 12 males),we compared the suitability of several extenders(0.9% NaCl,PBs,Earle's balance salt solution,dulbecco's modified Eagle medium) in maintaining sperm alive long enough for *** another 18 ejaculates,we conducted computer assisted sperm analyses using the CAsA plugin for *** provide details about the settings to be used for such ***,droplets from 20 ejaculates were smeared on glass slides and preserved with formalin to characterize sperm morphology in terms of total sperm length,sperm head length,midpiece length and flagellum length,and percentage of abnormal ***:With this method and under field conditions,we were able to obtain sufficient amounts of live sperm to assess traits related to sperm quality(*** morphology,percentage of motile sperm,sperm velocity).We found that two extenders,Earle's balanced salt solution and dulbecco modified Eagle's medium,yielded similarly good ***,we investigated whether specific behaviours were associated with successful sperm collection and whether sperm collection success depended on how long before laying sperm collection was ***,we provide mean values for sperm morphology,sperm swimming ability and percentage of motile sperm,which may prove useful for future comparative analyses,and we report high levels of sperm abnormality and within?ejaculate variation in sperm ***:We discuss the high percentage of abnormal sperm and high within?ejaculate variation in sperm

Plant aggregate-based building materials are a viable solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing good thermal and acoustic *** this study,the investigated lightweight mortars require a hydraulic *** and on-site empirical observations about plant aggregate-based materials indicate a delay in setting time and a decrease in the mechanical performances of concretes based on plant *** natural origin of plant-aggregates causes a lot of variability in their *** studies have shown that the incompatibility between plant aggregates and cement is mainly caused by the dissolved and decomposed components of plant aggregates in alkaline ***,no research on the specific impact of each component on the setting time of lime-based binder *** this work,the impact of some soluble compounds(e.g.,sucrose,glucose,fructose,pectin)on the setting reaction of the lime matrix was studied using Vicat test,thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and FT-IR *** results showed that carbohydrates such as glucose and sucrose not only affect the setting time but also have a long-term impact on the carbonation of *** measure of the setting time by Vicat test appears as a possible indicator to predict the compatibility between the matrix and plant aggregates.

Performance of Chemical Vapor deposited Boron-doped AlN Thin Film as Thermal Interface Materials for 3-W LEd: Thermal and Optical Analysis

Boron-doped aluminum nitride （B-AlN） thin films were synthesized on Al substrates by using chemical vapor deposition method by changing the synthesis parameters and were used as thermal interface material for high power light emitting diode （LEd）. The B-AlN thin film-coated Al substrate was used as heat sink and studied the performance of high power LEd at various driving currents. The recorded transient cooling curve was evaluated to study the rise in junction temperature （Tj）, total thermal resistance （gth_tot） and the substrate thermal resistance （Rth_sub） of the given LEd. From the results, the B-AlN thin film （prepared at process 4） interfaced LEd showed low Rth-tot and Tj value for all driving currents and observed high difference in Rth_tot （△Rth_tot =2.2 K/W） at 700 mA when compared with the Rth-tot of LEd attached on bare Al substrates （LEd/Al）. The Tj of LEd was reduced considerably and observed 4.7 ℃ as ATj for the film prepared using process 4 condition when compared with LEd/Al boundary condition at 700 mA. The optical performance of LEd was also tested for all boundary conditions and showed improved lux values for the given LEd at 700 mA where B-AlN thin film was synthesized using optimized flow of Al, B and N sources with minimized B and N content. The other optical parameters such as color correlated temperature and color rendering index were also measured and observed low difference for all boundary conditions. The observed results are suggested to use B-AlN thin film as efficient solid thin film thermal interface materials in high power LEd.
