s.rface Energetics.s.udy and Determination of the Combined Negative Hamaker Coefficient for Hepatitis.C Virus.Infected Human Blood Cells

This.s.udy inves.igated the interactive effects.of Hepatitis.C virus.on human cells.us.ng the contact angle approach. The methodology involves.the us. of s.s.ile drop approach to determine the contact angle formed on the infected and uninfected blood cells.in the pres.nces.of glycerin as.the probe liquid. It was.obs.rved that the pres.nce of the virus.in the human blood cells.depleted the immune s.s.em of infected cells.giving ris. to a decreas.d CD4 count on the average of 514.5 ± 243.10 when compared with the uninfected cells.CD4 count of 1267.2 ± 368.27. The meas.rement of contact angle als. unveils.that among the blood components.s.parated in the cours. of the experiment, the white blood cell is.the principal target of the virus.with the highes. average contact angle of 63.4 ± 3.20 while the uninfected white blood cells.have a lower contact angle of 48.5 ± 2.75. The res.lt of the meas.red contact angle was.us.d for MATLAB computation to determine the s.rface energy, force of adhes.on and the Hamaker coefficient. Res.ons. s.rface methodology was.als. employed in this.s.udy to vis.alize the viral impact on the blood cells.as.well as.generating model equations.for prediction of the interaction between the virus.and the blood cells. Infected s.rfaces.on the average have higher values.of Hamaker coefficient than uninfected s.rfaces. It was.dis.overed that an increas. in the contact angles.caus.s.a s.gnificant increas. in Hamaker coefficient with a corres.onding decreas. in the CD4 counts.on the infected s.rfaces. This.increas. is.attributed to the pres.nce of the HCV virus.in the infected s.mples.and the highes. value was.obs.rved in the white blood cell component. Computation of the combined negative Hamaker coefficient revealed that there exis.s.a pos.ibility of s.parating the virus.from the human lymphocyte, hence a negative value of the A132 of the infected s.mple was.s.en to be &minus.0.150 × 10&minus.18 mJ/m2 (&minus.0.150 × 10&minus.25 J).
