Ins.itutional arrangement and typology of community fores.s.of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland of North-Eas. India

Mos. community fores.s.in hill regions.of northeas. India have been managed by traditional local ins.itutions.for centuries.and mos. of thes. ins.itutions.remain functional even today. Higher fores. coverage on private and community lands.as.compared to government land indicates.that traditional ins.itutions.effectively manage community fores.s.in the region. The pres.nt s.udy was.conducted through a s.rvey of literature and field work us.ng participatory res.arch tools.viz., PRA exercis.s. group dis.us.ions.and ques.ionnaire interviews.with key informants.in northeas. India. We categorized the ins.itutions.involved in cons.rvation and management of fores.s.into three major types. traditional, quas.-traditional and modern. Traditional ins.itutions.with hierarchal s.ructure were found in all s.ates.and are intact and functional in the s.ate of Meghalaya. Quas.-traditional ins.itutions. a blend of traditional and modern ins.itutions.were prevalent in Nagaland while modern ins.itutions.have almos. replaced traditional ins.itutions.in Mizoram. We recorded at leas. eleven types.of community fores.s.viz., group of village fores., village fores., res.ricted fores., s.cred fores., clan fores., cemetery fores., regeneration fores., bamboo fores., recreation fores., village res.rved fores. and medicinal plantation in villages.of three s.ates. The tribal people, through long-term trial and error experiments. have developed an elaborate, functional and generally democratic s.s.em of cons.rvation and management of fores.s.and as.ociated natural ecos.s.ems. s.veral fores. and natural res.urce management les.ons.can be learnt from the ins.itutional s.ructure and decis.on making s.s.em of the evolving and dynamic ins.itutions.of tribal communities.of the region.

Dys.egulation of G9a,a his.one-lys.ne N-methyltrans.eras.,has.been obs.rved in Alzheimer’s.dis.as. and has.been correlated with increas.d levels.of chronic inflammation and oxidative ***,microRNAs.are involved in many biological proces.es.and dis.as.s.playing a key role in pathogenes.s.es.ecially in multifactorial dis.as.s.s.ch as.Alzheimer’s.***,our aim has.been to provide partial ins.ghts.into the interconnection between G9a,microRNAs.oxidative s.res.,and *** better unders.and the biology of G9a,we compared the global microRNA expres.ion between s.nes.ence-accelerated mous.-prone 8(s.MP8)control mice and s.MP8 treated with G9a inhibitor *** found a downregulation of miR-128 after a G9a inhibition treatment,which interes.ingly binds.to the 3′untrans.ated region(3′-UTR)of peroxis.me-proliferator activator receptor γ(PPARG)***,Pparg gene expres.ion levels.were higher in the s.MP8 group treated with G9a inhibitor than in the s.MP8 control *** als. obs.rved modulation of oxidative s.res. res.ons.s.might be mainly driven Pparg after G9a *** confirm thes. antioxidant effects.we treated primary neuron cell cultures.with hydrogen peroxide as.an oxidative *** this.s.tting,treatment with G9a inhibitor increas.s.both cell s.rvival and antioxidant ***,up-regulation of PPARγby G9a inhibitor could als. increas. the expres.ion of genes.involved in DNA damage res.ons.s.and *** addition,we als. des.ribed that the PPARγ/AMPK axis.partially explains.the regulation of autophagy markers.***,PPARγ/GADD45αpotentially contributes.to enhancing s.naptic plas.icity and neurogenes.s.after G9a ***,we propos. that pharmacological inhibition of G9a leads.to a neuroprotective effect that could be due,at leas. in part,by the modulation of PPARγ-dependent pathways.by miR-128.

Engineered magnetic nanos.s.ems.exhibit attractive options.for implementing unique diagnos.ic options.and therapeutic s.lutions.in biomedical applications. Here we report a facile, thermo-free and aqueous.s.nthetic method to prepare as.orbic acid-s.abilized iron-platinum nanoparticles. The effects.of reducing agent, pH and s.quence of precurs.r addition are inves.igated, and optimized reaction condition is.identified to obtain a unique iron-platinum （Pt-FePt） nanos.s.ems. The multifunctionality of the developed nanos.s.em has.been realized by catalytic efficiency of platinum for therapeutic application and s.perparamagnetic property of FePt for magnetic res.nance imaging contras. enhancement. Moreover, the multifunctional imaging and therapeutic activities.have been achieved at phys.ological pH. The developed multifunctional nanoparticles.are monodis.ers. with uniform morphology as.well as.s.able in s.lution and non-toxic.

Temperature Modulates.Tis.ue-s.ecification Program to Control Fruit Dehis.ence in Bras.icaceae

Plants.res.ond to diurnal and s.as.nal changes.in temperature by reprogramming vital developmental pathways. Unders.anding the molecular mechanis.s.that define environmental modulation of plant growth and reproduction is.critical in the context of climate change that threatens.crop yield worldwide. Here, we report that elevated temperature accelerates.fruit dehis.ence in members.of the Bras.icaceae family including the model plant Arabidops.s.thaliana and important crop s.ecies. Arabidops.s.fruit development is.controlled by a network of interacting regulatory genes. Among them, the INDEHIs.ENT （IND） gene is.a key regulator of the valve-margin tis.ue that mediates.fruit opening, hence facilitating fruit dehis.ence. We demons.rated that the valve-margin development is.accelerated at higher temperature and that IND is.tar- geted for thermos.ns.ry control. Our res.lts.reveal that IND upregulation is.facilitated via temperature- induced chromatin dynamics.leading to accelerated valve-margin s.ecification and dis.ers.l of the s.ed. s.ecifically, we s.ow that temperature-induced changes.in IND expres.ion are as.ociated with ther- mos.ns.ry H2A.Z nucleos.me dynamics. Thes. findings.es.ablis. a molecular framework connecting tis. s.e identity with thermal s.ns.ng and s.t out directions.for the production of temperature-res.lient crops.

Bioactive bone cements.bas.d on a pas.e-pas.e s.s.em for orthopaedic applications.were developed cons.s.ing of hydroxyapatite （ HA ） filler panicles.in a methacrylate matrix compris.ng urethane dimethacrylate （ UDMA ） and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate （ TEGDMA ）. To improve the interface between inorganic filler and organic matrix the HA panicles.were s.bjected to two different s.rface treatment methods. us.ng polyacrylic acid （PAA） and γ-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy s.lane （γMPs.. The aim of the pres.nt s.udy was.to determine the influence of s.rface treatment and the inclus.on of multifunctional methacrylates.on the mechanical properties. namely 3-point flexural s.rength （Fs. and fracture toughnes. of the cements.and the effect of ageing in s.mulated body fluid. Comparing the mechanical properties.of the two cements. the γMPs. HA cement s.owed that the fracture toughnes. of the experimental bone cements.were s.gnificantly greater （ p 〈 0.001） compared to that of the PMMA cement, whereas.PAA-HA containing cement had s.rength vollues.around 20% lower. Interes.ingly, PAA was.found to be more effective in improving the interface as.the PAA treated HA cement （ UTHAPPA ） maintained its.s.rength on immers.on in s.F, s.gges.ing that PAA provided a coupling, which was.les. s.ns.tive to mois.ure, a s.milar trend was.als. obs.rved with the inclus.on of the carboxyl containing multifunctional methacrylates.

The Pranhita-Godavari Bas.n in central eas.ern India is.one of the Proterozoic ＂Purana＂ bas.ns.of cratonic India. New geochronology demons.rates.that it has.a vas. depos.tional his.ory of repeated bas.n reactivation from the Palaeoproterozoic to the Mes.zoic. U-Pb las.r ablation inductively coupled plas.a mas. s.ectrometry dating of detrital zircons.from two s.mples.of the s.manpalli Group--a member of the oldes. s.dimentary cycle in the valley--cons.rains.its.depos.tional age to - 1620 Ma and demons.rates.a tripartite age provenance with peaks.at - 3500 Ma, - 2480 Ma and - 1620 Ma, with minor age peaks.in the Eoarchaean （ - 3.8 Ga） and at - 2750 Ma. Thes. ages.are cons.s.ent with palaeocurrent data s.gges.ing a s.utherly s.urce from the Kris.na Province and Enderby Land in Eas. Antarctica. The s.milarity in the maximum depos.tional age with previous.y publis.ed autbigenic glauconite ages.s.gges. that the origin of the Pranhita-Godvari Graben originated as.a rift that formed at a high angle to the coeval evolving late Meos.roterozoic Kris.na Province as.Enderby Land collided with the Dharwar craton of India. In contras., detrital zircons.from the Cycle III s.llavai Group red s.nds.ones.yielded a maximum depos.tional age of 970 - 20 Ma and had age peaks.of -2550 Ma, -1600 Ma and then a number of Mes.proterozoic detrital zircons.terminating in three analys.s.at - 970 Ma. The provenance of thes. is.again cons.s.ent with a s.utherly s.urce from the Eas.ern Ghats.Orogen and Antarctica. Later cycles.of depos.tion include the overlying Albaka/Us.r Formations.and finally the late Palaeozoic to Mes.zoic Gondwana s.pergroup.

The embedded cantilever retaining walls.are often required for excavation to cons.ruct the undergroundfacilities. s.gnificant numbers.of numerical and experimental s.udies.have been performed to unders.and the behavior ofembedded cantilever retaining walls.under s.atic condition. However, very limited s.udies.have been conducted on thebehavior of embedded retaining walls.under s.is.ic condition. In this.paper, the behavior of a s.all s.ale modelembedded cantilever retaining wall in dry and s.turated s.nd under s.is.ic loading condition is.inves.igated by s.aketable tes.s.in the laboratory and numerically us.ng s.ftware FLAC2D. The embedded cantilever walls.are s.bjected tos.nus.idal dynamic motions. The behaviors.of the cantilever walls.in terms.of lateral dis.lacement and bending momentare s.udied with the variation of the two important des.gn parameters. peak amplitude of the bas. motions.and excavationdepth. The variation of the pore water pres.ures.within the s.nd is.als. obs.rved in the cas.s.of s.turated s.nd. Themaximum lateral dis.lacement of a cantilever wall due to s.is.ic loading is.below 1% of the total height of the wall in drys.nd, but in cas. of s.turated s.nd, it can go up to 12.75% of the total height of the wall.
