This research paper presents a comprehensive discrete element method(DEM)examination of the mixing behaviors exhibited by cohesive particles within a twin-paddle blender.A comparative analysis between the simulation and experimental results revealed a relative error of 3.47%,demonstrating a strong agreement between the results from the experimental tests and the DEM *** main focus centers on systematically exploring how operational parameters,such as impeller rotational speed,blender's fill level,and particle mass ratio,influence the *** investigation also illustrates the significant influence of the mixing time on the mixing *** gain a deeper understanding of the DEM simulation findings,an analytical tool called multivariate polynomial regression in machine learning is *** method uncovers significant connections between the DEM results and the operational parameters,providing a more comprehensive insight into their *** multivariate polynomial regression model exhibited robust predictive performance,with a mean absolute percentage error of less than 3%for both the training and validation sets,indicating a slight deviation from actual *** model's precision was confirmed by low mean absolute error values of 0.0144(80%of the dataset in the training set)and 0.0183(20%of the dataset in the validation set).The study offers valuable insights into granular mixing behaviors,with implications for enhancing the efficiency and predictability of the mixing processes in various industrial applications.

Understanding the degradation behavior of azo dyes in photocatalytic wastewater treatment is of fundamental and practical importance for their application in textile-processing and other coloration industries. In this study, quantum chemistry, as density functional theory, was used to elucidate different degradation pathways of azo pyridone dyes in a hydroxyl radical(HO ·)-initiated photocatalytic system. A series of substituted azo pyridone dyes were synthesized by changing the substituent group in the para position of the benzene moiety, ranging from strong electron-donating to strong electron-withdrawing groups. The effect of dye molecular structure on the photocatalytic degradation reaction mechanism was analyzed and quantification of substituent effects on the thermodynamic and kinetics parameters was performed. Potential energy surface analysis revealed the most susceptible reaction site for the HO ·attack. The calculated reaction barriers are found to be strongly affected by the nature of substituent group with a good correlation using Hammett σp constants and experimentally determined reaction rates. The stability of pre-reaction complexes and transition state complexes were analyzed applying the distortion-interaction model. The increased stability of the transition state complexes with the distancing from the substituent group has been established.

Considering the great potential of natural products as anticancer agents, the present study was designed to explore the molecular mechanisms responsible for anticancer activities of Mesua ferrea stem bark extract against human colorectal carcinoma. Based on MTT assay results, bioactive sub-fraction(sF-3) was selected for further studies using HCT 116 cells. Repeated column chromatography resulted in isolation of less active α-amyrin from sF-3, which was identified and characterized by GC-Ms and HPLC methods. α-amyrin and betulinic acid contents of sF-3 were measured by HPLC methods. Fluorescent assays revealed characteristic apoptotic features, including cell shrinkage, nuclear condensation, and marked decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential in sF-3 treated cells. In addition, increased levels of caspases-9 and-3/7 levels were also observed in sF-3 treated cells. sF-3 showed promising antimetastatic properties in multiple in vitro assays. Multi-pathway analysis revealed significant down-regulation of WNT, HIF-1α, and EGFR with simultaneous up-regulation of p53, Myc/Max, and TGF-β signalling pathways in sF-3 treated cells. In addition, promising growth inhibitory effects were observed in sF-3 treated HCT 116 tumour spheroids, which give a hint about in vivo antitumor efficacy of sF-3 phytoconstituents. In conclusion, these results demonstrated that anticancer effects of sF-3 towards colon cancer are through modulation of multiple molecular pathways.

Objective:To detect the expression of osteopontin(OPN)in benign and malignant bone tumors and investigate the prognostic influence of OPN expression on the outcome of osteosarcoma ***:Fifty-seven osteosarcomas and 11 osteoblastomas as well as 5 bone specimens with remodeling sites were immunohistochemically analyzed for expression of OPN and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2).Results:OPN was not detected in osteoblasts of remodeling ***- blastoma osteoblasts as well as osteoclastlike giant cells and osteosarcoma mononuclear cells showed variable *** osteosarcomas OPN and COX-2 expression correlated with each other(r=0.390,P=0.003,spearman’s test).Although osteosarcoma patients with high COX-2 expression showed a trend towards shorter overall survival(P=0.0841,log-rank test), OPN expression had no influence on patients overall or on disease-free ***:Our data indicated that expres- sion of this protein might be unregulated in bone *** OPN expression correlates with COX-2 expression in osteosarcomas,OPN expression does not provide predictive information about the outcome of osteosarcoma patients.

6361例儿童腹股沟疝:35年回顾

Purpose: This study, by its mere size and uniformity (1 pediatric surgeon), aims to corroborate or refute the teachings and myths of the pediatric inguinal hernia. Methods: From July 1969 to January 2004, 6361 infants and children with inguinal hernias were seen, operated on, and followed by the senior author. A retrospective survey of their charts was carried out to evaluate the demographics and clinical aspects of these patients. The hospital’ s research ethics board approved of this study. Results: The ages ranged from premature to 18 years (mean age, 3.3 years) with a male- to female ratio of 5:1. There were 59% right, 29% left, and 12% bilateral hernias (almost all indirect). Hydroceles were found in 19% . Incarceration occurred in 12% . A modified Ferguson repair was used. An opposite- side hernia developed in 5% , 95% within the first 5 years, and was not sex or age specific. There were 1.2% recurrences, 96% within 5 years. Thirteen percent had ventriculo- peritoneal shunts, 1.2% wound infections, and 0.3% testicular atrophy. There were no postoperative deaths. One percent had a documented hernia disappearance. Conclusions: Three of our results have not corresponded with previous teachings and myths: (1) a hernia of a premature baby should be fixed sooner than later; (2) routine contralateral groin exploration is not indicated in any situation; and (3) teenage recurrence rate is 4 times greater than the overall series.
