The wear resistances of austempered ductile iron （ADI） were improved through intxoduction of a new phase （carbide） into the ma- txix by addition of chromium. In the present investigation, low-caxbon-equivalent ductile iron （LCEDI）（CE = 3.06%, and CE represents cax- bon-equivalent） with 2.42% chromium was selected. LCEDI was austeintized at two difl＇erent temperatures （900 and 975~C） a^ld soaked for 1 h and then quenched in a salt bath at 325~C for 0 to 10 h. samples were analyzed using optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Wear tests were carded out on a pin-on-disk-type machine. The efl＇ect of austenization temperature on the wear resistance, impact strength, and the mi- crostructure was evaluated. A stxucture-property correlation based on the observations is established.

A facile approach was developed to construct Fe_(2)O_(3)-modified ZnO micro/nanostructures with excellent superhydrophobicity and photocatalytic *** effects of stearic acid(sA)and Fe_(2)O_(3) on the morphological characteristics,water contact angle(WCA),and photocatalytic degradation were *** results showed that WCA increased from 144°±2°to 154°±2°when the weight of sA increased from 5 to 20 mg because of the formation of a hierarchical or rough ***,Fe_(2)O_(3)-modified ZnO micro/nanostructure surfaces before and after sA treatment(20 mg)were chosen to evaluate the photodegradation of methylene blue(MB)dye under the support of visible *** degraded after 80 min of irradiation,and its photodegradation efficiencies were 91.5%at the superhydrophobic state and 92%at the hydrophilic *** improvement in photocatalytic activity at both states might be attributed to an increase in surface area and improvement in charge carrier separation.

In this study,the effect of core bar inserted into weld faying part to obtain an ideal pipe joint with non-generating inner flash via friction welding is described.A steel pipe with inner and outer diameters corresponding to 8.0 mm and 13.5 mm was used,and the weld faying surface was machined to a groove shape of a flat(butt)*** core bar of various materials was inserted in the weld faying part of the pipes,and those pipes were welded with a friction speed of 27.5 s−1 and friction pressure of 30 *** core bars did not decrease inner flash when joints were fabricated with a core bar of some metallic materials with melting points below that of steel;thus,they were melted during the welding *** joint with an alumina core bar did not decrease inner flash and was crushed by generating an inner ***,a commercially pure tungsten(CP-W)core bar was successfully achieved for decreasing the inner ***,all joints with a CP-W core bar did not exhibit the tensile strength of the base metal and a fracture in the base metal,when they were fabricated during the same time,the friction torque reached the initial *** joint exhibited a fracture in the base metal when it was fabricated with a CP-W core bar and a taper groove shape that was proposed in the previous ***,the core bars were easily removed from the joints;thus the joint with almost no inner flash was successfully *** reduce the inner flash of pipe joints,they should be fabricated with a CP-W core bar inserted into the weld faying part with a taper groove shape.

Current approaches for simulating the energy performance of buildings on a large scale are limited by numerous assumptions and simplifications,which can lead to inaccurate *** new tools and procedures are emerging to improve accuracy,there remains a need for more user-friendly *** study proposes a new tool based on online maps to create the geometry of districts in a simple *** tool also enables an automatic evaluation of all buildings through dynamic hourly simulations,using a building simulation software and allowing to consider different weather *** illustrate the procedure,a district at risk of energy poverty in seville(spain)is modeled,where hourly temperature data for a whole year are available to demonstrate the need for building *** tool is used to evaluate the energy demands of the district under several retrofitting alternatives,and free-floating simulations are also performed to evaluate the improvement of thermal comfort without air-conditioning *** aim is not to discuss the actual values for this particular case,but rather to identify the correct direction for large-scale studies,so as to make them more easily ***,it may be concluded that the results provided by comprehensive tools,such as the one proposed in this study,enable easy yet accurate evaluations of buildings on a large scale with significant time savings,as well as the identification of locations where retrofitting interventions would have the greatest impact.

It is important to understand how ballistic materials respond to impact from projectiles such that informed decisions can be made in the design process of protective armour systems. Ballistic testing is a standards-based process where materials are tested to determine whether they meet protection, safety and performance criteria. For the V50ballistic test, projectiles are fired at different velocities to determine a key design parameter known as the ballistic limit velocity(BLV), the velocity above which projectiles perforate the target. These tests, however, are destructive by nature and as such there can be considerable associated costs, especially when studying complex armour materials and systems. This study proposes a unique solution to the problem using a recent class of machine learning system known as the Generative Adversarial Network(GAN). The GAN can be used to generate new ballistic samples as opposed to performing additional destructive experiments. A GAN network architecture is tested and trained on three different ballistic data sets, and their performance is compared. The trained networks were able to successfully produce ballistic curves with an overall RMsE of between 10 and 20 % and predicted the V50BLV in each case with an error of less than 5 %. The results demonstrate that it is possible to train generative networks on a limited number of ballistic samples and use the trained network to generate many new samples representative of the data that it was trained on. The paper spotlights the benefits that generative networks can bring to ballistic applications and provides an alternative to expensive testing during the early stages of the design process.

Currently,construction of facilities in the Arctic is carried out on sand islands,but there are limitations for remote coastal *** restrictions are associated with the lack of quarries with construction sand in the immediate vicinity of the work site,as well as the risk of seasonal flooding of the *** article includes conceptual solutions for construction of modular piling in Arctic nearshore conditions,upon which drilling rigs and auxiliary equipment can be placed for the purpose of subsequent wildcatting,development and exploratory extended reach drilling wells(with measured depth about 15000 m).During the construction of the modular piling foundations,a mathematical simulation of the thermodynamic condition of the frozen ground was conducted,and the bearing capacity of the foundations was *** proposed solutions will solve these problems by constructing modular pile foundations and placing the necessary infrastructure on them,taking into account the distribution of loads during operation in seasonally flooded areas.

A controlled rocking concentrically steel braced frame(CR-CsBF)is introduced as an alternative to conventional methods to prevent major structural damage during large *** is equipped with elastic post-tensioned(PT)cables and replaceable devices or fuses to provide overturning resistance and dissipate energy,*** CR-CsBFs are not officially legalized in globally valid codes for new buildings,it is expected to be presented in them in the near *** main goal of this study is to determine the optimal design parameters consist of the yield strength and modulus of elasticity of the fuse,the initial force of the PT cable,and the gravity load on the rocking column,considering different heights of the frame,spanning ratios and ground motion types for dual-configuration *** time-history analyses are performed in *** study aims to define the optimal input variables as effective design parameters of CR-CsBFs by comparing four seismic responses consisting of story drift,roof displacement,roof acceleration and base shear,and also using the Euclidean metric optimization *** the previous research,this study is innovative and first of its *** results demonstrate that the optimal design parameters are variable for various conditions.
