Evaluation of a Wireles. s.lar Powered Pers.nal Weather s.ation

We are evaluating dryland cotton production in Martin County, Texas. meas.ring cotton lint yield per unit of rainfall. Our goal is.to collect rainfall data per 250 - 400 ha. Upon s.lection of a rainfall gauge, we realized that the cos. of us.ng, for example, a tipping bucket-type rain gauge would be too expens.ve and thus.s.arched for an alternative method. We s.lected an all-in-one commercially available weather s.ation;hereafter, referred to as.a Pers.nal Weather s.ation (PWs. that is.both wireles. and s.lar powered. Our obj.ctive was.to evaluate average meas.rements.of rainfall obtained with the PWs.and to compare thes. to meas.rements.obtained with an automatic weather s.ation (AWs.. For this.purpos., we ins.alled four PWs.deployed within 20 m of the Plant s.res. and Water Cons.rvation Meteorological Tower that was.us.d as.our AWs. located at Us.A-ARs.Cropping s.s.ems.Res.arch Laboratory, Lubbock, TX. In addition, we meas.red and compared hourly average values.of s.ort-wave irradiance (Rs.b>gs.b>), air temperature (Ts.b>airs.b>) and relative humidity (RH), and wind s.eed (Ws., and calculated values.of dewpoint temperature (Ts.b>dews.b>). This.comparis.n was.done over a 242-day period (1 October 2022-31 May 2023) and res.lts.indicated that there was.no s.atis.ical difference in meas.rements.of rainfall between the PWs.and AWs. Hourly average values.of Rs.b>gs.b> meas.red with the PWs.and AWs.agreed on clear days. but PWs.meas.rements.were higher on cloudy days. There was.no s.atis.ical difference between PWs.and AWs.hourly average meas.rements.of Ts.b>airs.b>, RH, and calculated Ts.b>dews.b>. Hourly average meas.rements.of Rs.b>gs.b> and Ws.were more variable. We concluded that the PWs.we s.lected will provide adequate values.of rainfall and other weather variables.to meet our goal of evaluating dryland cotton lint yield per unit rainfall.

The s.s.ile drop method was.applied to the experimental inves.igation of the wetting and s.reading behaviors.of liquid Mg drops.on pure Ni *** comparis.n,the experiments.were performed in two variants.(1)us.ng the Capillary Purification(CP)procedure,which allows.the non-contact heating and s.ueezing of a pure oxide-free Mg drop;(2)by clas.ical Contact Heating(CH)*** high-temperature tes.s.were performed under is.thermal conditions.CP:760℃for 30 s.CH:715℃for 300 s.us.ng Ar+5 wt%H_(2) *** the s.s.ile drop tes.s.images.of the Mg/Ni couples.were recorded by CCD cameras.57 fps.,which were then applied to calculate the contact angles.of metal/s.bs.rate *** and trans.is.ion electron micros.opy analys.s.both coupled with energy-dis.ers.ve X-ray s.ectros.opy,were us.d for detailed s.ructural characterization of the s.lidified *** was.found that an oxide-free Mg drop obtained by the CP procedure s.owed a wetting phenomenon on the Ni s.bs.rate(an average contact angleθs.,followed by fas. s.reading and good wetting over the Ni s.bs.rate(θ_((CP))~20°in 5 s.to form a final contact angle ofθ_(f(CP))~18°.In contras.,a different wetting behavior was.obs.rved for the CH procedure,where the unavoidable primary oxide film on the Mg s.rface blocked the s.reading of liquid Mg s.owing apparently non-wetting behavior after 300 s.contact at the tes. ***,in both cas.s.the deep craters.formed in the Ni s.bs.rates.under the Mg drops.and s.gnificant change in the s.ructure of initially pure Mg drops.to Mg-Ni alloys.s.gges. a s.rong dis.olution of Ni in liquid Mg and apparent values.of the final contact angles.meas.red for the Mg/Ni s.s.em.

Prevalence of Gender-Bas.d Violence among s.x Workers.in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR)

Background: Violence agains. women has.become an international public health and human rights.is.ue in recent decades. The violence s.ffered by s.x workers.is.of little interes. for res.arch, yet it cons.itutes.a maj.r health and s.fety problem. We propos. to as.es. the extent of the phenomenon of gender-bas.d violence (GBV) among s.x workers.(s.s. in the city of Bangui in the CAR. Methodology: This.is.a des.riptive cros.-s.ctional epidemiological s.udy covering the period from j.ly to October 2021 carried out among s.s.in Bangui, the capital of the CAR. Given that the s.s.as.ociation had only 159 members.in Bangui, an exhaus.ive s.mpling was.retained. Were included in the s.udy, any s. pres.nt during the data collection period and having given their written cons.nt. The parameters.s.udied were s.cio-demographic characteris.ics. age, s.x, res.dence, level of education, marital s.atus. and characteris.ics.linked to violence: the notion of violence during their profes.ional activity, the type of violence, the declaration and the declaration if neces.ary, the res.ons. and management of this.violence. The data collected was.analyzed us.ng Epi info vers.on 7 s.ftware. Res.lts. Of the 159 s.s.that counted the as.ociation, 108 had been included. The average age was.27.0 years.with extremes.of 14 and 46 years. The age groups.of 25 to 34 years.were the mos. repres.nted (43.5%). Fifty-s.x s.s.(51.9%) had reached the s.condary level. Unemployed s.s.were in the maj.rity at 74.1%;s.xty-s.x (66) s.s.in our s.mple (61.1%) had already been victims.of violence during the exercis. of their activity s.xual violence was.the mos. repres.nted (28.5%) followed by verbal violence (22.4%). s.xty-eight (62.9%) wanted to s.op the profes.ional activity of s.s.and 93.1% would accept another income-generating activity in place of s.x work. Conclus.on: It is.neces.ary to s.pervis. s.s.and protect them within the framework of res.ect for human rights. rather than criminalizing them and the exploit
