Influence of bio-inspired flow channel designs on the performance of a PEM fuel cell

Performance of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)is appreciably affected by the channel *** branching structure of a plant leaf and human lung is an efficient network to distribute the nutrients in the respective *** same nutrient transport system can be mimicked in the flow channel design of a PEMFC,to aid even reactant distribution and better water *** this work,the effect of bio-inspired flow field designs such as lung and leaf channel design bipolar plates,on the performance of a PEMFC was examined experimentally at various operating conditions.A PEMFC of 49 cm2 area,with a Nafion 212 membrane with a 40%catalyst loading of 0.4 mg·cm-2 on the anode side and also 0.6 mg·cm-2 on the cathode side is assembled by incorporating the bio-inspired channel bipolar plate,and was tested on a programmable fuel-cell test *** impact of the working parameters like reactants’relative humidity(RH),back pressure and fuel cell temperature on the performance of the fuel cell was examined;the operating pressure remains constant at 0.1 *** was observed that the best performance was attained at a back pressure of 0.3 MPa,75°C operating temperature and 100%*** three flow channels were also compared at different operating pressures ranging from 0.1 MPa to 0.3 MPa,and the other parameters such as operating temperature,RH and back pressure were set as 75°C,100%and 0.3 *** experimental outcomes of the PEMFC with bio-inspired channels were compared with the experimental results of a conventional triple serpentine flow *** was observed that among the different flow channel designs considered,the leaf channel design gives the best output in terms of power ***,the experimental results of the leaf channel design were compared with those of the interdigitated leaf channel *** PEMFC with the interdigitated leaf channel design was found to generate 6.72%more power density than the non-interdigitated leaf channel design.

Performance evaluation of the incorporation of different wire meshes in between perforated current collectors and membrane electrode assembly on the Passive Direct methanol fuel cell

Passive Direct methanol fuel cells(DMFC)are more suitable for charging small capacity electronic *** passive DMFC,the fuel and oxidant are supplied by diffusion and natural convection process on the anode and cathode sides *** collectors(CC)play a vital importance in fuel cell *** paper presents the combined impact of perforated and wire mesh current collectors(WMCC)on passive DMFC *** types of open ratios of perforated current collectors(PCC),such as 45.40%,55.40%and 63.40%and two types of wire mesh current collectors with open ratios of 38.70%and 45.40%were chosen for the experimental work.A combination of TaguchiL9 rule is considered.A combination of three PCC and two WMCC on both anode and cathode was *** concentration was varied from 1 mol·L^(-1)-5 mol·L^(-1)for nine combinations of PCC and *** the experimental results,it is noticed that the combination of PCC and WMCC with an open ratio of 55.40%and 38.70%incorporated passive DMFC produced peak power density at 5 mol·L^(-1)of methanol *** passive DMFC performance was evaluated in terms of maximum power density and maximum current *** combined current collectors of PCC and WMCC open ratios of 55.40%+38.70%have more stable voltage than single PCC of open ratio 63.40%at 4 mol·L^(-1)of methanol concentration.

Lactobionic Acid as a New synergist in Combination with Phosphonate-Zn(Ⅱ)system for Corrosion Inhibition of Carbon steel

studies on lactobionic acid introduced as a synergist in the presence of phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid （PBTC） and zinc ions for corrosion control of carbon steel in aqueous environment are presented. The investigations revealed that lactobionic acid （LBA） acts as an excellent synergist in corrosion inhibition. Optimum concentrations of all the three components of the ternary formulation are established by gravimetric studies. Potentiodynamic polarization studies indicate that the new ternary system is a mixed inhibitor. Impedance studies show that a protective film is formed on the metal surface in the presence of the inhibitor formulation. The film is found to exhibit its protective nature even at higher temperatures up to 60 ~C. Analysis of the protective film by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPs） and reflection absorption Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） spectroscopy infers the presence of Zn（OH）2, oxides and hydroxides of iron and the inhibitor molecules in the surface film probably in the form of a complex, [Zn（II）-PBTC-LBA]. The morphological studies by scanning electron microscopy （sEM） and the topographical studies by atomic force microscopy （AFM） also indicate the presence of protective film on the metal surface. A plausible mechanism of corrosion inhibition is proposed.

The detection of small targets poses a significant challenge for infrared search and tracking (IRsT) systems,as they must strike a delicate balance between accuracy and *** this paper,we propose a detection algorithm based on spatial attention density peaks searching (sADPs) and an adaptive window selection ***,the difference-of-Gaussians (DoG) filter is introduced for preprocessing raw infrared ***,the image is processed by ***,an adaptive window selection scheme is applied to obtain window templates for the target scale ***,the small target feature is used to enhance the target and suppress the ***,the true targets are segmented through a *** experimental results show that compared with the seven state-of-the-art small targets detection baseline algorithms,the proposed method not only has better detection accuracy,but also has reasonable time consumption.

Effect of pulsed current micro plasma arc welding process parameters on fusion zone grain size and ultimate tensile strength of Inconel 625 sheets

The paper focuses on developing mathematical models to predict grain size and ul- timate tensile strength of pulsed current micro plasma arc welded Inconel 625 nickel alloy. Four factors, five levels, central composite rotatable design matrix is used to op- timize the number of experiments. The mathematical models have been developed by response surface method. The adequacy of the models is checked by analysis of vari- ance technique. By using the developed mathematical models, grain size and ultimate tensile strength of the joints can be predicted with 99% confidence level. Contour plots are drawn to study the interaction effect of pulsed current micro plasma arc welding parameters on fusion zone grain size and ultimate tensile strength of Inconel 625 weld joints.

Copy-Move Forgery Verification in Images Using Local Feature Extractors and Optimized Classifiers

Passive image forgery detection methods that identify forgeries without prior knowledge have become a key research *** copy-move forgery,the assailant intends to hide a portion of an image by pasting other portions of the same *** detection of such manipulations in images has great demand in legal evidence,forensic investigation,and many other *** paper aims to present copy-move forgery detection algorithms with the help of advanced feature descriptors,such as local ternary pattern,local phase quantization,local Gabor binary pattern histogram sequence,Weber local descriptor,and local monotonic pattern,and classifiers such as optimized support vector machine and optimized *** proposed algorithms can classify an image efficiently as either copy-move forged or authenticated,even if the test image is subjected to attacks such as JPEG compression,scaling,rotation,and brightness ***,CAsIA,and MICC datasets and a combination of CoMoFoD and CAsIA datasets images are used to quantify the performance of the proposed *** proposed algorithms are more efficient than state-of-the-art algorithms even though the suspected image is post-processed.

Xception-Fractalnet:Hybrid Deep Learning Based Multi-Class Classification of Alzheimer’s Disease

Neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease(AD)are very challenging to treat due to their sensitivity,technical challenges during surgery,and high *** complexity of the brain structures makes it difficult to distinguish between the various brain tissues and categorize AD using conventional classification ***,conventional approaches take a lot of time and might not always be ***,a suitable classification framework with brain imaging may produce more accurate findings for early diagnosis of *** in this paper,an effective hybrid Xception and Fractalnet-based deep learning framework are implemented to classify the stages of AD into five ***,a network based on Unet++is built to segment the tissues of the ***,using the segmented tissue components as input,the Xception-based deep learning technique is employed to extract high-level ***,the optimized Fractalnet framework is used to categorize the disease condition using the acquired *** proposed strategy is tested on the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative(ADNI)dataset that accurately segments brain tissues with a 98.45%of dice similarity coefficient(DsC).Additionally,for themulticlass classification of AD,the suggested technique obtains an accuracy of 99.06%.Moreover,ANOVA statistical analysis is also used to evaluate if the groups are significant or *** findings show that the suggested model outperforms various stateof-the-art methods in terms of several performance metrics.

Passive activity enhances residual control ability in patients with complete spinal cord injury

Patients with complete spinal cord injury retain the potential for volitional muscle activity in muscles located below the spinal injury ***,because of prolonged inactivity,initial attempts to activate these muscles may not effectively engage any of the remaining neurons in the descending pathway.A previous study unexpectedly found that a brief clinical round of passive activity significantly increased volitional muscle activation,as measured by surface *** this study,we further explored the effect of passive activity on surface electromyographic signals during volitional control tasks among individuals with complete spinal cord *** patients with chronic complete thoracic spinal cord injury were *** electromyography data from eight major leg muscles were acquired and compared before and after the passive activity *** results indicated that the passive activity led to an increased number of activated volitional muscles and an increased frequency of *** the cumulative root mean square of surface electromyography amplitude for volitional control of movement showed a slight increase after passive activity,the difference was not statistically *** findings suggest that brief passive activity may enhance the ability to initiate volitional muscle activity during surface electromyography tasks and underscore the potential of passive activity for improving residual motor control among patients with motor complete spinal cord injury.

Fiber Loading of Date Palm and Kenaf Reinforced Epoxy Composites:Tensile,Impact and Morphological Properties

Date palm fiber(DPF)and kenaf fiber were reinforced in epoxy having various fiber loading 40%,50%,and 60%by *** hybrid samples were manufactured by hot press technique and then characterized for tensile,impact,and morphological behavior to evaluate the ratio of fibers in the hybrid composites;the addition of kenaf improved the tensile properties,scanning Electron Microscopy(sEM)revealed the interfacial bonding of fiber/matrix,and dispersion and void content in *** test studies reflected the effect of natural fiber with epoxy,level of stress transfer from matrix to reinforced material,and reinforced material’s role in absorbing the *** showed that 50%of DPF had the best shock-absorbing *** obtained results indicated that 30%DPF in hybrid composite showed improved tensile properties and homogeneous distribution of fiber without void content;however,50%DPF loading in hybrid composites had the best impact properties.
