Background and objective: f.eniculum vulgare-Mill (Umllif.rae), is widely used in the Arabian Peninsula f.r treating various human and animal diseases. There is need to insure the saf.ty of.this plant as a remedy that could be used f.r a long time. This study aimed to determine the LD50 of.the aerial parts of.f.eniculum vulgare in mice, as well as to investigate its toxic pathological ef.ects. Methodology: A total of.eighty (80) albino mice of.both sexes, weighing 25 - 30 g, were used in the present study. Ten (10) mice were used f.r the determination of.LD50 of.f.eniculum vulgare in mice. f.f.y (50) mice were used in the acute toxicity, and twenty (20) mice were used to study the subacute toxicity of.the aerial parts of.f.eniculum vulgare juice. Results: the present results revealed that the LD50 of.f.eniculum vulgare juice in mice was 9.772 mg/kg/body weight (BW). On the other hand, mice received 0.9 mg/kg/BW of.f.eniculum vulgare juice intraperitoneally showed slightly closed eyes intermittent convulsions itching of.the nose and increased respiratory rate and abdominal movements. Histopathological examination of.the liver showed hepatocytic degeneration and necrosis, congestion with perivascular mononuclear cell inf.ltrations and peribiliary mononuclear cell aggregations. Whereas the spleen of.mice showed depletion of.lymphocytes and mononuclear as well as multinuclear cells. The duodenum showed sub-epithelial congested blood vessels, numerous areas of.lymphocytic inf.ltrations and vascular and hydropic degeneration of.epithelial cells lining the duodenal brunner’s glands. Moreover, the kidney showed degenerated tubular epithelial cells, congestion with excess of.mononuclear cells, necrotic and desquamated epithelial cells of.the proximal convoluted tubules. The lung of.mice showed congestion, emphysema with variable degrees of.mononuclear cell inf.ltrations and peribronchial congested blood capillaries and mononuclear cell inf.ltration. Heart f.ilure is common in older people and its prevalence is *** Heart ＇omics＇ in AGEing（HOMAGE） project aims to provide a biomarker approach that will improve the early diagnosis of.heart f.ilure.A large clinical database,based on（1） prospective population studies or（2） cross-sectional,prospective studies or randomized controlled trials（RCTs） of.patients at risk f.r or with overt cardiovascular disease will be constructed to determine most promising ＇omics＇-based biomarkers to identif. the risk of.developing heart f.ilure and/or *** studies,patient cohorts and RCTs are eligible f.r inclusion in the common database,if.they received ethical approval to obtain and share data and have baseline inf.rmation on cardiovascular risk ***,the HOMAGE database includes 43,065 subjects,f.om 20 studies in eight European countries,including healthy subjects f.om three population studies in f.ance,Belgium and Italy（n = 7,124）,patients with heart f.ilure（n = 4,312） f.om f.ur cohorts in the UK,spain and switzerland and patients at high risk f.r cardiovascular disease（n = 31,629） in 13 *** is anticipated that more partners will join the consortium and enlarge the pooled *** large merged database will be a usef.l resource with which to identif. candidate biomarkers that play a role in the mechanism underlying the onset and progression of.heart f.ilure.

The Interannual Variability of.East Asian Winter monsoon and Its Relation to the summer monsoon

Based on the NCEP/ NCAR reanalysis data the interannual variability of.the East Asian winter mon-soon (EAWM) is studied with a newly def.ned EAWM intensity index. The marked f.atures f.r a strong (weak) winter monsoon include strong (weak) northerly winds along coastal East Asia, cold (warm) East Asian continent and surrounding sea and warm (cold) ocean f.om the subtropical central Pacif.c to the trop-ical western Pacif.c, high (low) pressure in East Asian continent and low (high) pressure in the adjacent ocean and deep (weak) East Asian trough at 500 hPa. These interannual variations are shown to be closely connected to the ssT anomaly in the tropical Pacif.c, both in the western and eastern Pacif.c. The results suggest that the strength of.the EAWM is mainly inf.uenced by the processes associated with the ssT anom-aly over the tropical Pacif.c. The EAWM generally becomes weak when there is a positive ssT anomaly in the tropical eastern Pacif.c (El Ni?o), and it becomes strong when there is a negative ssT anomaly (La Ni?a). Moreover, the ssT anomaly in the south China sea is f.und to be closely related to the EAWM and may persist to the f.llowing summer. Both the circulation at 850 hPa and the rainf.ll in China conf.rm the connection between the EAWM and the f.llowing East Asian summer monsoon. The possible reason f.r the recent 1998 summer f.ood in China is brief.y discussed too.
