The soft X-ray Imager(sXI)is part of the scientific payload of the solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(sMILE)*** is a joint science mission between the European space Agency(EsA)and the Chinese Academy of sciences(CAs)and is due for launch in *** is a compact X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(fOV)capable of encompassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the sMILE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the solar Wind Charge eXchange(sWCX)process produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s *** provides a mechanism for boundary detection within the magnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed magnetic field *** sensitivity of the sXI is such that it can potentially track movements of the magnetopause on timescales of a few minutes and the orbit of sMILE will enable such movements to be tracked for segments lasting many *** is led by the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom(UK)with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the UK,Europe,China and the United states.

Despite the non-contact underwater explosion phenomena(UNDEX)have been studied for decades and several numerical methods have been proposed in literature,its effects on military structures,especially composite ones,are even nowadays matter of *** early design phases,it is not always possible to verify the shock resistance of hull structures modelling the whole phenomenon,in which fluid,gas and solid properties must be properly set in a fully coupled fluid-structure interaction(fsI)numerical *** ones are extremely complex to set,computationally demanding and certainly not suitable for everyday design *** this paper,a simplified finite element(fE)model,easy to use in an early design phase,is ***,the structure and the fluid are *** this approximation,the fluid behaviour is simplified,using special finite elements,available in a commercial software *** choice reduces the computational time and numerical efforts avoiding the problem of combining computational fluid dynamics(CfD)and fE domains and equations in a fully coupled fluid-structure interaction model.A typical parallel body block of a minesweeper is modelled,using two-dimensional multi-layered shell elements to properly account for the composite materials *** the fluid instead,three dimensional volumetric elements,directly coupled to the structural elements,are *** addition,the same calculation is performed,modelling separately fluid in the CfD environment and structures in the finite element ***,realizing a fully coupled fluid-structure interaction *** results obtained by applying both numerical models are compared with the structural response measured on board of a composite ship during a full-scale shock *** simplified proposed procedure provides results in satisfactory agreement with experiments,allowing the validation of the *** are discussed and differences with the real phenomenon and fully coupled CfD+

D-transposition of the great arteries(d-TGA)is surgically repaired with the arterial switch operation(AsO)with excellent results,however short and long-term morbidities still develop including neurocognitive *** significant central sleep apnea is uncommon in non-premature infants,but when present indicates immature autonomic control of respiration likely due to a neurologic *** report the unanticipatedfinding of central sleep apnea in four-term neonates with d-TGA after uncomplicated AsO,with the short-term complication of delayed hospital discharge and long-term concerns regarding this early marker of brain immaturity and its hindrance to normal *** this report,we will review each patient’s clinical course and then examine the literature on pediatric central sleep apnea,neurodevelopmental outcomes after AsO,and the important overlap of these entities in the care of patients going forward.

facile synthesis of accordion-like porous carbon from waste PET bottles-based MIL-53(Al) and its application for high-performance Zn-ion capacitor

It is of great scientific and economic value to recycle waste poly（ethylene terephthalate）(PET) into high-value PET-based metal organic frameworks（MOfs） and further convert it into porous carbon for green energy storage applications. In the present study, a facile and costeffective hydrothermal process was developed to direct recycle waste PET bottles into MIL-53（Al） with a 100% conversation, then the MOfderived porous carbon was assembled into electrodes for high-performance supercapacitors. The results indicated that the as-synthesized carbon exhibited high ssA of 1712 m2g-1and unique accordion-like structure with hierarchical porosity. Benefit to these advantageous characters, the assembled three-electrode supercapacitor displayed high specific capacitances of 391 f g-1at the current density of 0.5 A g-1and good rate capability of 73.6% capacitance retention at 20 A g-1in 6 mol L-1KOH electrolyte. furthermore, the assembled zinc ion capacitor still revealed outstanding capacitance of 335 f g-1at 0.1 A g-1, excellent cycling stability of 92.2% capacitance retention after 10 000 cycles and ultra-high energy density of 150.3 Wh kg-1at power density of 90 W kg-1in 3 mol L-1ZnsO4electrolyte. It is believed that the current work provides a facile and effective strategy to recycle PET waste into high-valuable MOf, and further expands the applications of MOf-derived carbons for high-performance energy storage devices, so it is conducive to both pollution alleviation and sustainable economic development.

Luminescence constitutes a unique source of insight into hot carrier processes in metals,including those in plasmonic nanostructures used for sensing and energy ***,being weak in nature,metal luminescence remains poorly understood,its microscopic origin strongly debated,and its potential for unraveling nanoscale carrier dynamics largely ***,we reveal quantum-mechanical effects in the luminescence emanating from thin monocrystalline gold ***,we present experimental evidence,supported by first-principles simulations,to demonstrate its photoluminescence origin(i.e.,radiative emission from electron/hole recombination)when exciting in the interband *** model allows us to identify changes to the measured gold luminescence due to quantum-mechanical effects as the gold film thickness is ***,such effects are observable in the luminescence signal from flakes up to 40 nm in thickness,associated with the out-of-plane discreteness of the electronic band structure near the fermi *** qualitatively reproduce the observations with first-principles modeling,thus establishing a unified description of luminescence in gold monocrystalline flakes and enabling its widespread application as a probe of carrier dynamics and light-matter interactions in this *** study paves the way for future explorations of hot carriers and charge-transfer dynamics in a multitude of material systems.

Exploring one material for dual applications:A red-emitting Mg2GeO4:Eu3+ nanophosphor for future generation energy efficient WLEDs and dosimetric applications

Effect of radiative loss mechanisms on fIR thermometric parameters of Nd^(3+)-doped lithium tellurite glasses

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(fIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the fIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)f_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)f_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.
