Tourist preferences for agricultural landscapes:a case study of terraced paddy fields in Noto Peninsula,Japan

Many agricultural landscapes have been formed through the interaction and co-evolution of nature and people, and represent the living landscapes shaped over time through intensive and continuous human cultivation. Terraced paddy fields are being re-evaluated to take into account the multiple functions they fill beyond only rice cultivation, particularly their contribution to the national biodiversity strategy of Japan. since the 1990 s, terraced paddy fields have been considered a representative cultural landscape of Japan and, at the same time, multi-stakeholder conservation activities have been conducted throughout Japan to reverse the increasing abandonment of terraces. shiroyone senmaida is an outstanding cultural landscape and a major tourist attraction in Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, which was designated through an initiative by the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage systems(GIAHs) pilot site in 2011. It is important to clarify tourist preference for terraced paddy field landscapes to contribute to future policy making toward improved agricultural landscape conservation. A key finding of this study is that tourists visiting toenjoy the agricultural landscape are also concerned on the sustainability of the farming methods and preferred to maintain the naturalness of the landscape. Respondents with higher educational levels and greater concern for the biological and traditional farming knowledge aspects of the rice terraces were also more inclined to favor sustainable farming practices. Tourists preferred to maintain the naturalness and rurality of the agricultural landscape, and indicated that construction of excessive tourist facilities would cause the landscape to deteriorate. It was suggested that the local community and surroundings, including rural settlements, hills, and forests, should also be conserved together with the scenic terrace.

We prove two new regularity criteria for the 3D incompressible Navier-stokes equations in a bounded domain. Our results also hold for the 3D Boussinesq system with zero heat conductivity.

The theory of generalized Besov-Morrey spaces and generalized Triebel-Lizorkin-Morrey spaces is developed. Generalized Morrey spaces, which Mizuhara and Nakai proposed, are equipped with a parameter and a function. The trace property is one of the main focuses of the present paper, which will clarify the role of the parameter of generalized Morrey spaces. The quarkonial decomposition is obtained as an application of the atomic decomposition. In the end, the relation between the function spaces dealt in the present paper and the foregoing researches is discussed.

Tumor-promoting inflammation and the avoidance of immune destruction are hallmarks of *** innate immune cells,such as neutrophils,monocytes,and macrophages,are critical mediators for sterile and nonsterile inflammation,persistent inflammation,such as that which occurs in cancer,is known to disturb normal *** disturbance leads to the generation of immunosuppressive myeloid cells,such as myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDsCs)and tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs).Due to their potent suppressive activities against effector lymphocytes and their abundance in the tumor microenvironment,immunosuppressive myeloid cells act as a major barrier to cancer ***,various therapeutic approaches directed toward immunosuppressive myeloid cells are actively being tested in preclinical and clinical *** include antiinflammatory agents,therapeutic blockade of the mobilization and survival of myeloid cells,and immunostimulatory *** recently,immune checkpoint molecules expressed on tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells have emerged as potential therapeutic targets to redirect these cells to eliminate tumor *** this review,we discuss the complex crosstalk between cancer-related inflammation and immunosuppressive myeloid cells and possible therapeutic strategies to harness antitumor immune responses.

The bone extracellular matrix(ECM) contains minerals deposited on highly crosslinked collagen fibrils and hundreds of noncollagenous proteins. some of these proteins are key to the regulation of bone formation and regeneration via signaling pathways,and play important regulatory and structural roles. However, the complete list of bone extracellular matrix proteins, their roles, and the extent of individual and cross-species variations have not been fully captured in both humans and model organisms. Here, we introduce the most comprehensive resource of bone extracellular matrix(ECM) proteins that can be used in research fields such as bone regeneration, osteoporosis, and mechanobiology. The Phylobone database(available at https://***) includes 255proteins potentially expressed in the bone extracellular matrix(ECM) of humans and 30 species of vertebrates. A bioinformatics pipeline was used to identify the evolutionary relationships of bone ECM proteins. The analysis facilitated the identification of potential model organisms to study the molecular mechanisms of bone regeneration. A network analysis showed high connectivity of bone ECM proteins. A total of 214 functional protein domains were identified, including collagen and the domains involved in bone formation and resorption. Information from public drug repositories was used to identify potential repurposing of existing drugs. The Phylobone database provides a platform to study bone regeneration and osteoporosis in light of(biological) evolution,and will substantially contribute to the identification of molecular mechanisms and drug targets.

Recent experiments identified Co_(3)sn_(2)s_(2) as the first magnetic Weyl semimetal(MWsM).Using first-principles calculation with a global optimization approach,we explore the structural stabilities and topological electronic properties of cobalt(Co)-based shandite and alloys,Co_(3)MM’X_(2)(M/M’=Ge,sn,Pb,X=s,se,Te),and identify stable structures with different Weyl *** a tight-binding model,for the first time,we reveal that the physical origin of the nodal lines of a Co-based shandite structure is the interlayer coupling between Co atoms in different Kagome layers,while the number of Weyl points and their types are mainly governed by the interaction between Co and the metal atoms,sn,Ge,and *** Co_(3)snPbs_(2) alloy exhibits two distinguished topological phases,depending on the relative positions of the sn and Pb atoms:a three-dimensional quantum anomalous Hall metal,and a MWsM phase with anomalous Hall conductivity(~1290Ω^(−1) cm^(−1))that is larger than that of Co_(2)sn_(2)s_(2).Our work reveals the physical mechanism of the origination of Weyl fermions in Co-based shandite structures and proposes topological quantum states with high thermal stability.
