Members of the Botryosphaeriaceae are well known fungi associated with dieback,canker and fruit rot on various hosts worldwide,including *** aim of this study was identify a large collection of Botryosphaeriaceae species associated with dieback and stem-end rot of mango in the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil,and compare the species in relation to mycelial growth,pathogenicity and virulence.A total of 115 isolates were sampled and based on morphology and DNA sequence data(ITs and ef1-α)seven taxa were identified,namely,Botryosphaeria dothidea,***,Fusicoccum fabicercianum,Neofusicoccum parvum,*** ***,Neoscytalidium dimidiatum and Pseudofusicoccum *** and *** were the most commonly isolated species,which represented 37%and 33%of all isolates *** is reported for the first time in association with mango diseases *** were significant differences among the species obtained in this study in relation to optimum temperature for mycelial growth and mycelial growth *** species were pathogenic on mango *** were significant differences in virulence among the species,with *** and *** being the most virulent species,while *** was the least virulent.

OBJECTIVE To assess the role of beta-blockers(BB)in patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)aged≥75 *** AND REsULTs From January 2008 to July 2014,we included 390 consecutive patients≥75 years of age with ejection fraction≤35%and glomerular filtration rate(GFR)≤60 m L/min per 1.73 m^*** analyzed the relationship between treatment with BB and mortality or cardiovascular *** mean age of our population was 82.6±4.1 *** ejection fraction was 27.9%±6.5%.GFR was 60-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 50.3%of patients,45-30 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 37.4%,andsion of follow-up,67.4%of patients were receiving *** median follow-up was28.04(IR:19.41-36.67)*** the study period,211 patients(54.1%)died and 257(65.9%)had a major cardiovascular event(death or hospitalization for heart failure).BB use was significantly associated with a reduced risk of death(HR=0.51,95%CI:0.35-0.74;Ps receiving BB consistently showed a reduced risk of death across the different stages of CKD:stage IIIa(GFR=30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;HR=0.47,95%CI:0.26-0.86,Pstage IIIb(GFR 30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;HR=0.55,95%CI:0.26-1.06,P=0.007),and stages IV and V(GFRsIONs The use of BB in elderly patients with HFr ef and renal impairment was associated with a better *** of BB should be encouraged when possible.

Mango(Mangifera indica)is a major tropical fruit species cultivated in *** objective of this study was to identify species of Lasiodiplodia associated with dieback and stem-end rot of mango in the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil,and compare the species in relation to mycelial growth,pathogenicity and virulence.A total of 120 isolates of Lasiodiplodia were used and identifications were made using a combination of morphology and phylogenetic analysis based on partial translation elongation factor 1-αsequence(ef1-α)and internal transcribed spacers(ITs).The following species were identified:Lasiodiplodia crassispora,***,***,***,***,*** and Lasiodiplodia sp..Lasiodiplodia theobromae was the most frequently isolated species,which represented 41%of all the *** this species had been previously reported on mango in Brazil,while the other species represent the first report associated with mango tree diseases in this *** crassispora is reported for the first time associated with mango diseases *** were significant differences in mycelial growth rates among the Lasiodiplodia species and also in the optimum temperature for *** species of Lasiodiplodia were pathogenic on mango *** were significant differences in virulence among the species,wherein *** and Lasiodiplodia *** the most virulent,while the least virulent were ***,***,*** and ***.

AIM: To investigate if the effect of statins improving cardiovascular(CV) status of diabetics is drug-specific or class-dependent, and the underlying mechanisms *** HOD s : We compared the results of daily administration over a four-week period of a low dose(10 mg/kg per day) of atorvastatin(AV), simvastatin(sV), and pravastatin(PV) on cardiac performance in diabetic rats. Echocardiographic variables were tested, as well as systolic blood pressure(sBP), acetylcholine(ACh)-induced relaxation, plasma cholesterol levels, and perivascular fibrosis. Malondialdehyde(MDA) and 4-hydroxyalkenal(4-HAE), and endothelial nitric oxide synthase(e NOs) and inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOs) protein levels were also measured in cardiac and aortic homogenates. REsULTs: In untreated diabetic rats, cholesterol levels were higher than in control rats(CT; n = 8, P se of statins used did not modify these levels. In diabetic rats, sBP was higher than in CT, and was significantly reduced by all three statins(n = 10, P s(ef, sV, and COI) were all lower in untreated diabetic rats than in CT(n = 10, P se CV parameters were equallyimproved by all three statins. The maximal relaxation(EMax) induced by ACh in aortic ring from diabetic rats was also improved. Moreover, this relaxation was abolished by 1 mmol/L NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester, suggesting the involvement of a NO-dependent mechanism. CONCLUsION: AV, sV, and PV are equally effective in improving CV performance in diabetic rats. All tree statins decreased media thickness, perivascular fibrosis, and both MDA and 4-HAE in the aortas of diabetic rats, without affecting e NOs and i NOs protein levels. The observed hemodynamic benefits are cholesterolindependent. These benefits appear to be secondary to the improved endothelial function, and to the reduced vascular tone and remodeling that result from decreased oxidative stress.

Aims: Functional mitral regurgitation(MR) and myocardial asynchronism occur commonly in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy and affect adversely their prognosis and symptoms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanisms of changes in MR severity during dynamic exercise in patients with chronic heart failure(CHF). Methods and results: seventy patients with CHF due to left ventricular(LV) systolic dysfunction [LV ejection fraction(ef)studied. All were in sinus rhythm. Medications were left unchanged for the study. Each patient performed a maximal symptom-limited exercise test with continuous 2D-Doppler echocardiography. Mitral regurgitant volume(RV) and effective regurgitant orifice(ERO) were determined at rest and during exercise. LV asynchrony using Doppler tissue imaging and interventricular asynchrony using conventional pulsed-Doppler were evaluated at rest. Resting LV ef averaged 25± 8% . Mean resting LV and interventricutar mechanical delays were 56± 50 and 43± 37 ms, respectively. The overall median values for mitral ERO and RV did not significantly change during dynamic exercise(11 [7-16] vs. 11 [6-21] mm2 and 14 [10- 22] vs. 12 [9-23] mL, respectively). However, changes in mitral ERO and RV were individually variable and significantly correlated with the degree of LV asynchronism(r=0.66, Pspectively). Conclusion: Changes in MR are variable during dynamic exercise. LV asynchronism at rest substantially contributes to worsening of functional MR during dynamic exercise in patients with CHF due to LV systolic dysfunction.

This study was conducted on the Ngaoundaba Crater Lake sediments to infer provenance,weathering conditions,organic matter accumulation,and trace metal *** Lake sediments were collected using a manual core sampler at 5 to 8 m water *** sediment cores from the littoral and center of the lake were analyzed for grain size distribution,water content(WC),organic matter content,mineralogy,and major and trace element *** Ngaoundaba sediments were classified as silt and sandy *** show high content in organic matter,which is more to the littoral than to the center of the lake,varying from 14.6%to 24%and21.2%to 40.8%,*** grain surface features identified by scanning Electron Microscopy(sEM)show both chemical and mechanical microtextures with subrounded to angular shape suggesting both proximal and distal *** lake sediments are composed of quartz,kaolinite,and hematite,with low amounts of feldspars,rutile,calcite,illite,and *** indices such as the chemical index of alteration(CIA),chemical index of weathering(CIW),and index of compositional variability(ICV)indicate moderate to intense chemical weathering in the source area and immature to mature *** geochemical composition indicates that the sediments were derived from felsic to intermediate igneous rocks,such as granitoids,and mafic alkali lavas like *** environmental risk assessment of trace metals obtained by enrichment factor(ef)and geo-accumulation index(I-geo)shows low contamination of the lake sediments.
