MXene has been the limelight for studies on electrode active materials,aiming at developing supercapacitors with boosted energy density to meet the emerging influx of wearable and portable electronic *** its various desirable properties including intrinsic flexibility,high specific surface area,excellent metallic conductivity and unique abundance of surface functionalities,its full potential for electrochemical performance is hindered by the notorious restacking phenomenon of MXene *** to its two-dimensional(2D)nature and surface functional groups,inevitable Van der Waals interactions drive the agglomeration of nanosheets,ultimately reducing the exposure of electrochemically active sites to the electrolyte,as well as severely lengthening electrolyte ion transport *** a result,energy and power density deteriorate,limiting the application versatility of MXene-based *** 3D architectures using 2D nanosheets presents as a straightforward yet ingenious approach to mitigate the fatal flaws of ***,the sheer number of distinct methodologies reported,thus far,calls for a systematic review that unravels the rationale behind such 3D MXene structural ***,this review aims to serve this purpose while also scrutinizing the structure–property relationship to correlate such structural modifications to their ensuing electrochemical performance ***,the physicochemical properties of MXene play fundamental roles in determining the effective charge storage capabilities of 3D MXene-based *** largely depends on different MXene synthesis techniques and synthesis condition variations,hence,elucidated in this review as ***,the challenges and perspectives for achieving viable commercialization of MXene-based supercapacitor electrodes are highlighted.

Identification of thermal front dynamics in the northern Malacca strait using ROMs 3D-model

The thermal front in the oceanic system is believed to have a significant effect on biological *** an era of climate change,changes in heat regulation between the atmosphere and oceanic interior can alter the characteristics of this important *** the simulation results of the 3D Regional Ocean Modelling system(ROMs),we identified the location of thermal fronts and determined their dynamic variability in the area between the southern Andaman sea and northern Malacca *** single Image Edge Detection(sIED)algorithm was used to detect the thermal front from model-derived *** show that a thermal front occurred every year from 2002 to 2012 with the temperature gradient at the location of the front was 0.3°C/*** to the years affected by El Ni?o and negative Indian Ocean Dipole(IOD),the normal years(e.g.,May 2003)show the presence of the thermal front at every selected depth(10,25,50,and 75 m),whereas El Ni?o and negative IOD during 2010 show the presence of the thermal front only at depth of 75 m due to greater warming,leading to the thermocline deepening and enhanced *** May 2003,the thermal front was separated by cooler ssT in the southern Andaman sea and warmer ssT in the northern Malacca *** higher ssT in the northern Malacca strait was believed due to the besieged Malacca strait,which trapped the heat and make it difficult to release while higher chlorophyll a in Malacca strait is due to the freshwater conduit from nearby rivers(Klang,Langat,Perak,and selangor).Furthermore,compared to the southern Andaman sea,the chlorophyll a in the northern Malacca strait is easier to reach the surface area due to the shallower thermocline,which allows nutrients in the area to reach the surface faster.

Ultrasound-assisted isolation:A new method to isolate stromal vascular fraction

Background:The stromal vascular fraction(sVF),a cluster of stem and progenitor cells isolated from adipose tissue,holds significant promise for application in regenerative ***,the existing methods for sVF isolation are time-consuming and ***,in this study,we explored a new method of sVF extrac-tion-ultrasound-assisted sVF isolation(UsAsI)-and compared the viability and characteristics of sVF isolated using different ***:sVF extraction methods using different combinations of ultrasound power,ultrasound time,collagenase dosage,and collagenase digestion time were compared with those of the control group(collagenase digestion method).The cell yield and vitality of the sVF were evaluated via cell counting and trypan blue *** cell components and immunophenotypes of freshly isolated sVF were analyzed using flow *** prolifer-ative capacity and differentiation potential of the sVF were also ***:Ultrasonication at 95 W-20 kHz for 30 s followed by digestion with 0.15%collagenase for 30 min was identified as the most suitable parameter for the UsAsI method in isolating sVF,as recommended based on the evaluation of various tested *** UsAsI method significantly reduced the collagenase dosage and shortened the digestion *** to the collagenase digestion method,the UsAsI method had a higher cell yield and cell viability,with no adverse effects on cell components,proliferative capacity,or multipotential differentiation ***:With reduced processing time,lower collagenase dosage,and increased cell yield without impairing the viability and characteristics of sVF,UsAsI holds the potential to emerge as a time-saving and cost-effective method for future clinical applications.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma treatment paradigm after HK0501–a potential way forward

The Hong Kong Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma(NPC)study Group 0501 trial(HK0501)is the first trial that directly compares induction(IC)versus adjuvant chemotherapy(AC)both given together with concurrent chemoradiation(CCRT)treatment,which long has been a contentious issue[1].Its most salient finding is that when adjusted for platinum doses and other significant factors,the timing of the chemotherapy sequence is not *** the era where chemotherapy is administered at maximum tolerated doses(MTD),the induction strategy has the advantage because of better *** the other hand,with the realization that there may be more ways to skin a cat,adjuvant metronomic chemotherapy has gained traction at the 2021 American society of Clinical Oncology(AsCO)meeting[2]and provides an alternative to the decades’old dogma of *** chemotherapy works by exerting an anti-angiogenic effect[3-6]and also has immune effects like removing regulatory T cells(Tregs)[7]and myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDsCs)from the tumour microenvironment[8]and causing dendritic cell maturation,which upregulates and primes the anti-tumor T cell immune response[9,10].Pediatricians are probably the first to successfully incorporate 2 years of maintenance metronomic chemotherapy in their childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia protocols[11]which now boast cure rates of over 90%[12].

Carcinogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma:an alternate hypothetical mechanism

Current proposed mechanisms implicate both early and latent Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)infection in the carcinogenic cascade,whereas epidemiological studies have always associated nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)with early childhood EBV infection and with chronic ear,nose,and sinus ***,most patients with NPC present with IgA antibody titers to EBV capsid antigen(VCA-lgA),which can precede actual tumor presentation by several *** early childhood EBV infection indeed constitutes a key event in NPC carcinogenesis,one would have to explain the inability to detect the virus in normal nasopharyngeal epithelium of patients at a high risk for EBV *** is perhaps possible that EBV resides within the salivary glands,instead of the epithelium,during *** claim is indirectly supported by observations that the East Asian phenotype shares the characteristics of an increased susceptibility to NPC and immature salivary gland morphogenesis,the latter of which is influenced by the association of salivary gland morphogenesis with an evolutionary variant of the human ectodysplasin receptor gene(EDAR),*** the immature salivary gland represents a more favorable nidus for EBV is uncertain,but in patients with infectious mononucleosis,EBV has been isolated in this anatomical *** presence of EBV-induced lymphoepitheliomas in the salivary glands and lungs further addresses the possibility of submucosal spread of the *** to the fact that the fossa of Rosen Muller contains a transformative zone active only in the first decade of life,one might be tempted to speculate the possibility of an alternative carcinogenic cascade for NPC that is perhaps not dissimilar to the model of human papillomavirus and cervical cancer.

Vertical axis wind turbine with omni-directional-guide-vane for urban high-rise buildings

A novel shrouded wind-solar hybrid renewable energy and rain water harvester with an omni-directional-guide-vane(ODGV) for urban high-rise application is *** ODGV surrounds the vertical axis wind turbine(VAWT) and enhances the VAWT performance by increasing the on-coming wind speed and guiding it to an optimum flow angle before it interacts with the rotor *** ODGV scaled model was built and tested in the *** experimental results show that the rotational speed of the VAWT increases by about 2 *** show that the installation of the ODGV increases the torque output of a single-bladed VAWT by 206% for tip speed ratio of *** result also reveals that higher positive torque can be achieved when the blade tangential force at all radial positions is *** conclusion,the ODGV improves the power output of a VAWT and this integrated design promotes the installation of wind energy systems in urban areas.

Non-small-bowel lesions encountered during double-balloon enteroscopy performed for obscure gastrointestinal bleeding

AIM:To report the incidence of non-small-bowel bleeding pathologies encountered during double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) procedures and to analyse their ***: A retrospective study of a prospective DBE database conducted in a tertiary-referral center was conducted. A total of 179 patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) referred for DBE from June 2004 to November 2008 were analysed looking for the incidence of non-small-bowel lesions (NsBLs; all and newly diagnosed) encountered during ***: There were 228 (150 antegrade and 78 retrograde) DBE procedures performed in 179 patients. The mean number of DBE procedures was 1.27 per patient. The mean age (sD) of the patients was 62 ± 16 years old. There were 94 females (52.5%). The positive yield for a bleeding lesion was 65.9%. Of the 179 patients, 44 (24.6%) had NsBLs (19 of them had dual pathology with small-bowel lesions and NsBLs); 27 (15.1%) had lesions not detected by previous endoscopies. The most common type of missed lesions were vascular ***: A significant proportion of patients (24.6%) had lesions within reach of conventional endoscopy. Careful repeat examination with gastroscopy and colonoscopy might be required.
