Leaf rust(LR) and stripe rust(YR) are important diseases in wheat producing areas worldwide and cause severe yield losses under favorable environmental conditions when susceptible varieties are grown. We determined the genetic basis of resistance to LR and YR in variety Borlaug 100 by developing and phenotyping a population of 198 F6 recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross with the susceptible parent Apav#1. LR and YR phenotyping were conducted for 4 and 3 seasons, respectively, at CIMMYT research stations in Mexico under artificial epidemics. Mendelian segregation analyses indicated that 3–5 LR and 2 YR genes conferred resistance in Borlaug 100. Lr46/Yr29(1 BL), Yr17(2 As) and Yr30(3 Bs) were present in the resistant parent and segregated in the RIL population based on characterization by molecular markers linked to these genes. When present alone, Lr46/Yr29 caused average 13% and 16% reductions in LR and YR severities, respectively, in RILs. similarly, Yr17 and Yr30 reduced YR severities by 57% and 11%, respectively. The Yr30 and the Yr17 translocation were also associated with 27% and 14% reductions, respectively, in LR severity, indicating that the 3 Bs and 2 As chromosomal regions likely carry new slow rusting LR resistance genes, temporarily designated as Lr B1 and Lr B2, respectively. Additive effects of Yr30*Yr17, Yr29*Yr17 and Yr29*Yr30 on YR and LR were significant and reduced YR severities by 56%,55%, and 45%, respectively, and LR severities by 34%, 40%, and 45%, respectively. Furthermore, interaction between the three genes was also significant, with mean reductions of 70% for YR and 54% for LR severities. Borlaug 100, or any one of the 21 lines with variable agronomic traits but carrying all three colocated resistance loci, can be used as resistance sources in wheat breeding programs.

One of the key challenges for achieving stable lithium(Li) metal anode is the construction of the rational solid electrolyte interphase(sEI),but its realization still faces enormous *** this work,a robust artificial fluorinated hybrid interphase consisting of lithium-bismuth(Li3Bi) alloy and lithium-fluoride(LiF) was designed to regulate Li deposition without Li dendrite *** obtained hybrid interphase showed the high Li+diffusion rate(3.5 × 10^(-4)s cm^(-1)),high electron resistivity(9.04 × 10^(4)Ω cm),and high mechanical strength(1348 MPa),thus enabling the uniform Li deposition at the Li/sEI ***,Li3Bi alloy,as a superionic conductor,accelerated the Li+transport and stabilized the hybrid ***,LiF was identified as a superior electron-blocker to inhibit the electron tunneling from the Li anode into the *** a result,the modified Li anode showed the stable Li plating/stripping behaviors over 1000 cycles even at 20 mA cm^(-2).Moreover,it also enabled the Li(50 μm)‖LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2)(4.4 mA h cm^(-2)) full cell to achieve an average Coulombic efficiency(CE) of 99.6%and a high-capacity retention of 79.2% after 100 cycles,whereas the bare Li anode only exhibited a low-capacity retention of 8.0%.This work sheds light on the internal mechanism of Li+transport within the hybrid interface and provides an effective approach to stabilize the interface of Li metal anode.

Rural implementation of the perioperative surgical home:A case-control study

BACKGROUND Perioperative surgical home(PsH)is a novel patient-centric surgical system developed by American society of Anesthesiologist to improve outcomes and patient *** has proven success in large urban health centers by reducing surgery cancellation,operating room time,length of stay(LOs),and readmission ***,only limited studies have assessed the impact of PsH on surgical outcomes in rural *** To evaluate the newly implemented PsH system at a community hospital by comparing the surgical outcomes using a longitudinal case-control *** The research study was conducted at an 83-bed,licensed level-III trauma rural community hospital.A total of 3096 TJR procedures were collected retrospectively between January 2016 and December 2021 and were categorized as PsH and non-PsH cohorts(n=2305).To evaluate the importance of PsH in the rural surgical system,a case-control study was performed to compare TJR surgical outcomes(LOs,discharge disposition,and 90-d readmission)of the PsH cohort against two control cohorts[Control-1 PsH(C1-PsH)(n=1413)and Control-2 PsH(C2-PsH)(n=892)].statistical tests including Chi-square test or Fischer’s exact test were performed for categorical variables and Mann-Whitney test or student’s t-test were performed for continuous *** general linear models(Poisson regression and binomial logistic regression)were performed to fit adjusted *** The LOs was significantly shorter in PsH cohort compared to two control cohorts(median PsH=34 h,C1-PsH=53 h,C2-PsH=35 h)(P valuesimilarly,the PsH cohort had lower percentages of discharges to other facilities(PsH=3.5%,C1-PsH=15.5%,C2-PsH=6.7%)(P values no statistical difference observed in 90-d readmission between control and PsH ***,the PsH implementation reduced the 90-d readmission percentage(PsH=4.7%,C1-PsH=6.1%,C2-PsH=3.6%)lower than the national average 30-d readmission percentage which is 5.5%.The PsH system was effecti

Arsenic(As)is a known carcinogen and naturally occurring semi-metal in soils and in the Earth's *** of soils and water with As poses a serious threat to millions of people worldwide due to its health hazards and toxicological ***,devising novel and efficient methods for remediation of contaminated areas has attracted a great deal of interest across the *** this study,we investigated the usefulness of synthetic birnessite,goethite,hexadecylpyridinium chloride-modified montmorillonite(HDPC-M),hexadecylpyridinium bromide-modified zeolite(HDPB-Z),and lanthanum(La)-doped magnetic biochar produced from eucalyptus bark(La-Euchar)as adsorbents at 10%dosage for As stabilization in a soil spiked with 1000 mg kg^(-1)*** effectiveness of the above adsorbents in As immobilization in soil was assessed using single-step extractions with 2 mol L^(-1)HNO_(3)and deionized water,the simplified bioaccessibility extraction test(sBET)method,and sequential extraction with the modified Community Bureau of Reference(BCR)*** of the adsorbents shifted the exchangeable fraction of As to more recalcitrant fractions and dramatically reduced the exchangeable fraction by 6%-99%and the extractable amounts with HNO_(3),deionized water,and sBET method by 30%-92%,17%-95%,and 12%-90%,respectively,compared to the unamended *** immobilizing effects of adsorbents on As decreased in the sequence of birnessite>La-Euchar>goethite>HDPB-Z>*** exhibited great affinity for As and drastically reduced As extractability by more than 90%in all single *** results revealed that HDPC-M,HDPB-Z,La-Euchar,birnessite,and goethite are promising immobilizing agents for in situ stabilization of As in terrestrial environments.

Nutrient composition of pill millipede manure of the Western Ghats, India

Nutrient composition of the manure of four pill millipedes （Arthrosphaera dalyi, ,4. davisoni, ,4. fumosa and,4, magna） inhabiting in semi-evergreen forests and plantations of the Western Ghats of southwest India was evaluated. The quantity and quality of fecal pellets differed between millipedes and their habitats （forest and plantation）. Organic carbon content in manure was lower in plantations than in forests, while nitrogen content was elevated in plantations. The carbon to nitrogen （C/N） ratio of manure was lower in plantations compared to forests. The phosphorus content in manure was elevated in plantations in all except for A. dalyi. Calcium content of manure was increased in plantations than in forests. The contents of magnesium, potassium and phenolics in manure showed varied results. The mass of fecal pellets was correlated only with volume in forests （r=0.882; p 〈0.01） and pH in plantations （r=0.616; p 〈0.05）, while the volume of fecal pellets was correlated with nitrogen content in forests （r=0.751; p 〈0.01） and cal- cium in plantations （=0.619; p 〈0.05）. The conductivity was positively correlated with phosphorus and potassium, while magnesium was negatively correlated in forests as well as plantations. Potassium and magnesium were negatively correlated in forests （r=0.920; p〈0.001） and plantations （t=0.692; p 〈0.05）. Overall, the physicochemical characteristics and nutrient composition of fecal pelets differed between millipedes as well as habitats. The low carbon to nitrogen ratio and the increased nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium content in the manure of millipedes inhabiting in plantations indicates possibilities for successfully employing them for in situ composting of forest or plantation residues.

Unified MPPT Controller for Partially shaded Panels in a Photovoltaic Array

The power output of the photovoltaic(PV) system having multiple arrays gets reduced to a great extent when it is partially shaded due to environmental hindrances. The maximum power trackers which are conventionally used may not be competent enough to find the maximum power point(MPP) during partially shaded conditions. The sensible reason for the failure of conventional trackers is during partial shaded conditions the PV arrays exhibit multi peak power curves, thereby making simple maximum power point tracking(MPPT) algorithms like perturb and observe(P&O) to get stuck with local maxima instead of capturing global ***, global search MPPT aided by evolutionary and swarm intelligence algorithms will be conducive to find global power point during partially shaded conditions. This work suggests a unified controller which feeds control signal to its power electronic conditioner placed at each module. The evolutionary algorithm which is taken into consideration in this work is differential evolution(DE).The performance of the proposed method is compared to the classical un-dimensional search controller and it is evident from the Matlab/simulink results that the unified controller prevails over the distributed counterpart.

Identifying the optimal HVOF spray parameters to attain minimum porosity and maximum hardness in iron based amorphous metallic coatings

Flow based Erosion e corrosion problems are very common in fluid handling equipments such as propellers, impellers, pumps in warships, submarine. Though there are many coating materials available to combat erosionecorrosion damage in the above components, iron based amorphous coatings are considered to be more effective to combat erosionecorrosion problems. High velocity oxy-fuel(HVOF)spray process is considered to be a better process to coat the iron based amorphous powders. In this investigation, iron based amorphous metallic coating was developed on 316 stainless steel substrate using HVOF spray technique. Empirical relationships were developed to predict the porosity and micro hardness of iron based amorphous coating incorporating HVOF spray parameters such as oxygen flow rate, fuel flow rate, powder feed rate, carrier gas flow rate, and spray distance. Response surface methodology(RsM) was used to identify the optimal HVOF spray parameters to attain coating with minimum porosity and maximum hardness.

Evidences for Incipient Hydrothermal Event(s) in the Central Indian Basin: A Review

The Central Indian Basin (CIB, 10°-19°s) encompasses morphotectonic features such as seamounts, abyssal hills, faults, fracture zones and lineations and basic to silicic volcanics that were derived from different sources. Instances of incipient hydrothermal event (s) occurred as evident from: (1) spilites that probably formed due to low-temperature hydrothermal action on the precursory basalts, (2) slabs and fragments of zeolitites which are the consequent products of palagonitization of the basaltic glasses, (3) chemical variations in the ferromanganese crusts, and (4) abundance of volcanogenic-hydrothermal material (vhm) that includes ochrous sediments and magnetite spherules. The vhm suggests its origin by interaction of Fe-rich hydrothermal solutions with surrounding sediments. The CIB spherules occur in sediments of~10 ka and ~425 to 650 ka age and are orders of magnitude younger than the 50 to 60 Ma age of the basin. Incidentally, to the north of the basin at ODP site 717-719(1 °s/81 °E) hydrothermal precipitates of inorganic calcite and deposition of sulphide minerals (~7.5 to 9 Ma and 0.5 Ma) occur as a result of the on-going intraplate deformation. This paper reviews the above evidences that possibly indicate episodes of localized hydrothermal events in the CIB.
