Is early patent ductus arteriosus ligation helpful in premature neonates? A 10-year retrospective study

Background To compare short and long outcomes between early(≤28 days)(EL)and late ligation(LL)*** explore factors predicting early extubation(≤7 days)after patent ductus arteriosus(PDA)*** We conducted a single center,retrospective cohort study of preterm infantss who underwent surgical ligation over a 10-year period(2009-2019).results A total of 133 infants underwent PDA ligation,in the study *** groups had similar short-term outcome such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD)or death(96%vs.98%,P=0.64)and long-term clinical outcomes including Bayley's assessment at 2 years corrected *** infants in the EL group developed severe BPD(63%vs.81%,P=0.02).Age at ligation had adjusted odds ratio of 1.04 with over lapping confidence interval(95%CI 1.0-1.1,P=0.02)for severe BPD/*** was no difference in day of extubation between the EL and LL group(8 days vs.7 days,P=0.85).Left atrium/aortic root ratio of ≥1.75 would give sensitivity of 41% and 80% specificity for early extubation(area under the curve of 0.61).There was marginal reduction of hospital stay in the EL group[113(105-121)days vs.115(107-123)days;log rank P=0.026].Conclusion EL can be delivered safely with a clinically important lower incidenee of severe BPD and shorter duration of hospital stay compared to LL.

To understand nonylphenol （NP） contamination in the northeast coastal environment in China, NP was determined in 19 sediment and 20 bivalve samples collected during November 2005. NP was identified in all sediment samples in the range of 8.8 to 1.0 × 10^3 ng/g dw （dry weight）, with an average of 0.12 × 10^3 ng/g dw. Most of the bivalve samples （oysters and mussels） contained detectable amounts of NP that ranged from ND （not detected） to 7.6 × 10^3 ng/g dw, with an average value of 0.79 × 10^3 ng/g dw. These results indicated that NP is ubiquitous in sediments and bivalves from the northeast coast of China, and are even present in bivalves sold as seafood. serious contamination with NP was recorded off the coast of Bohai strait and in semi-enclosed coastal environment such as Jiaozhou Bay and Liaodong Bay. Possible environmental and human health implications were understood in this study.

The palladium nanoparticle grafted manganese oxyhydroxide nanorod(MON) electrocatalyst has been synthesized and tested for the electrooxidation of ethylene glycol(EG) in an alkaline medium. The MON was prepared using the hydrothermal method and the Pd nanoparticles were coated on the MON using an in situ reduction method. The nanocatalyst thus prepared was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electrochemical methods. The microscopic studies confirm the formation of MON and reveal that the Pd nanoparticles were grafted uniformly on the MON. In the voltammetric studies, the Pd/MON catalyst exhibited a six-fold improved peak current for ethylene glycol electrooxidation compared with the C/Pd. The EG electrooxidation reaction performances of the Pd/MON nanocatalyst in the alkaline solutions containing different quantities of EG were tested through cyclic voltammetry. The catalytic removal of the poisonous intermediates formed during electrooxidation of EG was explained. The present study shows that MON can act as an active support for the Pd nanocatalyst.

Developing effective and long-term treatment strategies for rare and complex neurodegenerative diseases is challenging. One of the major roadblocks is the extensive heterogeneity among patients. This hinders understanding the underlying disease-causing mechanisms and building solutions that have implications for a broad spectrum of patients. One potential solution is to develop personalized medicine approaches based on strategies that target the most prevalent cellular events that are perturbed in patients. Especially in patients with a known genetic mutation, it may be possible to understand how these mutations contribute to problems that lead to neurodegeneration. Protein–protein interaction analyses offer great advantages for revealing how proteins interact, which cellular events are primarily involved in these interactions, and how they become affected when key genes are mutated in patients. This line of investigation also suggests novel druggable targets for patients with different mutations. Here, we focus on alsin and spastin, two proteins that are identified as “causative” for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and hereditary spastic paraplegia, respectively, when mutated. Our review analyzes the protein interactome for alsin and spastin, the canonical pathways that are primarily important for each protein domain, as well as compounds that are either Food and Drug Administration–approved or are in active clinical trials concerning the affected cellular pathways. This line of research begins to pave the way for personalized medicine approaches that are desperately needed for rare neurodegenerative diseases that are complex and heterogeneous.

The current research work proposed a novel optimization-based 2D-sIMM(Two-Dimensional sine Iterative chaotic map with inﬁnite collapse Mod-ulation Map)model for image *** proposed 2D-sIMM model is derived out of sine map and Iterative Chaotic Map with Inﬁnite Collapse(ICMIC).In this technique,scrambling effect is achieved with the help of Chaotic shift Transform(CsT).Chaotic shift Transform is used to change the value of pixels in the input image while the substituted value is cyclically shifted according to the chaotic sequence generated by 2D-sIMM *** chaotic sequences,generated using 2D-sIMM model,are sensitive to initial *** the proposed algorithm,these initial conditions are optimized using JAYA optimization *** coefﬁcient and entropy are considered asﬁtness functions in this study to evaluate the best solution for initial *** simulation results clearly shows that the proposed algorithm achieved a better performance over existing *** addition,the VLsI implementation of the proposed algorithm was also carried out using Xilinx system *** optimization,the correlation coefﬁcient was-0.014096 and without optimization,it was 0.002585.

Autism spectrum disorder（AsD） refers to a group of childhood neurodevelopmental disorders with polygenic etiology. The expression of many genes implicated in AsD is tightly regulated by various factors including microrNAs（mirNAs）, a class of noncoding rNAs 22 nucleotides in length that function to suppress translation by pairing with ‘mirNA recognition elements’（MrEs） present in the 30untranslated region（30UTr） of target mrNAs. This emphasizes the role played by mirNAs in regulating neurogenesis, brain development and differentiation and hence any perturbations in this regulatory mechanism might affect these processes as well. recently, single nucleotide polymorphisms（sNPs） present within 30UTrs of mrNAs have been shown to modulate existing MrEs or even create new MrEs. Therefore, we hypothesized that sNPs perturbing mirNA-mediated gene regulation might lead to aberrant expression of autism-implicated genes, thus resulting in disease predisposition or pathogenesis in at least a subpopulation of AsD individuals. We developed a systematic computational pipeline that integrates data from well-established databases. By following a stringent selection criterion, we identified 9 MrE-modulating sNPs and another 12 MrE-creating sNPs in the 30UTr of autism-implicated genes. These high-confidence candidate sNPs may play roles in AsD and hence would be valuable for further functional validation.

Objective:To evaluate the antibacterial activity of Halophila stipulacea(***), Cymodocea serrulata(***) and Halodule pinifolia(***) against seven human bacterial ***:The antibacterial activities of the extracts on the various test organisms using disc diffusion method and Minimum Inhibitory Concentraction(MIC).results: Methanol and chloroform extracts of all the three seagrasses were active against all the tested pathogens,whereas the hexane extract of seagrasses was not active against staphylococcus aureus (***).Antibacterial activity of three seagrass screened,was in the order of *** > ***.> ***:This antibacterial studies can further investigated on seagrasses for purification of bioactive substance and its possible utility in disease control.
