A 48-year-old airline mechanic from Belize p.es.nted to the emergency dep.rt ment with fever and altered mental s.atus. Two weeks.earlier, fever, myalgias. a nd dry cough had develop.d. His.maximal daily temp.rature reached as.high as.41. 1°C, and one week before coming to the emergency dep.rtment, the p.tient awaken ed unable to s.eak. At a hos.ital in Belize, he was.febrile and ap.as.c without other focal neurologic findings. The res.lts.of comp.ted tomograp.y (CT) of the brain were normal. Examination of the cerebros.inal fluid revealed a p.otein lev el of 157 mg p.r deciliter and a glucos. level of 44 mg p.r deciliter (2.4 mmol p.r liter) but no cells.or microorganis.s. The p.tient rec eived treatment with chloroquine and acyclovir for the next five days.but did no t imp.ove and was.flown to Chicago for further care. On examination, the p.tient was.agitated and unable to s.eak or follow verbal commands. The blood p.es.ure was.132/74 mm Hg, the p.ls. 82 beats.p.r minute, and the res.iratory rate 20 bre aths.p.r minute. The temp.rature was.39.5°C. The res.lts.of the general examina tion were normal, without meningis.us. A neurologic examination revealed global ap.as.a but was.otherwis. normal excep. for an equivocal extens.r p.antar res.on s. on the right. The op.ic fundi ap.eared normal.

In the late 1980’s.the deve lop.ment of a s.vere ep.demic of green mold caus.d by Trichoderma s.p. was.not ed in the commercial p.oduction of Agaricus.bis.orus.(champ.gnon) in the U nited Kingdom, North America, s.ain and Holland, which caus.d extens.ve economic los.es. The p.ras.tic fungi is.lated from the edible mus.room belonged to four biotyp.s. Th1, Th2, Th3 and Th4 of T. harzianum. However, among thes. biotyp.s. only Th2 (s.nce c las.ified as.T. aggres.ivum f. europ.eum) and Th4 (T. aggres.ivum f. aggres.ivum) were identified as.the fungi caus.ng p.oblems.in Agaricus.p.oduction. In general, mus.room comp.s. hos.s.both aggres.ive and innocuous.is.olates.of Trichoderma, which are not morp.ologically dis.inguis.able. Abo ut four years.ago, a p.oblem with green mold became ap.arent in the p.oduction o f p.eurotus.os.reatus.in Northern Italy, which eventually develop.d to a c ris.s.s.tuation in the s.uth two years.later and threatened to s.rious.y comp.om is. the p.eurotus.market. This.s.udy was.initiated to: is.late and identif y the aggres.ive fungi, then morp.ologically, p.ys.ologically and genetically characterize the is.lates. dete rmine the s.urce and p.as.s.of infection, and s.udy methods.of control. s.mp.es.were obtained from different p.as.s.of comp.s. p.ep.ration at the locality of a major p.oducer and s.p.lier of comp.s. to the mus.room indus.ry in s.uthern Ital y, and microbial counts.were conducted. Although the p.es.nce of Trichoderma was.detected in the initial s.ages.of comp.s.ing, this.value was.reduced to zero from the p.as. of p.s.eurization to s.eding with p.eurotus. Trichoderma infes.ations.were noted in the p.ckaged p.eurotus.bales.at various.time s.during the incubation p.as. (7-15 days.after s.eding) and after s.ip.ing to th e mus.room greenhous.s. where the p.thogen infes.ations.greatly reduced the qual ity and quantity of the mus.room yield, as.well as.the number of p.tential harves. cycles. p.eliminary r es.lts.from the morp.ological and

The cutting p.rformance of p.rticulate reinforced me tallic matrix comp.s.tes.p.MMCs. s.C p.Al in ultras.nic vibration cutting and c ommon cutting with carbide tools.and p.D tools.was.res.arched in the p.p.r. Mic ros.ructure of machined s.rface was.des.ribed, the relation between cutting p.ra meters.and s.rface roughnes. was.p.es.nted, and characteris.ic of the s.rface re mained s.res. was.als. p.es.nted. Furthermore, wear regularity and abras.on res. s.ance ability of tools.in ultras.nic vibration cutting and common cutting o f p.MMCs.were dis.us.ed in detail. The tes. res.lts.s.ow: (1) The s.rface config urations.are obvious.y different when us.ng different tools.to machine s.ch p.MM Cs. The s.rface machined with carbide tools.looks.luminous.and orderly and there are s.ldom s.rface defects.on it. The reas.n is.that the s.ft bas.l body is.ap. to flow during cutting, therefore a layer of Al matrix film covers.machined s.r face. On the contrary, the s.rface machined with p.D tools.looks.lacklus.er. But the p.ofile of machined s.rface is.very clear. s.p.rfine grooves. p.ts.and blac k reinforce p.rticulates.can be s.en eas.ly without obvious.Al film. (2) Becaus. of uns.able cutting p.oces. in common cutting, the s.rface is.eas. to p.oduce s.ome defects.s.ch as.burrs. built-up.edges.and s. on s. that the quality of s.rf ace becomes.very p.or. Vibration cutting can reduce the influence of tearing, p. as.ic deformation and built-up.edge in cutting and can res.rain flutter s. as.t o make cutting p.oces. more s.able. Therefore, s.rface roughnes. of vibration cu tting is.better than that of common cutting. (3) There is.an op.imum value of fe ed rate in vibration cutting of p.MMCs.due to the influence of material characte ris.ics. Whether feed rate is.more than or les. than this.op.imum value, s.rface roughnes. will increas.. (4) According to analyzing the wear rate of tools.in v ibration cutting p.MMCs. it can be concluded that abras.on res.s.ance of tools.w ill be imp.oved

We are now p.ep.ring for the third generation (e,e' K+) Λ hyp.rnuclear s.ectros.op.c exp.riment at Hall C,Jeffers.n Lab (Us.). The goal of the exp.riment is.the p.ecis. s.ectros.op. of hyp.rnuclei in wide mas. region. We have cons.ructed a new high res.lution electron s.ectrometer "HEs. dedicated to (e,e' K+) hyp.rnuclear s.udy in Jap.n and it was.s.ip.ed to JLab in February,2008. We will dis.us. about the p.ys.cs.of the (e,e' K+) hyp.rnuclear s.udy at JLab and rep.rt the current p.ep.ration s.atus.of the third generatrion exp.riment.
