Assess.ng the effects of model parameter assumptions on surface-wave inversion results

surface-wave inversion is a powerful tool for revealing the Earth's internal structure. However, aside from shear-wave velocity (vs), other parameters can influence the inversion outcomes, yet these have not been systematically discussed. This study investigates the influence of various parameter assumptions on the results of surface-wave inversion, including the compressional and shear velocity ratio (vP/vs), shear-wave attenuation (Qs), density (ρ), Moho interface, and sedimentary layer. We constructed synthetic models to generate dispersion data and compared the obtained results with different parameter assumptions with those of the true model. The results indicate that the vP/vs ratio, Qs, and density (ρ) have minimal effects on absolute velocity values and perturbation patterns in the inversion. Conversely, assumptions about the Moho interface and sedimentary layer significantly influenced absolute velocity values and perturbation patterns. Introducing an erroneous Moho-interface depth in the initial model of the inversion significantly affected the vs model near that depth, while us.ng a smooth initial model results in relatively minor deviations. The assumption on the sedimentary layer not only affects shallow structure results but also impacts the result at greater depths. Non-linear inversion methods outperform linear inversion methods, particularly for the assumptions of the Moho interface and sedimentary layer. Joint inversion with other data types, such as receiver functions or Rayleigh wave ellipticity, and us.ng data from a broader period range or higher-mode surface waves, can mitigate these deviations. Furthermore, incorporating more accurate prior information can improve inversion results. © 2024 The Authors

soybean pests are one of the major factors limiting yield improvement. With the ex.ansion of area and changes in cropping patterns, a number of new pests have been identified in the main soybean production areas of China. The common brown leafhopper, Orosius orientalis, is a new pest associated with soybean stay-green virus that has been discovered on cultivated soybean crop in the Yellow-Huai-hai region of China in recent years. The polyphagous insect has a wide feeding range and infests a variety of important grain and cash crops. This paper presents the basic information, geographical distribution, hosts, damage characteristics, plant virus transmission, occurrence patterns, and prevention and control measures O. orientalis. This review also provides insights into integrated prevention and control of the genus Orosius as an insect vector. © 2024 the Oil Crop Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agriculture sciences

Ex.sting lithospheric velocity models ex.ibit similar structures typically associated with the first-order tectonic features, with dissimilarities due to different data and methods used in model generation. The quantification of model structural similarity can help in interpreting the geophysical properties of Earth's interior and establishing unified models crucial in natural hazard assessment and resource ex.loration. Here we employ the complex.wavelet structural similarity index.measure (CW-ssIM) active in computer image process.ng to analyze the structural similarity of four lithospheric velocity models of Chinese mainland published in the past decade. We take advantage of this method in its multiscale definition and insensitivity to slight geometrical distortion like translation and scaling, which is particularly crucial in the structural similarity analysis of velocity models accounting for uncertainty and resolution. Our results show that the CW-ssIM values vary in different model pairs, horizontal locations, and depths. While variations in the inter-model CW-ssIM are partly owing to different databases in the model generation, the difference of tomography methods may significantly impact the similar structural features of models, such as the low similarities between the full-wave based FWEA18 and other three models in northeastern China. We finally suggest potential solutions for the nex. generation of tomographic modeling in different areas according to corresponding structural similarities of ex.sting models. © 2023 The Authors

Interfacial stress engineering toward enhancement of ferroelectricity in Al doped HfO2 thin films

Ferroelectric HfO2 has attracted much attention owing to its superior ferroelectricity at an ultra-thin thickness and good compatibility with si-based complementary metal-ox.de-semiconductor (CMOs) technology. However, the crystallization of polar orthorhombic phase (o-phase) HfO2 is less competitive, which greatly limits the ferroelectricity of the as-obtained ferroelectric HfO2 thin films. Fortunately, the crystallization of o-phase HfO2 can be thermodynamically modulated via interfacial stress engineering. In this paper, the growth of improved ferroelectric Al doped HfO2 (HfO2:Al) thin films on (111)-oriented si substrate has been reported. structural analysis has suggested that nonpolar monoclinic HfO2:Al grown on (111)-oriented si substrate suffered from a strong compressive strain, which promoted the crystallization of (111)-oriented o-phase HfO2 in the as-grown HfO2:Al thin films. In addition, the in-plane lattice of (111)-oriented si substrate matches well with that of (111)-oriented o-phase HfO2, which further thermally stabilizes the o-phase HfO2. Accordingly, an improved ferroelectricity with a remnant polarization (2P(r)) of 26.7 mu C/cm(2) has been obtained. The results shown in this work provide a simple way toward the preparation of improved ferroelectric HfO2 thin films.

Comparison of Adaptive simulation Observation Ex.eriments of the Heavy Rainfall in south China and sichuan Basin

This study ex.mines the effectiveness of adaptive observation ex.eriments us.ng the ensemble transformation sensitivity (ETs) method to improve precipitation forecasts during heavy rainfall events in south China and the sichuan Basin. High-resolution numerical models are employed to simulate adaptive observations. By identifying the sensitive areas of key weather system positions 42 hours before heavy rainfall events, the adaptive observations improve the prediction of jet streams, strong winds, and shear lines, which are essential for accurate heavy rainfall forecasting. This improvement is reflected in both the precipitation structure and location accuracy within the verification region. In south China, targeted observations enhance rainfall predictions by improving water vapor transport. In the sichuan Basin, adaptive observations refine water vapor transport and adjust vortex.dynamics. This research highlights the importance of accurately predicting shear lines and jet streams for forecasting heavy rainfall in these areas. Overall, this study found that adaptive observation enhances the precipitation forecast skills of the structure and location for heavy rainfall in south China and the sichuan Basin, emphasizing their potential utility in operational numerical weather prediction. © Institute of Atmospheric Physics/Chinese Academy of sciences, and science Press 2024.

Jetting-based bioprinting: process, dispense physics, and applications

Jetting-based bioprinting facilitates contactless drop-on-demand deposition of subnanoliter droplets at well-defined positions to control the spatial arrangement of cells, growth factors, drugs, and biomaterials in a highly automated layer-by-layer fabrication approach. Due to its immense versatility, jetting-based bioprinting has been used for various applications, including tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, wound healing, and drug development. A lack of in-depth understanding ex.sts in the processes that occur during jetting-based bioprinting. This review paper will comprehensively discuss the physical considerations for bioinks and printing conditions used in jetting-based bioprinting. We first present an overview of different jetting-based bioprinting techniques such as inkjet bioprinting, laser-induced forward transfer bioprinting, electrohydrodynamic jet bioprinting, acoustic bioprinting and microvalve bioprinting. Nex., we provide an in-depth discussion of various considerations for bioink formulation relating to cell deposition, print chamber design, droplet formation and droplet impact. Finally, we highlight recent accomplishments in jetting-based bioprinting. We present the advantages and challenges of each method, discuss considerations relating to cell viability and protein stability, and conclude by providing insights into future directions of jetting-based bioprinting. The generation of ultrashort high-power light sources in the mid-infrared(mid-IR)to terahertz(THz)range is of interest for applications in a number of fields,from fundamental research to biology and *** conventional laser technology,photon deceleration in plasma wakes provides an alternative approach to the generation of ultrashort mid-IR or THz ***,we present a photon deceleration scheme for the efficient generation of ultrashort mid-IR or THz pulses by us.ng an intense driver laser pulse with a relatively short wavelength and a signal laser pulse with a relatively long *** signal pulse trails the driver pulse with an appropriate time delay such that it sits at the front of the second wake bubble that is driven by the driver *** to its relatively long wavelength,the signal pulse will be subjected to a large gradient of the refractive index.in the plasma wake ***,the photon deceleration in the plasma wake becomes faster and more efficient for signal pulses with longer *** greatly enhances the capacity and efficiency of photon deceleration in the generation of ultrashort high-power light sources in the long-wavelength IR and THz spectral ranges.
