shoulder disarticulation amputees account for a small portion of upper-limb amputees,thus little emphasis has been devoted to developing functional prosthesis for this cohort of *** this study,shoulder girdle recognition was investigated with acquired data from electrophysiological(electromyography[EMG])and low frequency contraction(accelerometer[Acc])signals from both amputee and non-amputee *** contribution of this study is based around the contrast of the classification accuracy(CA)for different sensor configurations using a unique set of signal *** was seen that the fusion of the EMG-Acc produced an enhancement in the CA in the range of 10%-20%,depending on which windowing parameters were *** this,it was seen that the best combination of a windowing scheme and classifier would likely be for the 350 ms and spectral regression discriminant analysis,with a fusion of the EMG-Acc *** results have thus provided evidence that the two sensors can be combined and used in practice for prosthesis *** a holistic view on the study,the authors conclude by providing a framework on how the shoulder motion recognition could be combined with neuromuscular reprogramming to contribute towards easing the cognitive burden of amputees during the prosthesis control process.

Two catalysts, alumina and manganese oxide supported on alumina, have been prepared by calcination and precipitation-impregnation methods, respectively. The catalysts are characterised by the following techniques： Brunner-Emmett-Teller-N2 adsorption-desorption for sur- face area, temperature programmed desorption of Nh3 and n-butyl amine back titration methods for surface acidity, powder X-ray diffraction for textural properties, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for the anionic radicals. The catalytic activity has been determined under heterogeneous conditions in the condensation reaction between o-phenylenediamine and benzil. The product purity is checked by thin-layer chromatography and melting point. The products are also analysed by LC-Ms and 1h-NMR techniques. The yields of the products have been found to be good and catalysts exhibited excellent recyclability. The effect of changing the reaction para- meters such as temperature, reaction time, amount of the catalyst, nature of solvent and molar ratio of reactants on the yield of the product has been studied. The surface acidity of the catalysts plays an important role in activating the reaction.

The building sector and its heating and cooling represents one of the major consumer of energy worldwide. simultaneously, the share of fluctuating generation of renewable energies in the energy mix increases. Therefore storage and demand side management technologies are required. The new adaptive and predictive control algorithm for thermally activated building systems （TABs） based on multiple linear regression （AMLR） presented in this paper enables the application of demand side management （DsM） strategies. Based on simulations, different strategies have been compared with each other. By applying the AMLR algorithm, electricity energy cost savings of 38% could be achieved compared to the conventional control strategy for TABs, while increasing the thermal comfort. At the same time, thermal energy demand can be reduced in the range between 4% to 8%, and pump operation time from 86% to 89%.

The introduction of serum prostate-specific antigen （PsA） in the 1980s has dramatically altered and benefited the initial diagnosis of prostate cancer. however, the widespread use of PsA testing has resulted in overdetection and overtreatment of potentially indolent disease. Thus, a clinical dilemma today in the management of prostate cancer is to discern men with aggressive disease who need definitive treatment from men whose disease are not lethal. Although several serum and tissue biomarkers have been evaluated during the past decade, improved markers are still needed to enhance the accuracy, with which patients at risk can be discerned and treated more aggressively. The cancer/testis antigens （CTAs） are a group of proteins that are restricted to the testis in the normal adult, but are aberrantly expressed in several types of cancers. Because of their restricted expression pattern, the CTAs represent attractive biomarker candidates for cancer diagnosis/prognosis. Furthermore, several studies to date have reported the differential expression of CTAs in prostate cancer. here, we review recent developments that demonstrate the potential of the CTAs as biomarkers to discern the a^ressive Dhenotvoe of orostate cancer.

Trace element characteristics of partial melts produced by melting of metabasalts at high pressures: Constraints on the formation condition of adakitic melts

Experiments were conducted on a natural basalt (with 5 wt.% added h2O) at 1.0―2.5 GPa and 900―1100℃. Experimental products include partial melts (quenched glasses) + residual mineral assemblages of amphibolite or eclogite. Electron microprobe and LAM-ICP-Ms were used to determine major and trace element compositions of these quenched melts, respectively. Major ele- ment compositions of all the melts are tonalitic- trondhjemitic, similar to adakite. Their trace element characteristics are controlled by coexisting residual minerals. signatures of adakite such as high sr/Y, low hREE and negative Nb-Ta anomaly, etc. are present only in the melts coexisting with residual assemblages containing rutile and garnet (rutile-bearing eclogite or rutile-bearing amphibole-eclogite). Garnet leads to hREE depletion in melts, whereas rutile controls Nb and Ta partitioning during the partial melting and causes negative Nb-Ta anomaly in melts. Therefore, in addition to garnet, rutile is also a necessary residual phase during the generation of adakite or TTG magmas to account for the negative Nb-Ta anomaly of the magmas. The depth for the generation of adakite/TTG magmas via melting of metabasalt must be more than about 50 km based on the approximate 1.5 GPa mini- mum-pressure for rutile stability in the partial melting field of hydrous basalt.

A transmission electron microscopy （TEM） investigation has been performed on the dislocation pinning in Lie-ordered Ni3（Al, Ti） containing disordered γ *** morphology of deformation induced dislocations in the γ base alloys containing fine dispersion of disordered γ was investigated by means of weak-beam electron microscopy. The superdislocations are strongly attracted to the disordered particles and dissociate on the （111） plane in the γ particles, while they dissociate on the （010） plane in the γ＇ matrix. The disordered γ precipitates play an important role as a pinning point during the cross-slip of superdislocations from （111） to （010） planes in the γ matrix and restrain the cross-slip of superdislocations. The interaction of superdislocations with disordered particles causes the formation of superkinks, jogs and closed loops.

A short-Range Quantitative Precipitation Forecast Algorithm Using Back-Propagation Neural Network Approach

A back-propagation neural network （BPNN） was used to establish relationships between the shortrange （0-3-h） rainfall and the predictors ranging from extrapolative forecasts of radar reflectivity, satelliteestimated cloud-top temperature, lightning strike rates, and Nested Grid Model （NGM） outputs. Quan- titative precipitation forecasts （QPF） and the probabilities of categorical precipitation were obtained. Results of the BPNN algorithm were compared to the results obtained from the multiple linear regression algorithm for an independent dataset from the 1999 warm season over the continental United states. A sample forecast was made over the southeastern United states. Results showed that the BPNN categorical rainfall forecasts agreed well with stage Ⅲ observations in terms of the size and shape of the area of rainfall. The BPNN tended to over-forecast the spatial extent of heavier rainfall amounts, but the positioning of the areas with rainfall ≥25.4 mm was still generally accurate. It appeared that the BPNN and linear regression approaches produce forecasts of very similar quality, although in some respects BPNN slightly outperformed the regression.

The characterization of electrical property of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on a nanometer scale is essential for their potential application in nano-electronic devices. The MWCNTs were synthesized on Fe2O3/siO2/si substrate and Pt plate substrate by simple thermal chemical vapor deposition (sTCVD) technique and the electrical measurements of individual MWCNT grown on silicon substrate and Pt plate substrate were performed by home-made 'nano-manipulator', respectively. According to current-voltage curves obtained in the experiments the current density that the MWCNTs can carry is calculated to be about 107 A/cm2, which is much larger than that of normal metals.

Analysis is carried for the problem of boundary layer steady flow and heat transfer of a micropolar fluid containing nanoparticles over a vertical *** governing partial differential equations of linear momentum,angular momentum,heat transfer and nano concentration are reduced to nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations by applying the boundary layer approximations and a suitable similarity *** nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations,subject to the appropriate boundary conditions,are then solved by using the homotopy analysis *** effects of the physical parameters on the flow,heat transfer and nanoparticle concentration characteristics of the model are presented through graphs and the salient features are discussed.
