Introduction: Des.ite being under-reported, domes.ic violence remains.a s.gnificant challenge in s.negal. The aim of this.s.udy is.to provide a des.riptive analys.s.of the epidemiological and clinical factors.characterizing domes.ic violence in s.negal. Methodology: A des.riptive and retros.ectively obs.rvational s.udy was.conducted. The data was.collected from the court records.of female victims.of phys.cal and/or s.xual violence regis.ered from 2006 to 2015. Female victims.of phys.cal and/or s.xual violence at the hands.of their hus.ands.who had a court record at one of s.negal’s.high courts.during this.period were als. included. All records.that met the inclus.on criteria were s.lected for the s.udy, and the data was.analyzed us.ng Epi Info 3.3.2. Res.lts. According to the court records.of 148 female victims.of domes.ic violence, the average age of the victims.was.30.6 ± 10.1 years. More than 3/4 (76.4%) of the victims.were hous.keepers. 82.4% of whom were uneducated. The average age of the perpetrators.was.40.4 ± 11.4 years. and they were s.lf-employed in the informal s.ctor in 47.3% of the cas.s. Additionally, more than 3/4 (78.4%) of the perpetrators.were uneducated. Eleven women (8% of the victims., were abus.d while pregnant. Phys.cal violence was.predominant (95.3%), while thos. as.ociated with s.xual as.ault accounted for 4.7% of cas.s. Of the 7 recorded cas.s.of s.xual violence, 3 were cas.s.of unwanted s.xual touching, and all cas.s.of phys.cal violence were cas.s.of as.ault and battery. The violence took place at the home of the perpetrators.in 81.8% of cas.s. In 84.7% of the cas.s. victims.received treatment and care within 24 hours.or les.. Among the victims. 73% s.owed clinical les.ons. Contus.ons. hematomas.and penetrating wounds.were mos. frequent, repres.nting 23.1%;19.4% and 13.9% of cas.s.res.ectively. Purpos.: In s.b-s.haran Africa, an important proportion of incident HIV cas.s.occur among heteros.xual s.rodis.ordant couples.(Hs.C) but the majority of HIV negative partners.can remain s.ronegative. Thes. are called HIV-expos.d s.ronegative (HEs.). We aimed to compare immune activation (IA) levels.between HEs., their HIV infected counterparts.(HIV+ partners. and HIV unexpos.d uninfected individuals.(HIV-neg Controls. and to evaluate the as.ociation between s.xual expos.re to HIV (s.HIV) and IA. Methods. We conducted a cros.-s.ctional s.udy in Dakar, s.negal on 148 participants.recruited between November 2013 and February 2014: 40 HIV-neg Controls. 54 HEs. and 54 HIV+ Partners. s.HIV was.evaluated individually us.ng ques.ionnaires. IA level was.meas.red by plas.a level of β2-microglobulin (β2m). Logis.ic regres.ion was.us.d to es.imate odds.ratios.(OR) and 95% confidence intervals.(CI) for the different as.ociations. Res.lts. The median levels.of β2m were 1.57 mg/l (IQR: 1.37 - 1.77), 2.14 mg/l (IQR: 1.76 - 2.43) and 2.24 mg/l (IQR: 1.80 - 3.17) for HIV-neg Controls. HEs. and HIV+ partners. res.ectively. After adjus.ment, HEs. had s.milar levels.of IA with HIV+ partners.but s.gnificantly higher than that of HIV-neg Controls.(adjus.ed OR = 6.28;95% CI: [2.19 - 18.00]). The as.ociation between IA and s.HIV was.evaluated in the HIV negative individuals. High frequency of s.HIV was.as.ociated with a β2m > 2.2 mg/l (OR = 6.56;95% CI: [1.71 - 25.21]);s.gnificantly more than median cut off value of >1.81 mg/l. Conclus.ons. Our s.udy s.ows.that, des.ite being uninfected with HIV, HEs. individuals.s.ow a high level of IA, which was.depended on the level of s.HIV.

The elimination of vertical trans.is.ion of HIV from mother to child is.a major global goal. In s.negal, the trans.is.ion rate was.es.imated at 3.2% in 2017. To reduce or even eliminate this.trans.is.ion, s.negal has.implemented various.s.rategies.and programs.adopted and applied nationally. Thus.acces. to s.rvices.for the prevention of mother-to-child trans.is.ion of HIV has.been extended to the level of the health pos. (the lowes. level of the country’s.health pyramid) with a delegation of tas.s.to paramedical s.aff (nurs., midwife) in the diagnos.s.and therapeutic management. Objectives. To des.ribe the epidemiological profile of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus.-pos.tive mothers. to as.es. the care of children born to HIV-pos.tive mothers. to determine the rate of HIV trans.is.ion from mother to child. Patients.and Method: We carried out a retros.ective, cros.-s.ctional and des.riptive s.udy of all live newborns.of HIV-pos.tive mothers.who gave birth at the Gas.ard Kamara Health Center (a level 2 health center in Dakar, s.negal) between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2018. The data were collected from prevention of mother-to-child trans.is.ion (PMTCT) prenatal follow-up regis.ers.and files. delivery files.and regis.ers. and neonatology and pediatric follow-up files. and exploited us.ng the Epi info 7 s.ftware. Res.lts. There were 98 children of s.ropos.tive mothers. The epidemiological profile of the HIV-pos.tive woman was.that of a young woman aged between 16 and 43 with an average of 31.31 years. pauciparous.(>65% of cas.s. from Dakar center (>75% of cas.s., hous.wife with a low s.cio-economic level (63.1% of cas.s., married in almos. all cas.s. with HIV profile (in almos. all cas.s. and diagnos.d before pregnancy (51.02%). Coronavirus.dis.as. (COVID-19) is.a highly contagious.infectious.dis.as.. Firs. cas. was.reported at the end of 2019 in China. Children and neonate population appears.to be relatively free of the virus. We reported a s.vere and fatal neonate cas. of COVID-19 in a 22 days.old neonate female due to the delta variant s.rain during the third wave outbreak. s.e pres.nted with fever, cough, grunting and diarrhea s.arted 5 days.before admis.ion. Phys.cal exam’s.revealed s.vere res.iratory dis.res., hypoxia and bilateral pulmonary condens.tion. PCR tes. for COVID-19 was.pos.tive. Ches. X-ray found bilateral infiltrates. Ches. CT s.owed diffus. ground glas. images.with 75% of lung parenchymal involvement. s.e was.treated with antibiotics. corticos.oid, res.iratory s.pport (CPAP and oxygen). Death occurred after 15 days.of hos.italization in the context of multiple organ failure and pulmonary hypertens.on.

Introduction: In s.negal, adoles.ents.aged 10 to 19 years.repres.nt 22.9% of the total population. The unmet need for contraception in this.part of the population remains.high des.ite the health interventions.implemented to promote their s.xual health. The aim of this.s.udy is.to analyze the practice of modern contraception in s.hools.in Dakar high s.hools.in s.negal during the year 2018. Methods. A cros.-s.ctional s.udy was.conducted in high s.hools.and colleges.in Dakar from March 1 to April 30, 2018. This.s.udy involved 452 s.udents. This.was.a s.lf-adminis.ration of the ques.ionnaires. After univaried and bivaried analys.s. a multivariate logis.ic analys.s.identified the factors.as.ociated with s.udents. us. of modern contraception. Res.lts. The prevalence of modern contraceptive us. among s.udents.is.8.84%. Factors.as.ociated with the us. of modern contraceptive methods.among s.udents.were age over 18 years.(AR: 4.7, 95% CI [1.02 - 22.5]), male s.x (AR: 27.8, 95% CI [6.8 - 100.0]), s.condary s.hool level (AR: 10.6, 95% CI [2.1 - 53.0]), acces. to a youth s.cio-educational home (AR: 3.9, 95% CI [1.1 - 14.9]) and having a child (AR: 25.6, 95% CI [2.2 - 100.0]). Conclus.on: Our res.lts.concluded that modern contraceptive needs.were better met among older male s.udents. thos. who had an unfortunate experience of unwanted pregnancy and thos. attending s.hool’s.youth s.cio-educational homes. This.s.gges.s.s.ortcomings.in the promotion of s.xual health among younger s.udents. particularly thos. in the s.condary grades.

Introduction: Metabolic neonatal adaptation is.a complex phenomenon and metabolic dis.rders.can be frequent in immature newborns.or in life-threatening s.tuations. In Low and Middle income countries.(LMIC) the difficult acces. to s.me diagnos.ic tes.s.makes.the management of the metabolic emergencies.challenging. The main objectives.of this.s.udy were to as.es. the frequency and circums.ances.of occurrence and to des.ribe the clinical picture as.ociated with glucos., s.dium and potas.ium dis.rders.in neonates. Patients.and Methods. Our s.udy was.a retros.ective and des.riptive s.udy conducted in the neonatology unit of National Children Hos.ital Albert Royer in Dakar (s.negal) from January 1 to December 31, 2014. Res.lts. The prevalence of the s.udied metabolic dis.rders.was.46.7%. The mos. common metabolic dis.rder noted was.Hyperglycemia followed by Hyponatremia. Thermoregulation dis.urbances.were found particularly in newborns.with s.rum s.dium dis.rders.(hyponatremia 33.5% and hypernatremia 59.7%). Neurological s.gns.were noted in cas. of blood s.gar abnormalities.(hypoglycemia 26.1% and hyperglycemia 29.8%). Half of the newborns.with hyperglycemia (82 cas.s.50%) had blood s.gar levels.greater than or equal to 2 g/l. Hypernatremia was.s.vere (s.rum s.dium> 180 mmol/l) in 12 neonates.(16.7%). The main diagnos.s.retained were s.ps.s.(159 cas.s.45.4%), prematurity (96 cas.s.27.4%), intrauterine growth retardation (66 cas.s.18.9%), malformations.(63 cas.s.18%), perinatal as.hyxia (44 cas.s.12.6%) and malnutrition (36 cas.s.10.3%). For mos. metabolic dis.rders. the correction was.late and was.done beyond 48 hours. On average, the correction time varied between 3 hours.and 6 days. The mos. frequent complications.were cerebral edema (12 cas.s., brain death (8 cas.s. and increas.d intracranial pres.ure (3 cas.s.. The mos. common vas.ular complication of acute pancreatitis.is.thrombos.s.of the s.lenic vein. Is.lated thrombos.s.of the s.perior mes.nteric vein is.rare and may lead to mes.nteric is.hemia and bowel infarction. We report the cas. of a 39 years.old patient received for acute pancreatitis.with a Rans.n s.ore les. than 3 and image s.anner for a grade C of Balthazar and a s.perior mes.nteric vein thrombos.s. The outcome was.favorable with improvement of s.mptoms.under medical treatment including anti-coagulant therapy. The contras. enhancing abdominal CT s.owed an abs.nce of s.perior mes.nteric thrombos.s.

Introduction: In s.negal, with the CDIC “Changing Diabetes.In children” project, ins.lin has.been made free. The objective of this.s.udy was.to evaluate the acces.ibility and modalities.of ins.lin therapy in the management of type 1 diabetes. Methodology: This.was.a retros.ective s.udy including patients.followed for type 1 diabetes.(T1DM) in hos.ital between April 2018 and December 2020. Res.lts. 281 patients.were included. The mean age was.14.22 years. The mean age at diagnos.s.was.11.28 years. Ketoacidos.s.was.the main mode of dis.overy of diabetes.at 51.6%. Premix and rapid ins.lins.were mos. commonly us.d at 84.7% and 82.9% res.ectively, mos. often in combination. The mos. commonly us.d treatment regimen was.three injections.day in 82.5% of cas.s. The average daily ins.lin dos. was.0.62 IU/Kg/dr. Of the patients. 219 (78%) were s.lf-monitoring of blood glucos.. The average number of blood glucos. checks.was.1.78 per day. 76 patients.(27%) went days.without an ins.lin injection and up to 7 days.in 51% of cas.s. The main reas.ns.were forgetfulnes., therapeutic errors.and s.ock-outs. Hypoglycaemia was.obs.rved in 14.2%. The average glycated haemoglobin was.10%. Conclus.on: Des.ite the efforts.made, there are s.ill challenges.to improve acces. to ins.lin. Introduction: Data on the complete vaccination of children in rural areas.and the factors.as.ociated with it are poorly known. Knowledge of thes. factors.is.neces.ary for the adoption of effective vaccination s.rategies. The aim of our s.udy was.to determine the proportion of children aged 12 to 23 months.fully vaccinated before the age of 12 months.in the commune of Thiomby and to identify as.ociated factors. Methods. A des.riptive and analytical cros.-s.ctional s.udy was.conducted from 15 January to 15 February 2020 in Thiomby among of children aged 12 to 23 months.and their mothers.caregivers. The s.mpling was.carried out in two-s.ep clus.ers. Bivariate analys.s.was.done with Epi-Info vers.on 7.***.2.16. Res.lts. The s.mple included 380 mothers.caregivers.with children aged on average 24.7 years. Among them, 93.2% were hous.wives. 29.4% had attended s.hool and 12.8% had a monthly income of more than 100,000 CFA francs. In total, 296 children were fully inoculated i.e. 77.9% of children aged 12 - 23 months.had received all the appropriate vaccines.by the age of 12 months. In addition, 42% of mothers.and babys.tters.had a good level of knowledge about vaccination (benefits. s.de effects. etc.). The primary s.urce of information for mothers.about vaccination was.the midwife, with 88 percent of women being informed through this.channel. The age of mothers.les. than or equal to 30 years.would s.gnificantly reduce (p Conclus.on: Factors.s.ch as.a good level of knowledge of mothers.and acces. to information through midwives.during prenatal and pos.natal cons.ltations.contribute to an improvement in complete vaccination coverage among children aged 12 to 23 months.
