Influence of Formulation and Hot-Pressing Conditions on the Performance of Bio-Based Molasses Adhesive for Plywood

Molasses can serve as a natural adhesive for plywood and particleboard. However, several disadvantages remain, including lower dimensional stability and low bonding strength compared to other adhesives. Therefore, modifications are needed to use molasses as an adhesive for plywood. This research aims to improve bio-based molasses (MO) adhesive for plywood using citric acid (CA) adhesive. In addition, this research aims to analyze the effect of adding citric acid and to investigate the optimum hot-pressing temperature to produce the best quality plywood. In the first stage, the molasses and citric acid were combined in a ratio of 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, 0:100 w/w%. Then, the second stage focuses on analyzing the influences of pressing temperature based on an optimum first stage. The research demonstrated that the addition of CA altered the gelation time, solid content, visc-osity, and pH of the molasses adhesives. In addition, the thermal properties of molasses adhesives were changed after mixing with citric acid. These phenomena indicate changes in characteristics, such as the curing of adhesive. Overall, the characteristics of plywood showed a steady improvement as the CA ratio increased but revealed a significant decline for the 25:75 MO-CA ratio. By raising the pressing temperature from 180°C to 200°C, the quality of plywood was effectively improved. The plywood that was bonded using adhesives with a 50:50 MO-CA ratio exhibited superior mechanical properties and improved dimensional stability compared to the plywood bonded solely with MO. Furthermore, the optimal mechanical and physical properties resulted in plywood bonded with a 50:50 MO-CA ratio when subjected to a pressing temperature of 200°C. The Thermal and FTIr measurements revealed that CA established ester bonds with both the MO and wood veneers. In conclusion, the mechanical characteristics of plywood were improved, while maintaining its excellent dimensional stability. © 2024 The Authors.

Attitude and willingness on gamete donation among medical students:An experience from a state university in sri Lanka

Objective:To assess the attitude and willingness of medical students of the Faculty of Medicine,University of Jaffna,regarding gamete ***:An institutional-based des.riptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine,University of Jaffna,from september 2022 to May 2023 among undergraduate medical students who gave their voluntary participation.A self-administered questionnaire was used as a study instrument to collect data regarding their attitude and willingness toward gamete ***:A total of 345 participants were recruited and their sociodemographic data revealed that 56.8%of the participants were female,62.3%aged between 26 and 30 years,and 92.2%were *** of them received information regarding gamete donations during their clinical *** half(67.8%)of them showed a negative attitude towards gamete *** willingness,only 39.7%of participants had a positive approach for being a gamete donor;among them,84.7%preferred anonymous *** and ethnicity had a significant influence on their attitudes and *** addition,male was also found to be more willing to donate ***:Most medical students have negative views about gamete *** awareness and knowledge of assisted reproductive technology and gamete donation within medical students'sociocultural and ethical backgrounds might facilitate a change in attitude towards gamete donation amongst future medical practitioners.

Laparoscopic management of remnant gall bladder with stones: Lessons from a tertiary care centre's experience

Objective:Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is currently the gold standard for treating symptomatic gallstone *** its success,approximately 10%of patients may experience persistent biliary symptoms,leading to the post-cholecystectomy syndrome.A remnant gallbladder with cystic duct or bile duct stones is one of the causes of this *** objective of this study was to shed light on the clinical manifestations,evaluation,therapeutic strategies,and outcomes associated with laparoscopic management of symptomatic remnant ***:This was a retrospective study,conducted over a five-year period(January 2017 to December 2022)at Apollo Hospitals in south *** patients who underwent laparoscopic completion cholecystectomy for a remnant gall bladder were *** following data were collected:patient demographics,symptoms,preoperative investigations,intraoperative details and post operative ***:In total,36 patients were included and *** majority of patients were male(25,69.4%),with a mean age of 50.7±12.1 *** most common presentation was pain in the upper abdomen or right upper quadrant region(24,66.7%).The laparoscopic approach was attempted in all patients,with a success rate of 94.4%.Two patients required conversion to open *** fistula to the colon was observed in one *** was observed in 7 patients(19.4%),and stone clearance was successfully achieved using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in all patients ***:Incomplete gall bladder removal either intentionally or unintentionally leaves a remnant gall bladder that is at risk for stone formation and *** who have this clinical entity with symptoms require a redo or complete cholecystectomy,a complex procedure associated with certain *** study highlights the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic completion cholecystectomy for the management of remnant gallbladder
