This study examines the construct validity and reliability of the Malay language questionnaire for urinary incontinence diagnosis (QUID) in women. study Design: Random sampling design was used in this cross-sectional survey. Materials and Methods: The Americanized English language questionnaire was translated to the Malay language and distributed to community-dwelling Malaysian women living in various locations in selangor. The construct validity was tested using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) followed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The reliability was determined using Cronbach’s α. Results: A total of 111 women completed the Malay language QUID in this pilot study. The Keiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measure of sampling adequacy of 0.675 and Bartlett’s test of sphericity (χ2 = 284.633, df = 15, p = 0.001) indicated that the EFA was possible. The total variance and the scree plot identified two factors above the initial eigenvalue of 1 while a third factor was just below it (0.758). The CFA output showed a recursive model with the solution being not admissible because two unobserved and exogenous variables had negative variance estimates. The following values of absolute fit indices showed an acceptable level of fit: 1) Chi-square test with χ2 = 4.997, df = 5, p = 0.416, indicated a smaller difference between the expected and observed covariance matrices;2) GFI = 0.986, AGFI = 0.939, RMR = 0.021 and CMIN/DF = 1.0 indicated acceptable level of fit;3) The baseline comparison values of NFI = 0.983 and CFI = 1.0 also indicated a good fit to the data;4) RMsEA = 0.000 was considered a perfect fit indicating that the hypothesized model was a good fit to the observed data. Under the hypothesis of “close fit”, the probability of getting a sample RMsEA as large as 0.000 was 0.567. The Cronbach’s α coefficient of 0.823 indicated good reliability. Optimization and shelf-Life Evaluation of Pearl Millet Based Halwa Dry Mix

Indian traditional sweet dish i.e. halwa was developed from pearl millet grains. Pearl millet grains （Pennisetum typhoides var. PHB-2168） were steamed for 20 min at 1.05 kg cm^2 in order to minimize lipase activity, total phenols, phytic acid and tannins content. steamed grains were dried （12 ± 0.5% moisture content）, pearled, milled, sieved through sieve opening size of 0.234 mm and were used for study. Central composite rotatable design （CCRD） with three independent variables i.e. vanaspati, sugar and water for rehydration were used to design the experiments. sensory responses and rehydration ratio were used to study the individual and interactive effects of variables. sensory score for colour varied from taste 6.3-7.9, mouth feel 6.4-7.8, overall acceptability （OAA） 6.5-7.9 and rehydration ratio （RR） from 1.4 to 2.3. All the responses fitted into quadratic equation with R2 〉 0.80. Halwa dry mix was also evaluated for stability in polyethylene pouches at ambient conditions and the peroxide and free fatty acids value were 21.35 meqO2 kg^-1 fat, 0.55% （oleic acid）, respectively after 6 months of storage. Based on compromise optimization, optimum levels of the ingredients recommended with 86.4% desirability were： vanaspati 38.6 g 100 g^-1 pearl millet semolina （PMs）, sugar 88.7 g 100 g^-1 PMs and water for rehydration 151 mL 100 g^-1 dry mix.

Transplacental haemorrhage in women having third trimester bleeding and perinatal outcome

Objectives: Present prospective study was carried out to know the frequency of transplacental fetomaternal hemorrhage in pregnancies complicated by third trimester vaginal bleeding and it’s correlation with fetoneonatal outcome. Material methods: One hundred, out of 170 Rh-positive primigravida/multigravida with singleton pregnancy of more than 28 weeks gestation, admitted with third trimester vaginal bleeding with no other obstetric disorder, were the study subjects and 100 controls were women with no bleeding, admitted immediately after the study case with same inclusion and exclusion criteria. Maternal peripheral blood was collected at admission and at 2 hours of delivery and volume of FMH was calculated by Kleihauer’s formula. Results: statistically significantly more perinatal deaths occurred in women with FMH, 35% in study subjects compared to 2.7% amongst controls. Conclusion: In the cases of third trimester bleeding and fetomaternal hemorrhage, chances of perinatal deaths are more.

Identification and Characterization of Heparan sulphate Binding Proteins of <i>Entamoeba histolytica</i>

A large number of microbial pathogens bind to heparan sulphate on eukaryotic cell surfaces. Heparan sulphate Binding Proteins (HsBPs) from Entamoeba histolytica culture lysates were obtained by sequential ammonium sulphate precipitation and Protein purify. sDs-PAGE and immunoblotting experiments indicated the presence of two major extracellular proteins in E. histolytica (51.2 kDa and 61.0 kDa). Characterization of HsBPs by 2D Gel electrophoresis of 40% (NH4)2sO4 precipitated lysate of E. histolytica revealed that the isoelectric point of 51.2 kDa HsBP was at pH3.0. The protein of 61.0 kDa HsBP showed three spots in 40% (NH4)2sO4 lysate which had isoelectric point between pH 4.0 - 7.0. While in 80% (NH4)2sO4 precipitated lysate, 51.2 kDa HsBP showed only one spot which had isoelectric point at pH 3. However, 61.0 kDa HsBP revealed 2 spots which had isoelectric point between pH 4 and 5. The result showed that this parasite has proteins which interact with heparan sulphate whose molecular formula is C14H23NO21s-23. These proteins may have a role in binding of parasite to heparan sulphate on host cells. Further characterization by MALDI-TOF analysis of HsBPs from E. histolytica demonstrated HsBPs to be novel protein in this parasite which has been isolated, purified and characterized first time by our group in the present study.

Impact of diabetes mellitus on risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality: Evidence on health outcomes and antidiabetic treatment in United states adults

AIMTo examine the epidemic of diabetes mellitus (DM) and its impact on mortality from all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD), and to test the effect of antidiabetic therapy on the mortality in United states adults. METHODs The analysis included a randomized population sample of 272149 subjects ages ≥ 18 years who participated in the National Health Interview surveys (NHIs) in2000-2009. Chronic conditions (hypertension, DM and CVD) were classified by participants’ self-reports of physician diagnosis. NHIs-Mortality Linked Files, and NHIs-Medical Expenditure Panel survey Linkage Fileson prescribed medicines for patients with DM were used to test the research questions. χ 2, Poisson and Cox’s regression models were applied in data *** Of all participants, 22305 (8.2%) had DM. The prevalence of DM significantly increased from 2000 to 2009 in all age groups (P sD= 3) years of follow-up, male DM patients had 1.56 times higher risk of death from all-cause (HR = 1.56, 95%CI:1.49-1.64), 1.72 times higher from heart disease [1.72 (1.53-1.93)], 1.48 times higher from cerebrovascular disease [1.48 (1.18-1.85)], and 1.67 times higher from CVD [1.67 (1.51-1.86)] than subjects without DM,respectively. similar results were observed in females. In males, 10% of DM patients did not use any antidiabetic medications, 38.1% used antidiabetic monotherapy, and 51.9% used ≥ 2 antidiabetic medications. These corresponding values were 10.3%, 40.4% and 49.4% in females. A significant protective effect of metformin monotherapy or combination therapy (except for insulin) on all-cause mortality and a protective but non-significant effect on CVD mortality were observed. CONCLUsION This is the first study using data from multiple linkage files to confirm a significant increased prevalence of DM in the last decade in the United states.
