Tendril-bearing climbing plants must recur to the tendril helices with chiral perversion or dual chirality for climbing and to obtain sun exposure. Despite researchers' prolonged fascination with climbing tendrils since Darwin's time and even earlier, why the soft and slender tendrils can bear heavy loads such as the self-weight of a plant or additional load caused by rain remains elusive. In this paper, we take towel gourd tendrils as an example and investigate the macroscopic and microscopic mechanical behaviors of tendrils through experiments and simulations. Our study indicates that the tendril filament exhibits rubber-like hyperelastic behaviors and can particularly endure large elongation, which is mainly attributed to the superelasticity of the cellulose fibril helix contained in the cell wall. Combination of the tendril helical structure with dual chirality or chiral perversion at a macroscale and a cellulose filament helix at a subcellular level creates superior elasticity for biological species relying on support and climbing. This study provides deep insight into the structure-property relationship of climbing tendrils, and the relationship is useful for the bioinspired design of composite systems with superior elasticity.

Modern power systems are incorporated with distributed energy sources to be environmental-friendly and ***,due to the uncertainties of the system integrated with renewable energy sources,effective strategies need to be adopted to stabilize the entire power ***,the system operators need accurate prediction tools to forecast the dynamic system states *** this paper,we propose a Bayesian deep learning approach to predict the dynamic system state in a general power ***,the input system dataset with multiple system features requires the data pre-processing ***,we obtain the dynamic state matrix of a general power system through the Newton-Raphson power flow ***,by incorporating the state matrix with the system features,we propose a Bayesian long short-term memory(BLsTM)network to predict the dynamic system state variables *** results show that the accurate prediction can be achieved at different scales of power systems through the proposed Bayesian deep learning approach.

This paper reports the molecular assembly in the LB film of a novel bolaamphiphilic anthracene derivative (BIsANs) in comparison with that of one-headed amphiphilic anthracene derivative (ANs). While ANs formed a stretched monolayer at the air/water interface, BIsANs underwent aggregation to form crystal film on the water surface. Both of the H-aggregates and J-aggregates exist in the transferred LB films of bolaamphiphilic BIsANs, only J-aggregates formed in the LB film of ANs.

The influence of the concentration of Zn2+ ions on zinc electroplating process was investigated by means of electrochemical noise (EN) and cyclic voltammetry methods in conjunction with the scanning electron microscopy (sEM) technique. It was found that the EN generated during the electroplating of dentritic or large polymeric zinc deposit has large potential oscillation amplitude and positive potential drift while the compact zinc deposit possesses small noise amplitude and little potential drift. With the change of rate determining step from diffusion-control through mixed-control to activation-control, the maximum relative energy obtained from wavelet analysis defined from the region with larger scales to those with smaller scales, and the EDP (relative energy distribution plot) can be us, as 'fingerprints' of EN to characterize the electroplating process and the deposit structure. The results also showed that electrochemical noise technique can give more information about the electrodeposit structure than other normal electrochemical measurements, such as linear potential sweep method and cyclic voltammetry technique.

By using isothermal double hit compression tests and applying the 2% offset method, a new model was developed to predict the microstructural evolution of Nb-bearing steels at temperatures above and below the start temperature of strain-induced precipitation （Tp）. The Tp was developed as a function of true strain, initial austenite grain size and the Nb content. The activation energy of static recrystallization （qrex） was expressed as a function of the content of different alloy elements. It was found that Nb played the most important role in increasing the value of qrex, The microstructural observations and measurements confirmed the validity of the model developed in the present investigation.
