Bringing Norwegian mine into world of bits and bytes——possibilities and pitfalls

Rana Gruber As is a mining company situated in northern Norway, just south of the artic circle. The hematite/magnetite ore is low grade, steeply dipping and intensively folded. The company excavates about 1.2 million tonnes of ore annually. The mining method is sublevel stoping. The final products are a hematite concentrate and different magnetite-products. The bits and bytes based methods and systems implemented for production planning and controlling are presented in the paper. Focus is on geological modelling, utilisation of variations in the deposit and associated uncertainty accumulating throughout the value chain. The methods and systems enable the mining department in greater extent than before, to deliver fragmented ore according to the specifications given by the processing plant.

THE Kuranakh gold deposit is located in the Aldan shield, in the southern portion of siberian ***-horizontal, blanket-or ribbon-like ore bodies up to 50 m thick occur along and above the contact between Cambrian calcareous footwall rocks and overlaying Jurassic clastic rocks within a narrow zone, about30 km long, bounded by several south-north trending faults. To date the deposit is estimated to have produced more than 200 tonnes of gold at an average grade of 3.57 g/t Au extending over 41 years of production. Cambrian rock is predominantly composed of limestone and dolomite. The limestone contains a smallamount (1%-3%) of clastic material. The limestone is thin-bedded, platy, fractured, brecciated,cavernous, and porous. Its composition varies from pure limestone to spotted-banded dolomitic limestoneor "zebra" rock. Anaerobic digestion technology provides a new approach to treat organic waste while generating span>greenhouse gas (GHG) savings. Moreover, the methane gas produced during the process can be used to generate electricity. In order to ensure that Australia stays on its trajectory towards a carbon neutral future, the use of anaerobic digestion technology to treat its abundant organic waste streams should be consideredspan>. Thirty million tonnes (Mt) of organic waste was produced in 2017. The use of anaerobic digestion to treat 1 tonne of waste could result in 0.143 tonne of COsub>2sub>-e in GHG savingspan>s. Technical Profile on the Production of Pozzolana (An Emerging Construction Material) in Nigeria

Pozzolana which is an eco-friendly and cheap supplementary cementious material has not been established on a commercial scale in the construction industry in Nigeria. Hence, this paper is aimed at presenting a feasibility study to show the viability and highlight the business opportunities available for local and foreign investors in the area of pozzolana production in Nigeria. The paper discussed the technical requirements and estimated start-up capital for setting up a Pozzolana production plant from calcinated of Fifteen Thousand tonnes Annual Production Capacity. An outline for start-up capital identified building and civil work, furniture and fixtures, machinery and equipment requirement, intangible assets, and seed fund. Raw materials/utilities and organizational requirement for annual production were also presented. The investment is viable with a total investment cost of $507,321.23, annual net profit of $107,961.70 and a payback period of 4.7 years. The net profit ratio and rate of return are 16.28% and 21.28% respectively. The findings and understanding of the technical and financial requirements from this work will aid investors in making decisions. The project if carried out will reduce cement contents in concrete and mortar structures, with eco-friendly cement admixtures and subsequently reduce the cost of construction in general.

Environmental Exposure to Glyphosate and Reproductive Health Impacts in Agricultural Population of Argentina

Argentina annually utilizes 240,000 tones of glyphosate in industrial agriculture and a change in the profile of morbidity is perceived for physicians of agricultural areas;now reproductive disorders seem to prevail. The objective of this study is to determine concurrence of glyphosate exposure and reproductive disorders in a typical argentine agricultural town (Monte Maíz). An ecological study was developed with an environmental analysis of pollution sources including measurements of glyphosate and other pesticides and a cross-sectional study of spontaneous abortions and congenital abnormalities prevalence. Glyphosate was detected in soil and grain dust and was found to be at an even higher concentration in the village soil than in the rural area;650 tonnes of glyphosate are used annually in the region and manipulated inner town contaminating the soil and dust in suspension of the town creating an burden of environmental exposure to glyphosate of 79 kg per person per year. We do not find other relevant sources of pollution. The spontaneous abortion and congenital abnormalities rates are three and two times higher than the national average reported by the national health (10% vs. 3% and 3% - 4.3% vs 1.4% respectively). Our study verified high environmental exposure to glyphosate in association with increased frequencies of reproductive disorders (spontaneous abortion and congenital abnormalities) in argentine agricultural village, but is unable to make assertions cause-effect. Further studies are required with designs for such purposes.

本文主要研究了肯尼亚姆瓦彻湾(属于浅潮滩红树林湿地)泥沙交换的动力机制。该港湾属于半日潮,大、小潮的潮差分别为3.2m和1.4m,大潮高水位的水面面积为17km^2。锋水区主河道以落潮流为主,而回水区主河道则受涨潮流控制。在雨季,河水和陆源泥沙经由季节性的姆瓦彻河输送到湾内。在1997～1998年厄尔尼诺期间,由于陆源泥沙的大量输送,引起泥沙在湿地大量淤积(106t),对上游地区的红树林造成大量的破坏。在本文中,利用设在主河道和红树林内的观测站测得的海平面、潮流量、潮流速、盐度、总悬浮泥沙浓度(TssC)和颗粒有机沉积物浓度(POsC)等资料,确定主水道的锋水区与回水区,也包括与红树林之间的泥沙交换动力机制。结果表明:在洪水期,河流的高悬浮泥沙含量和河床细颗粒泥沙的潮汐再悬浮,导致高浑浊度水流入退化红树林区。尽管红树林在退化,但从中输出的泥沙量远小于输入量,因此,造成湿地泥沙淤积。在洪枯季的大潮期和洪季的小潮期,以泥沙的净输入为主。但是,与植被覆盖度高的红树林湿地相比,普遍退化的姆瓦彻湾红树林湿地的拦沙率是低的。高度退化的回水区红树林拦沙率平均为30%,中等退化的锋水区红树林为65%。
