Ecology of Pinnidae(Mollusca: Bivalvia) from the Gulf of Thailand

The ecology of the family Pinnidae was studied by sampling three pinnid species from 36 sampling sites across four different microhabitats in the Gulf of Thailand. The species spatial distributions were mostly uniform, with some populations having random distributions. species abundances differed between sandy and coral habitats according to non-metric multi-dimension scaling analyses. Although the Gulf of Thailand is a relatively small geographic area, habitats are varied enough to provide variable shell densities. small islands are important distribution areas, and coral reefs provide both direct and indirect shelter which support high abundances,densities and increased shell size. The highest density was recorded in sand beds within coral reefs. Low density and small shell size in sand beaches might be related to high mortality in shallow water or to adaptations for survival in shallow waters. A clear correlation between sediment composition and species abundance was found in Pinna atropurpurea; abundance increased with the sand content of the sediment. For P. deltodes, abundance increased as the rock fraction of the sediment increased. These results suggest that adaptations in Pinnidae, such as shell size, shell morphology, and the exposure of the shell above the sediment-water interface, are responses for survival in different habitats.

The standard adjuvant treatment of colon cancer is fluorouracil plus leucovorin. Oxaliplatin improves the efficacy of this combination in patients with stage 111 colon cancer and moreover its toxicity is well tolerable. We describe a rare clinical case of acute dyspnoea probably related to oxaliplatin at one month from the end of the adjuvant treatment. A 74-year-old man developed a locally advanced sigmoid carcinoma （pT3N1M0）. A port a cath attached to an open-ended catheter was implanted in order to administer primary chemotherapy safely according to the FOLFOX4 schedule. One month following the end of the 6^th cycle, the patient referred a persistent cough and moderate dyspnoea. Chest radiography displayed a change in the lung interstitium, chest CT scan confirmed this aspect of adult respiratory distress syndrome, spirometry reported a decreased carbon monoxide diffusion capacity. Antibiotic and corticosteroids were administered for 10 d, then a repeated chest X ray evidenced a progressive pulmonary infiltration. A transbronehial biopsy and cytology did not show an infective process, a CT scan reported radiological abnormalities including linear and nodular densities which were becoming confluents. Antimicotic and antiviral drugs did not evidence any benefit. The antiviral therapy was stopped and high dose metilprednisolone was started. The patient died of pulmonary distress after 10 d.

Countries that have made the health transition from a communicable disease base to a non communicable disease base find themselves gripped in an epidemic of wealth created diseases mediated by altered macronutrient intakes, energy intakes and reduction in physical activity. Avoiding the negative impact of the nutrition transition while accepting the positive aspects of the wealth transition can best be achieved by focussing on publicising the benefits of a low fat diet in the context of an active lifestyle. How this is achieved should reflect ecologically sound food production appropriate to national needs. Countries that achieve this will be in the best position to capitalize on the reduction in communicable disease rates without causing a rise in non communicable disease rates.

In this paper, we examine the best time to sell a stock at a price being as close as possible to its highest price over a finite time horizon [0, T], where the stock price is modelled by a geometric Brownian motion and the ＇closeness＇ is measured by the relative error of the stock price to its highest price over [0, T]. More precisely, we want to optimize the expression：V^＊=sup 0≤τ≤T E[Vτ/MT],where （Vt）t≥0 is a geometric drownian motion with constant drift α and constant volatility σ 〉 0, Mt = max Vs 0≤a〈t is the running maximum of the stock price, and the supremum is taken over all possible stopping times 0 ≤ τ≤T adapted to the natural filtration （Ft）t≥0 of the stock price. The above problem has been considered by shiryacv, Xu and Zhou （2008） and du Toit and Peskir （2009）. In this paper we provide an independent proof that when α=1/ 2 σ^2 , a selling strategy is optimal if and only if it sells the stock either at the terminal time T or at the 1 2 moment when the stock price hits its maximum price so far. Besides, when α 〉1/2σ^2 , selling the stock at the terminal time T is the unique optimal selling strategy. Our approach to the problem is purely probabilistic and has been inspired by relating the notion of dominant stopping pr of a stopping time τ to the optimal stopping strategy arisen in the classical ＂secretary Problem＂.

sECI Model has been predominantly used by researchers as a framework for analyzing knowledge creation and knowledge sharing. It generalizes the application of the framework such that it is useable for various industries and disciplines such as in education, manufacturing, software development, finance, business and others. Its popularity has gained interest among re-searchers who explored the possibility to implement sECI model in computational environment. This paper presents the monolithic system that was designed and built to allow the sECI model activities to be performed in a full manner in a single platform. sECI model activities are studied and summarized to grasp the perceptions of the researchers of what are the activities that are classified under each sECI model phases. Based on these activities, we identified some selected activities to demonstrate the possibility of implementing the sECI Model in our KFTGA system. KFTGA (Knowledge Flow Tracer and Growth Analyzer) is a knowledge sharing platform that was built to support sECI Model activities.

Objective To study the metabolism of 14^C-deltamethrin in rats. Methods Rats were dosed orally and i.p. with a single dose of 14^C-deltamethrin （0.64 mg/Kg） body weight. The required dose was applied daily for 3 days. At the end of the experiment, selected organs, such as liver, kidney, fat, intestine, and blood were excised for radioassay of 14^C-content. Results deltamethrin was almost eliminated from the body within 1-3 days. The main portion of 14^C-residues was extracted from urine （38%, 32%） and feces （20%, 24%） with a little amount remained in various organs. Conclusion The elimination and distribution of 14^C-radioactivity in rats treated orally and intraperitoneally signify that deltamethrin is bioavallable in urine and feces.

The peristaltic flow of a Walter＇s B fluid in an endoscope is studied. The problem is modeled in a cylindrical coordinate system. The main theme of the present analysis is to study the endoscopic effects on the peristaltic flow of the Waiter＇s B fluid. To the best of the authors＇ knowledge, no investigation has been made so far in the literatures to study the Walter＇s B fluid in an endoscope. Analytical solutions axe obtained using the regular perturbation method by taking 5 as a perturbation parameter. The approximate analytical solutions for the pressure rise and friction forces are evaluated using numerical integration. The effects of emerging parameters of the Waiter＇s B fluid are presented graphically.

This paper describes the mitigation of harmonics in source and neutral current in three phase four wire system based on 4-leg shunt active power filter under balanced and unbalanced load conditions. Particle swarm Optimization (PsO) and conventional Proportional Integral (PI) controller are used as control techniques to analyze the control performance of 4-leg shunt active power filter. The synchronous reference frame (sRF) method is used to extract reference current in 4-leg shunt active filter. The Hysteresis Current Controller (HCC) is used to generate gate pulses for Voltage source Inverter (VsI) based 4-leg shunt active power filter. The proposed PsO technique gives less percentage of Total Harmonic distortion (THd) value in source and neutral current and settling time of the dC capacitor voltage compared to conventional PI controller technique. The model of the proposed system performance was validated using MATLAB/simulink environment.
