The formation and control of a room-temperature magnetic order in two- dimensional （2D） materials is a challenging quest for the advent of innovative magnetic- and spintronic-based technologies. To date, edge magnetism in 2D materials has been experimentally observed in hydrogen （H）-terminated graphene nanoribbons （GNRs） and graphene nanomeshes （GNMs）, but the measured magnetization remains far too small to allow envisioning practical applications. Herein, we report experimental evidences of large room-temperature edge ferromagnetism （FM） obtained from oxygen （O）-terminated zigzag pore edges of few-layer black phosphorus （P） nanomeshes （BPNMs）. The magnetization values per unit area are -100 times larger than those reported for H-terminated GNMs, while the magnetism is absent for H-terminated BPNMs. The magnetization measurements and the first-principles simulations suggest that the origin of such a magnetic order could stem from ferromagnetic spin coupling between edge P with O atoms, resulting in a strong spin localization at the edge valence band, and from uniform oxidation of full pore edges over a large area and interlayer spin interaction. Our findings pave the way for realizing high-efficiency 2D flexible magnetic and spintronic devices without the use of rare magnetic elements.

Effect of surface treatment for aluminum foils on discharge properties of lithium-ion battery

Aluminum foils having thicknesses of 10-20 μm are commonly employed as current collectors for cathode electrodes in Li-ion batteries. The effects of the surface morphology of the foil on battery performance were investigated by using a foil with roughened surface by chemical etching and a plain foil with smooth surface on both sides. For high-conductivity LiCoO2 active materials with large particle size, there are no significant differences in battery performance between the two types of foils. But for low-conductivity LiFePO4 active materials with small particle size, high-rate discharge properties are significantly different. The possibility shows that optimizing both the surface morphology of the aluminum foil and particle size of active material leads to improvement of the battery performance.

To miniaturize a very low level dc current amplifier and to improve its output response speed, the switched capacitor negative feedback circuit (sCNF), instead of the conventionally used high-ohmage resistor, is presented in this paper. In our system, a switched capacitor filter (sCF) and an offset controller are also used to decrease vibrations and offset voltage at the output of the amplifier using sCNF. The theoretical output voltage of the very low level dc current amplifier using sCNF is obtained. The experimental results show that the unnecessary components of the amplifier’s output are much decreased, and that the response speed of the amplifier with both the sCNF and sCF is faster than that using high-ohmage resistor.

Effects of Curing Conditions and Formulations on Residual Monomer Contents and Temperature Increase of a Model UV Gel Nail Formulation

Recently, the application of ultraviolet (UV) curable monomers to human nails, (also known as UV gel nails) has become a popular decoration technique for women’s nails. However, the unreacted layer, the depletion of residual monomers from the cured UV gel nails, which can cause allergy and asthma, and the increase in temperature during curing process, are major concerns. In this study, the thickness of the unreacted layer, the increase in temperature, and the residual contents in cured film of UV gel nail treatment were measured for the first time. The results of this study indicated that the thickness of unreacted layer was not affected by the cast thickness;however, the intensity of UV light and the photoinitiator concentration had significant effect on the thickness of the unreacted layer. To reduce the thickness of the unreacted layer, the intensity of the UV light and the photoinitiator concentration should be increased. However, the maximum temperature observed during the curing of UV gel nails increases with an increase in the intensity of the UV light and the photoinitiator concentration. A suitable cast thickness range (21 ~ 150 μm), which resulted in the formation of a cured film and without producing temperatures that exceed that of the human body, was identified. The mass fraction of the residuals in the cured layer decreased with an increase in the exposure time, the UV intensity, and the photoinitiator concentration.

We discuss the fact that there is a crucial contradiction within Von Neumann’s theory. We derive a proposition concerning a quantum expected value under an assumption of the existence of the orientation of reference frames in N spin-1/2 systems (1 ≤ N to a new constant . It may be said that a new type of the quantum theory early approaches Newton’s theory in the macroscopic scale than the old quantum theory does. We discuss how our solution is used in an implementation of Deutsch’s algorithm.

A quantum chemistry study of the first singlet(s_(1))and triplet(T_(1))excited states of phenylsulfonyl-carbazole compounds,proposed as useful thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF)emitters for organic light emitting diode(OLED)applications,was performed with the quantum Equation-Of-Motion Variational Quantum Eigensolver(qEOM-VQE)and Variational Quantum Deflation(VQD)algorithms on quantum simulators and *** quantum simulations were performed with double zeta quality basis sets on an active space comprising the highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals(HOMO,LUMO)of the TADF *** differences in energy separations between s_(1) and T_(1)(ΔEsT)predicted by calculations on quantum simulators were found to be in excellent agreement with experimental *** of 17 and 88 mHa with respect to exact energies were found for excited states by using the qEOM-VQE and VQD algorithms,respectively,to perform simulations on quantum devices without error *** utilizing state tomography to purify the quantum states and correct energy values,the large errors found for unmitigated results could be improved to differences of,at most,4 mHa with respect to exact ***,excellent agreement could be found between values ofΔEsT predicted by quantum simulations and those found in experiments.

Crystalline ErCl_(3) nanowires have been fabricated in single-walled carbon nanotubes(sWCNTs)with high yield(~90%),and the structural and magnetic properties of the resulting ErCl_(3) nanowires encapsulated in sWCNTs(ErCl_(3)@sWCNTs)*** under high temperature and vacuum using high quality sWCNTs results in a high fi lling-ratio of ErCl_(3) nanowires in the *** high fi lling-ratio of ErCl_(3) nanowires and the use of highly pure sWCNTs with only a small amount of residual Fe catalyst nanoparticles enabled us to observe the magnetic properties of ErCl_(3)@*** determination based on simulated annealing calculations and high-resolution transmission electron microscope(HRTEM)image simulations revealed that the structure of the ErCl_(3) nanowires is unusual with respect to the coordination environment of the Eu3+*** work opens up new possibilities to fabricate various metal complex nanowires with high yield and may also be of more general importance in understanding and exploring magnetic properties in low-dimensional magnetic systems.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a slowly progressive neurodegenerative disorder with motor and non-motorsigns, which begins long before the diagnosis can be made. Pharmacotherapy with dopaminergic drugsis the mainstay of PD therapy. There is no currently available cure or disease-modifying treatment. Dietand various foods have been proposed as possible risk factors for PD. Nutritional supplementation withomega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, B vitamins, and coenzyme Q may have potential in the management ofPD. In addition, several strategies could possibly lead to the development of medical foods in PD. Forexample, ketogenic diets may have effects complementary to pharmacotherapy. Gut microbial dysbiosisand altered microbial metabolites found in PD may lead to chronic low-grade inflammation in gut andbrain. Interventions targeting gut microbiota, such as the supplementation of probiotics, may providenovel approaches to PD in regard to both symptomatic treatment and disease modification. High qualityrandomized controlled trials need to be conducted in order to evaluate whether these food-basedstrategies have symptomatic efficacy or the potential to delay the progression of PD.

Clinical utility of a new endoscopic scoring system for Crohn's disease

AIM:To evaluate the clinical value of the newly modified simple Endoscopic score for Crohn's disease(m sEs-CD).METHODs:seventy-six Crohn's disease(CD) patients who underwent transanal double balloon endoscopy(DBE) in our hospital between 2003 and 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. DBE is defined as small intestinal endoscopy using two attached balloons. We included patients with stenosis which hampered passage of the scope and those who underwent DBE with observation for at least 80 cm from the ileocecal valve. Our new m sEs-CD assesses the endoscopic activity of two consecutive small intestinal segments located 0-40 cm and 40-80 cm from the ileocecal valve by DBE,in addition to the activity of four colorectal segments. To compare the usefulness of m sEs-CD with sEs-CD,we similarly divided the patients into two groups according to total m sEs-CD score(low disease activity group,sease activity group,≥ 4). The clinical value of m sEs-CD in predicting clinical outcome in patients with CD was evaluated using the occurrence of surgery after DBE as an ***:Median age of the 76 CD patients was 36 years(range,16-71). Thirty-nine patients had stenosis which hampered passage of the DBE to 80 cm on the proximal side from the ileocecal valve. Median evaluable length of small intestine by DBE was 80 cm(range,3-200). A total of 74 patients had one or more small intestinal lesions detected by DBE,of which 62(83.8%) were within 80 cm of the ileocecal valve on the proximal side. Only two patients(2.7%) with proximal-side lesions more than 80 cm from the ileocecal valve did not have lesions within 80 cm. Patients with high m sEs-CD scores showed significantly shorter surgeryfree survival than those with low scores(P st,surgery-free survival did not significantly differ between the low and high sEs-CD groups(P > 0.05).
