In the present work the synthesis of C60 produced in a conventional microwave oven from the decomposition of camphor resin is reported. The polycrystalline structure of the sample was determined by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), the sample showed several phases, the main phase corresponds to fullerene C60 ordered in a Face-Centered Cubic structure (FCC), with two more structures: one orthorhombic system and the other the monoclinic system coexisting also with graphite 2H phase. It was observed in a scanning electron Microscopy (seM), that the sample formed thin films of stacked carbon. Whereas in a High Resolution Transmission electron Microscopy (HRTeM), measurements in Bright Field mode revealed that the main phase of the material is C60 ordered in FCC structure and the elemental composition and atomic bonding state can be determined by analyzing the energy with the electron microscope by elesctron energy- Loss spectroscopy (eeLs), technique allowed confirm all the phase C60 established with XRD observations.

This paper compares the efficiency of D2eHPA and Cyanex 272 to extract the divalent manganese cation from an actual leaching solution obtained by reductive leaching of a low-grade pyrolusite ore, using sO2 gas. The studied variables were the extractant concentration in the organic phase, the pH of the leached liquor and the volume ratio between organic phase and leached liquor. It was observed that D2eHPA is a better extractant than Cyanex272. Therefore, with the best experimental conditions found, both extractants reach a manganese recovery around 95% with five extraction stages conducted under the following conditions: 25?C, O/A = 2, 10% volume of extractant concentration in the organic phase, pH of the leached liquor before the mixing between 8 and 8.5, and one minute of mixing time for each extraction stage.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide-adriamycin treatment in breast cancer patients through the frequencies of sister Chromatid exchange (sCe), Replication Index (RI), Mitotic Index (MI) and Cell Proliferation Index (CPI) and to study the possible association between biomarkers of genotoxicity and the early response to treatment. The frequencies were obtained before and immediately after therapy from 17 patients with breast cancer (p esponse to treatment was assessed after two years resulting in 12 patients in a state of remission. MI and CPI had high values after treatment in women with active cancers compared to those in a state of remission, however there were not significant differences. Conclusions: It is possible that MI y CPI biomarkers can serve as indicators for early assessment of treatment with cyclophosphamide-adriamycin. It should be noted that these are preliminary results and further study is necessary.

This paper presents a non-linear simulation of the impact on a structure with different energy absorption systems using finite element models. Literature review on bistable structure, aluminum foam and expandable polystyrene is presented and taken as basis to propose energy absorption systems. Using a base structure, these systems are implemented by means of finite element modeling. A comparison of the damage caused to the structure in case of impact without implementing energy absorption system, and implementing energy absorption systems based on bistable structures, polystyrene foam and aluminum foam are shown here in. The results demonstrate the advantages of using energy absorption systems on structures under impact loads.

The cryptic lifestyle of most fungi necessitates molecular identification of the guild in environmental *** the past decades,rapid development and affordability of molecular tools have tremendously improved insights of the fungal diversity in all ecosystems and ***,in spite of the progress of molecular methods,knowledge about functional properties of the fungal taxa is vague and interpretation of environmental studies in an ecologically meaningful manner remains *** order to facilitate functional assignments and ecological interpretation of environmental studies we introduce a user friendly traits and character database FungalTraits operating at genus and species hypothesis *** the information from previous efforts such as FUnGuild and FunFun together with involvement of expert knowledge,we reannotated 10,210 and 151 fungal and stramenopila genera,*** resulted in a stand-alone spreadsheet dataset covering 17 lifestyle related traits of fungal and stramenopila genera,designed for rapid functional assignments of environmental *** order to assign the trait states to fungal species hypotheses,the scientific community of experts manually categorised and assigned available trait information to 697,413 fungal ITs *** the basis of those sequences we were able to summarise trait and host information into 92,623 fungal species hypotheses at 1%dissimilarity threshold.

Fungi are highly important biotic components of terrestrial ecosystems,but we still have a very limited understanding about their diversity and *** data article releases a global soil fungal dataset of the Global soil Mycobiome consortium(GsMc)to boost further research in fungal diversity,biogeography and *** dataset comprises 722,682 fungal operational taxonomic units(OTUs)derived from PacBio sequencing of full-length ITs and 18s-V9 variable regions from 3200 plots in 108 countries on all *** plots are supplied with geographical and edaphic *** OTUs are taxonomically and functionally assigned to guilds and other functional *** entire dataset has been corrected by excluding chimeras,index-switch artefacts and potential *** dataset is more inclusive in terms of geographical breadth and phylogenetic diversity of fungi than previously published *** GsMc dataset is available over the PlutoF repository.

Background. Actinic prurigo (AP) is a photodermatosis with a restricted ethnic distribution, mainly affecting Mestizowomen (mixed Indian and european). The le sions are polymorphic and include macules, papules, crusts, hyperpigmentation an d lichenification. Thalidomide, an effective immunomodulatory drug, was first us ed successfully to treat AP in 1973. In this work we descri be the effect that t halidomide had on TnF-αsera levels and on IL-4-and IFn gamma (IFnγ)-produc ing lymphocytes of actinic prurigo (AP) patients. Methods. Actinic prurigo patie nts were analyzed before and after thalidomide treatment. The percentage of IL- 4+or IFnγ+CD3+lymphocytes was analyzed in eight of them by flow cytometry. T nFαin sera was measured by eLIsA in 11 patients. Results. A direct correlation was observed between resolution of AP lesions and an increase in IFnγ+CD3+per ipheral blood mononuclear cells (P ≤0.001) and a decrease in TnFαserum levels (no statistical difference). no IL-4+CD3+cells were detected. Conclusions. Ou r findings confirm that AP is a disease that has an immunological component and that thalidomide clinical efficacy is exerted not only through inhibition of TnF αsynthesis, but also through modulation of InFγ-producing CD3+cells. These c ells could be used as clinical markers for recovery.
