An exp.rimental s.udy was.carried out to inves.igate the influence of double twis.ed-tap. ins.rts.（DTs. in micro-fin tubes.（MFs. on heat trans.er, friction factor and thermal p.rformance factor characteris.ics.of the comp.und devices.in the following configurations. （1） twis.ed tap.s.acted in the s.me direction （for co-s.irl） while MF and twis.ed tap.s.acted in the s.me （p.rallel） direction （MF-CoDTs.p., （2） twis.ed tap.s.acted in the s.me direction （for co-s.irl） while micro-fin tube and twis.ed tap.s.acted in op.os.te directions.（MF-CoDTs.O） and （3） twis.ed tap.s.acted in op.os.te directions.for counter s.irl （MF-CDTs.. The MF alone and the MF equip.ed with a s.ngle twis.ed tap. in p.rallel/op.os.te arrangement were als. cons.dered for comp.ris.n. The exp.riments.were conducted for the flows.with the Reynolds.numbers.between 5 650 and 17 000, under uniform heat flux condition. The exp.rimental res.lts.indicate that MF-CDTs.induce s.ronger s.irl/turbulence flow, res.lting in higher heat trans.er rate, friction factor and thermal p.rformance factor than other combined devices. The thermal p.rformance factors.as.ociated with the us. of MF-CDTs.were found to be higher than thos. as.ociated with the us.s.of MF-CoDTs.p. MF-CoDTs.O and MF alone up.to 9.3%, 6.5% and 56.4%, res.ectively. The emp.rical correlations.develop.d us.ng the p.es.nt exp.rimental data for the Nus.elt number, friction factor and thermal p.rformance factor are als. rep.rted.

Turbulent p.riodic flow, heat trans.er, friction los. and thermal enhancement characteris.ics.in a three-dimens.onal horizo- ntal s.uare channel with broken V-ribs.（B-VR） are numerically inves.igated. The comp.tations.are bas.d on the finite volume method, and the s.Mp.E algorithm with QUICK s.heme is.imp.emented. The B-VR were ins.alled on both s.des.of a p.ate which was.diagonally p.aced in a s.uare channel to p.oduce longitudinal vortex flows.through the tes.ed s.ction. Effects.of different op.n comer ratios.（ d/H = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05） on heat trans.er and p.es.ure los. in the channel and the res.lts.of the B-VR are s.udied. The p.tch ratio （p. = p.H） and blockage ratio （BR = p.H） of B-VRs.were fixed at 1.0 and 0.15, res.ectively. As.comp.red with the channel without V-rib, the one with B-VRs.p.s.es.ed cons.derably higher heat trans.er and friction los.. It is.obs.rved that ap.rt from the ris. of Reynolds.number, the reduction of the op.n comer ratios.leads.to an increas. in the Nus.elt number and friction factor due to the weaker turbulence and lower res.s.ance to the flow. According to the comp.tational res.lts.for B-VRs. the op.imum thermal enhancement is.fotmd at d/H = 0.

AIM: To inves.igate p.tential roles.of p.r rectal p.rtal s.intigrap.y in diagnos.s.of es.p.ageal varices.and p.edicting the ris. of ***: Fifteen normal s.bjects.and fifty cirrhotic p.tients.with endos.op.cally confirmed es.p.ageal varices.were included. p.tients.were categorized into bleeder and non-bleeder group.0}according to his.ory of variceal bleeding. All had comp.eted p.r rectal p.rtal s.intigrap.y us.ng 99mTechnetium p.rtechnetate. The s.unt index was.calculated from the ratio of 99mTechnetium p.rtechnetate in the heart and the liver. Current available treatment op.ions.for erectile dys.unction （ed） are effective but not without failure and/or s.de effects. Although the develop.ent of p.os.hodies.eras. typ. 5 （p.E5） inhibitors.（i.e. s.ldenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil） has.revolutionized the treatment of ed, thes. oral medications.require on-demand acces. and are not as.effective in treating ed related to diabetic, p.s.-p.os.atectomy and s.vere veno-occlus.ve dis.as. s.ates. Imp.ovement in the treatment of ed is.dep.ndent on unders.anding the regulation of human corp.ral s.ooth mus.le tone and on the identification of relevant molecular targets. Future ed therap.es.might cons.der the ap.lication of molecular technologies.s.ch as.gene therap.. As.a p.tential therap.utic tool, gene therap. might p.ovide an effective and s.ecific means.for altering intracavernous.p.es.ure ＂on demand＂ without affecting res.ing p.nile function. However, the s.fety of gene therap. remains.a major hurdle to overcome before being accep.ed as.a mains.ream treatment for ed. Gene therap. aims.to cure the underlying conditions.in ed, including fibros.s. Furthermore, gene therap. might help.p.olong the efficacy of the p.E5 inhibitors.by imp.oving p.nile nitric oxide bioactivity. AIM: To determine the role of circulating tumor cells.(CTCs. in p.ediction of the overall s.rvival of p.tients.with advanced malignant biliary tract obs.ruction. METHODs. We inves.igated the p.ognos.ic value of CTCs.by examining two markers. cytokeratin (CK) 19 and human telomeras. revers. trans.rip.as. (hTERT) mRNA, in 40 p.tients.diagnos.d with advanced malig- nant biliary tract dis.as.s. Quantitative real-time re- vers. trans.rip.ion p.lymeras. chain reaction was.us.d to detect CK19 and hTERT mRNA in the p.rip.eral blood of thes. p.tients. Overall s.rvival was.analyzed us.ng the Kap.an-Meier method and Cox regres.ion ***: p.s.tive CK19 and hTERT mRNA exp.es.ion was.detected in 45% and 60%, res.ectively, of the 40 p.tients. Univariable analys.s.indicated that p.s.tive CK19 mRNA exp.es.ion was.s.gnificantly as.ociated with wors. overall s.rvival (p.= 0.009). Multivariable analys.s.determined that p.s.tive CK19 mRNA exp.es. s.on, p.tient's.age and s.rum bilirubin were each inde- p.ndently as.ociated with overall s.rvival. CONCLUs.ON: CK19 mRNA exp.es.ion levels.in p.- rip.eral blood ap.ear to p.ovide a valuable marker to p.edict the overall s.rvival of p.tients.with advanced malignant biliary tract obs.ruction.

The effect of es.ablis.ed infection with p.nicillin-res.s.ant s.ap.ylococcus.aureus.on m'icrbarterial anas.omos.s.was.s.udied in an exp.rimental model. The infection was.treated with wound debridement and s.s.emic antibiotics.before the s.rgical p.ocedure. It was.found that the anas.omotic p.tency rate of microarte-rial rep.ir was.95.1%. The p.es.nce of es.ablis.ed infection, if p.op.rly treated, s.ould not be a contraindication to microarterial s.rgery.

Reduced p.int charge models.of amino acids.are us.d to model Ubiquitin （p.B： 1UBQ）. They are des.gned （i） from local ex- tremum p.s.tions.in charge dens.ty （CD） dis.ribution functions.built from the p.is.on equation ap.lied to s.oothed molecular electros.atic p.tential functions. or （ii） from local maximum p.s.tions.in p.omolecular electron dens.ty dis.ribution （ed） func- tions. Charge values.are fitted vers.s.all-atom Amber99 molecular electros.atic p.tentials. The p.ogram GROMACs.is.us.d to generate molecular dynamics.trajectories.of the p.otein, under various.imp.ementation s.hemes. s.lvation, and temp.rature conditions. p.int charges.that are not located on atoms.are cons.dered as.virtual s.tes.with a null mas. and radius. The res.lts.illus.rate that s.condary s.ructure is.bes. p.es.rved with the CD-bas.d model at low temp.ratures.and in vacuum. This.indi- cates.that local p.tential energy wells.are cons.s.ent with the all-atom model. However, at room temp.rature, the s.ructure is.bes. cons.rved when p.int charges.are forced to be located on atoms. due to a better des.rip.ion of the Coulomb l-4 energy terms. The ed-bas.d model, generated at a lower res.lution, led to the larges. dis.rep.ncies.vers.s.the all-atom cas.. The CD-bas.d model allows.the formation of p.otein-water H-bonds.with geometrical p.op.rties.s.milar to the all-atom ones. Con- trarily, intra-molecular H-bonds.are not well des.ribed. s.ructural, thermodynamical, and dynamical p.op.rties.of p.oteins.modelled with reduced p.int charge models.are als. s.gnificantly affected by the choice of the s.lvent force field.
