s-1 is an oral 5-fluorouracil(5-FU) prodrug,which is designed to improve the antitumor activity of 5-FU by inhibiting dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase,the key enzyme of 5-FU ***,two important studies on the clinical use of s-1 for pancreatic cancer have been reported from *** the first study(GEsT study),s-1 demonstrated non-inferiority to gemcitabine(GEM) in overall survival(Os) for metastatic or locally advanced pancreatic cancer,but combination chemotherapy with GEM and s-1 did not show superiority to GEM in *** the second study(JAsPAC-01 study),s-1 showed superiority to adjuvant chemotherapy with GEM in Os in patients with resected pancreatic *** addition to GEM,s-1 is now regarded as the key drug in the management of pancreatic cancer in *** date,many studies have investigated the effectiveness of s-1 in various settings,such as first-line chemotherapy for metastatic or locally advanced pancreatic cancer,second-line chemotherapy after GEM failure,and chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced *** this review,we focus on recent clinical trials of s-1-based chemotherapy for advanced pancreatic cancer.

We performed ultrasonic measurements on a quaternary cubic compound PrRu_(2)In_(2)Zn_(18) to explore the ground state properties derived from non-Kramers Γ_(3) doublet of Pr^(3+).PrRu_(2)In_(2)Zn_(18) is a quaternary derivative of the ternary compound PrRu_(2)Zn_(20) that exhibits a structural phase transition at T_s=138 *** PrRu_(2)In_(2)Zn_(18),the Zn atoms at the 16c site in PrRu_(2)Zn_(20) are selectively replaced by In atoms.A monotonic increase was observed in the temperature dependence of elastic constants C_L=(C_(11)+2C_(12)+4C_(44))/3 and C_(T)=(C_(11)-C_(12)+C_(44))/3 in the temperature range around T_(s) to which an elastic softening was observed in(C_(11)-C_(12))/2 for PrRu_(2)Zn_(20).The disappearance of the softening indicates that the structural transition in PrRu_(2)Zn_(20) is suppressed by the substitution of Zn ions by In ones with a larger ionic ***,the C_(T) of PrRu_(2)In_(2)Zn_(18) exhibits a precursor Curie-type elastic softening toward low temperatures being responsible for the non-Kramers Γ_(3) ground *** discuss the ground state and the evolution of the elastic properties of the different single-crystal samples of PrRu_(2)In_(2)Zn_(18) grown under different conditions.

A preliminary study on the effects of line and selective thinning on bird communities in Hokkaido, northern Japan

In Japan, selective thinning is a common thinning method, though line thinning receives much attention because of its economic merits. In this study, we examined effects of the two thinning methods on bird communities in Todo fir （Abies sachalinensis） plantations in Hok- kaido, Japan. We surveyed bird species in forests under four different management types - unthinned, selectively thinned, line-thinned planta- tion, and naturally regenerated forest （here after referred to as natural forest） stands - using a line-transect method. We also investigated vege- tation structure （canopy tree and understory） of these stands. Bird species richness did not differ between natural forests and plantations, while bird total abundance was greater in plantations than in natural forests. Bird species richness and total abundance were comparable among the three management types for plantations. Abundances of 10 bird species were different among the four management types, and five species were more abundant in line-thinned plantations. However, two species were more abundant in selectively thinned stands than in line-thinned stands, and they frequently appeared in natural forests. There were no distinct differ- ences in vegetation structure among the management types for planta- tions. Our results suggest that line thinning could be beneficial for some bird species in plantations.

Two-dimensional self-assembly of melem at pH-controlled aqueous solution-Au（111） interfaces has been investigated by electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy. In the solutions with pH 〉 pKbl of melem, two ordered self-assembled structures （honeycomb and close-packed structures） and one disordered fibrillar structure were observed as a function of the surface coverage ofmelem controlled by the electrode potential. In contrast, in the acidic solution with pH 〈 pKbl of melem, only the self-assembled honeycomb network was observed in a relatively wide potential range probably due to the presence of monoprotonated melem cations. Dots attrib- uted to counteranions were frequently observed in the pores of the honeycomb network. The lack of close-packed and fibrillar structures at low pH （〈 pKbl） is attributed to ionic repulsion of melemium cations.

The hallmarks of spondyloarthritis(spA)are type 3 immunity-driven inflammation and new bone formation(NBF).Macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF)was found to be a key driver of the pathogenesis of spA by amplifying type 3 immunity,yet MIF-interacting molecules and networks remain ***,we identified hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha(HIF1A)as an interacting partner molecule of MIF that drives spA pathologies,including inflammation and ***1A expression was increased in the joint tissues and synovial fluid of spA patients and curdlan-injected sKG(curdlan-sKG)mice compared to the respective *** hypoxic conditions in which HIF1A was stabilized,human and mouse neutrophils exhibited substantially increased expression of MIF and IL-23,an upstream type 3 immunity-related *** to MIF,systemic overexpression of IL-23 induced spA pathology in sKG mice,while the injection of a HIF1A-selective inhibitor(PX-478)into curdlan-sKG mice prevented or attenuated spA pathology,as indicated by a marked reduction in the expression of MIF and ***,genetic deletion of MIF or HIF1A inhibition with PX-478 in IL-23-overexpressing sKG mice did not induce evident arthritis or NBF,despite the presence of psoriasis-like dermatitis and *** also found that MIF-and IL-23-expressing neutrophils infiltrated areas of the NBF in curdlan-sKG *** neutrophils potentially increased chondrogenesis and cell proliferation via the upregulation of sTAT3 in periosteal cells and ligamental cells during endochondral ***,these results provide supporting evidence for an MIF/HIF1A regulatory network,and inhibition of HIF1A may be a novel therapeutic approach for spA by suppressing type 3 immunity-mediated inflammation and NBF.

To quantify fluorescence imaging of biological tissues,we need to solve an inverse problem for the coupled radiative transfer equations which describe the excitation and emission fields in biological *** begin by giving a concise mathematical argument to derive coupled diffusion equations with the Robin boundary condition as an approximation of the radiative transfer *** by using this coupled system of equations as a model for the fluorescence imaging,we have a nonlinear inverse problem to identify the absorption coefficient in this *** associated linearized inverse problem is to ignore the absorbing effect on the excitation *** firstly establish the estimates of errors on the excitation field and the solution to the inverse problem,which ensures the reasonability of the model approximation *** numerical verification is presented to show the validity of such a linearizing process ***,based on the analytic expressions of excitation and emission fields,the identifiability of the absorption coefficient from the linearized inverse problem is rigorously analyzed for the absorption coefficient in the special form,revealing the physical difficulty of the3-dimensional imaging model by the back scattering diffusive system.

Using one material system from the near infrared into the ultraviolet is an attractive goal,and may be achieved with(ln,AI,Ga)***Ⅲ-N material system,famous for enabling blue and white solid-state lighting,has been pushing towards longer wavelengths in more recent *** a bandgap of about 0.7 eV,InN can emit light in the near infrared,potentially overlapping with the part of the electromagnetic spectrum currently dominated byⅢ-As andⅢ-P *** has been the case in these otherⅢ-V material systems,nanostructures such as quantum dots and quantum dashes provide additional benefits towards optoelectronic *** the case of InN,these nanostructures have been in the development stage for some time,with more recent developments allowing for InN quantum dots and dashes to be incorporated into larger device *** review will detail the current state of metalorganic chemical vapor deposition of InN nanostructures,focusing on how precursor choices,crystallographic orientation,and other growth parameters affect the *** optical properties of InN nanostructures will also be assessed,with an eye towards the fabrication of optoelectronic devices such as light-emitting diodes,laser diodes,and photodetectors.

We describe the reaction mechanism and active sites for CO oxidation over a Au/TiO2（110） model surface and Au single‐crystal surfaces, along with the role of H2O, on a molecular scale. At low tem‐perature （＆lt;320 K）, H2O played an essential role in promoting CO oxidation, and the active site for CO oxidation was the perimeter of the interface between the gold nanoparticles and the TiO2 sup‐port （Auδ＋–Oδ––Ti）. We believe that the O–O bond was activated by the formation of OOH, which was produced directly from O2 and H2O at the perimeter of the interface between the gold nanoparticles and the TiO2 support, and consequently OOH reacted with CO to form CO2. This reaction mechanism explains the dependence of the CO2 formation rate on O2 pressure at 300 K. In contrast, at high temperature （＆gt;320 K）, low‐coordinated gold atoms built up on the surface as a result of surface reconstruction due to exposure to CO. The low‐coordinated gold atoms adsorbed O2, which then dissociated and oxidized CO on the metallic gold surface.

An extended Fibonacci sequence associated with the discrete hungry Lotka-Volterra system

The integrable hungry Lotka-Volterra （hLV） system stands for a prey-predator model in mathematical biology. The discrete-time hLV （dhLV） system is derived from a time discretization of the hLV system. The solution to the dhLV system is known to be represented by using the Casorati determinant. In this paper, we show that if the entries of the Casorati determinant become an extended Fibonacci sequence at the initial discrete time, then those are also an extended Fibonacci sequence at any discrete time. In other words, the extended Fibonacci sequence always appears in the entries of the Casorati determinant under the time evolution of the dhLV system with suitable initial setting. We also show that one of the dhLV variables converges to the ratio of two successive extended Fibonacci numbers as the discrete time goes to infinity.
