Back-to-Front Ordering of Triangles in digital Terrain Models over Regular Grids

Visiting triangles that conform a digital terrain model is a core operation in a number of fields like animationand video games or generating profiles, cross-sections, and contours in civil engineering. Perfornfing the visit in an efficientmanner is an issue specially when the output of the traversal depends in some way on additional parameters or informationchanging over time, for example, a moving point of view. In this work we report a set of rules that, given a digital terrainmodel defined over a regular grid and an arbitrary point of view outside the terrain, define a total back-to-front order in theset of digital terrain model triangles with respect to the point. The set of rules is minimal, complete and correct. To assesshow the rules perform, we have implemented a CPU-based algorithm for realistically rendering height fields defined overregular grids. The algorithm does not make use of the z-buffer or shaders featured by our graphics card. We show how ouralgorithm is implemented and show visual results obtained from synthetic and real data. We further discuss the algorithmperformance with respect to two algorithms： a naive algorithm that visits triangles according to grid indices and does notsolve the hidden line problem, and the z-buffer provided by the graphics card featured by our computer. Our algorithmallows real-time interaction when the point of view arbitrarily moves in 3d space and we show that its performance is asgood as that of the z-buffer graphics card.

Effects of A Top siO2 surface Layer on Cavity Formation and Helium desorption in silicon

Cz n-type si (100) samples with and without a top siO2 layer were implanted with 40 keV helium ions at the same dose of 5×1016 cm-2. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM) and thermal desorption spectroscopy (THds) were used to study the thermal evolution of cavities upon and helium thermal release, respectively. XTEM results show that the presence of the top siO2 layer could suppress the thermal growth of cavities mainly formed in the region close to the siO2/si interface, which leads to the reduction in both the cavity band and cavity density. THds results reveal that the top oxide layer could act as an effective barrier for the migration of helium atoms to the surface, and it thus gives rise to the formation of more overpresurrized bubbles and to the occurrence of a third release peak located at about 1100 K. The results were qualitively discussed by considering the role of the oxide surface layer in defect migration and evolution upon annealing.

Three-dimensional flow of Oldroyd-B fluid over surface with convective boundary conditions

The present study addresses the three-dimensional flow of an Oldroyd-B fluid over a stretching surface with convective boundary conditions. The problem formulation is presented using the conservation laws of mass, momentum, and energy. The solutions to the dimensionless problems are computed. The convergence of series solutions by the homotopy analysis method （HAM） is discussed graphically and numerically. The graphs are plotted for various parameters of the temperature profile. The series solutions are verified by providing a comparison in a limiting case. The numerical values of the local Nusselt number are analyzed.

The present study compared eight breeds of cattle differing in gender （heifers, buls and steers） to determine associations between muscle characteristics and meat sensory qualities of theLongissimus thoracis muscle. Animal types differed in al the muscle characteristics and sensory qualities. Many correlations among muscle characteristics and among sensory qualities were consistent for most animal types. Isocitrate dehydrogenase （ICdH） activities alowed discrimination of muscles with respect to myosin heavy chain （MyHC）-I proportions for al animal types. Lactate dehydrogenase （LdH） and phos-phofructokinase （PFK） activities were positively correlated for most animal types. Overal liking was correlated with beef lfavour and abnormal lfavour in al animal types and with global tenderness for al animal types except for Charolais cross breed steers. For al animal types except for Angus×Friesian heifers, beef lfavour and abnormal lfavour were negatively correlated. Overal liking was not correlated with juiciness. PFK, ICdH and citrate synthase （Cs） activities were strongly associated with tenderness, beef lfavour and overal liking when average values for al animal types were used. However, associations between muscle characteristics and sensory qualities within animal types were weak and inconsistent.

Quantum-orbit theory of low-energy above-threshold ionization on and off axis

Intense-laser-induced above-threshold ionization of a bound electron into continuum states with low energy is investigated in the context of the strong-field approximation that allows for one act of rescattering of the re- visiting electron. The quantum orbits for forward and backward scattering are evaluated and generalized to arbitrary scattering angles. The velocity map of the liberated electron exhibits the well-known low-energy structure as well as other features off the polarization axis.

New Primers for denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis Analysis of Nitrate-Reducing Bacterial Community in soil

The narG gene is frequently used as a molecular marker for bacterial nitrate-reducing community analysis. In this study, a new set of primers targeting the narG gene was designed and applied to semi-nested polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis （PCR-dGGE） assay. The potential of the new primers was verified on dNA directly extracted from soils from five different experimental sites distributed in Central and southern Italy. specificity of the primers was determined by excision, amplification, and sequencing of bands resolved by dGGE. A phylogenetic analysis showed the correlation between the sequences retrieved from the soils studied and the narG sequences from βand y-Proteobacteria. These primers expanded the existing molecular tools for ecological study on the size and diversity of nitrate-reducing bacterial community in soil.

Experimental Investigations of the Three-dimensionalFlow in a Large deflection Turbine Cascade with Tip Clearance

Results obtained from an experbontal study of the threedimensional flow survey within and exit of a large defiection linear turbine cascade are presented for a tip clearance levels of 0.08, 1.5, 3.0 percent of chord and compared with the help of boundary layer probes and that within and exit of a blade passage was done with a miniaturised five hole probe. End wall and blade tip surface static pressures were also obtained, in addition to flow visualisation studies. A strong horse-shoe vortex forms in front of the leading edge for zero clearance whereas this vortex does not appear for 3 percent clearance indicating that for large clearance the pressure forces have dominating infiuence than the viscous forces. In addition to normally known clearance vortex, a small tip separation vortex was noticed on the blade tip surface inside the tip gap. due to the area contraction caused by the tip separation vortex, the fluid movign towards the tip gap from the pressure side is accelerated. downstream of the vortex, the endwall pressure increases due to flow mixing. Both vortices increase in size and strength along the chord. The miring is incomplete in the aft portion of the blade. The tip gap velocity profiles exhibit wak like characteristics especially at axial positions where the mixing is incomplete. The passage vortex in the present investigations did not diminish with increase in clearance. The discharge coefhcient and the total pressure loss coefficient within the tip gap show similar tendency with lower values near the leading and trailing edge regions.

Magnetic fields are well known to affect the evolution of fluids via the J3B force,where J is the current density and B is the magnetic *** force leads to the influence of magnetic fields on hydrodynamics(magnetohydrodynamics).Magnetic fields are often neglected in modeling of high-energy-density plasmas,since J 3 B is very small compared with the plasma pressure ***,many experiments lie in a separate part of parameter space where the plasma is indirectly affected via magnetization of the heat flux and charged particle *** is true even for initially unmagnetized plasmas,since misaligned density and temperature gradients can self-generate magnetic *** comparing terms in the induction equation,we go on to estimate the regions of parameter space where these self-generated fields are strong enough to affect the hydrodynamics.
