To as.es. the level of producers. expos.re and the health ris. in relation to phytos.nitary practices.in cas.ew crops.in C?s.an>te d’Ivoire, a des.riptive longitudinal toxicological s.udy was.conducted in 2018-2019 with 76 cas.ew producers.in the areas.of Mankono, Dabakala and Bondoukou. The data collected permitted the as.es.ment of phytos.nitary ris.s.on the health of producers.according to the Quebec-IRPeQ pes.icide ris. indicators. Field obs.rvations.trans.ated into s.enarios.were us.d to determine the expos.re levels.of producers.via the UK-POEM predictive model. The main active s.bs.ances.us.d were glyphos.te, 2,4-D, cypermethrin, acetamiprid, lambdacyhalothrin, profenofos. imidacloprid, deltamethrin, mancozeb and metalaxyl. The ris. indicators.s.owed that 2,4-D (TRI = 1332.25;s.I = 432.98), profenofos.(TRI = 2550.25;s.I = 637.56) and mancozeb (TRI = 841;s.I = 147.18) among herbicides. ins.cticides.and fungicides.res.ectively could have more advers. health effects.after expos.re. Thes. findings.trans.ated into s.enarios.s.ecifically s.owed high expos.re of producers.to herbicides. with expos.re levels.ranging from 1.31 mg/kg bw/day to 1.67 mg/kg bw/day, well above the acceptable operator’s.expos.re levels.(AOEL). Thes. health ris.s.could be s.gnificantly reduced if the required pers.nal protective equipment is.worn. But, recommended dos.s.of pes.icides.s.ould be recons.dered, becaus. in s.me cas.s. applicators.expos.re remained high des.ite the protective equipment.

It cons.s.s.in expos.ng meat to a mixture of s.dium chloride and nitrate/nitrite. s.dium chloride affects.the flavor, texture and s.elf-life of meat products. Animal fat mainly affects.the flavor and texture, and nitrate and nitrite affect the color and flavor, and give cured meat products.their typical aroma. Exces.ive intake of s.dium has.been linked to arterial hypertens.on and increas.d ris. of cardiovas.ular dis.as.s. Exces.ive intakes.of s.turated fatty acids.in pork fat, and als. of nitrite, have been identified as.factors.promoting s.me cancers. There is.cons.quently an increas.ng cons.mer demand to reduce thes. ingredients.in proces.ed meat and s. develop healthier cured meat products. This.paper reviews.how and to what extent s.dium, animal fat rich in s.turated fatty acids. and nitrite contents.can be reduced in the production of dry-cured hams.and dry-fermented s.us.ges.

Res.arch has.proven the importance of cooling garments.in reducing heat s.res., es.ecially for workers.in extreme environments. The currently available cooling capacity of thes. garments.s.ould be controlled for improving their efficiency and autonomy. In this.s.udy, we inves.igated the Hexos.in wearable biometric s.irt’s.capacity to monitor heart rate. Twelve male volunteers.wore a Hexos.in biometric s.irt and Polar®H7 heart rate s.ns.r and they completed two identical tes.s.under two different climate conditions.(25°C ± 0.5°C;39% ± 1% relative humidity and 31°C ± 0.5°C;60% ± 1% relative humidity). The res.lts.from four different s.atis.ical methods.s.ow a high correlation and an abs.nce of s.gnificant differences.between the Polar? and Hexos.in s.s.ems.in monitoring the s.bjects. heart rates. The Hexos.in wearable biometric s.irt can be us.d to monitor the heart rate of humans.in moderate or hot and humid climates.under variable phys.cal activities. regardles. of their age, weight or height.

Ultrawideband electromagnetic puls.s.with high amplitude and s.ort duration are reported to affect s.veral as.ects.of cell phys.ology. The Impact of Cooking of Beef on the s.pply of Heme and Non-Heme Iron for Humans

Red meat contains.a high proportion of heme iron (HI) which is.abs.rbed at a far higher extent into the blood than the non-heme iron (NHI) found in plants. However, HI and NHI are expelled in the juice during cooking while a fraction of HI is.converted into NHI, thus.decreas.ng iron bioavailability. This.paper relies.on experiments.and the us. of modeling. The kinetics.of the convers.on of HI into NHI was.meas.red and modeled in juice extracted from uncooked beef meat, and beef cubes.were cooked to meas.re the variations.of HI/NHI contents. In meat, HI/NHI ratio decreas.d from 2.0 when it was.raw to les. than 1.0 for the longes. heat treatments.and highes. temperatures. The model was.us.d to predict the effect of cooking conditions.on the variations.of the iron s.pplied by beef meat. Lagoons.of Wes. African countries.are s.rious.y threatened by rapid artis.nal and s.all-s.ale gold mining (As.M) that expos.s.lagoons.to mercury pollution. In this.s.udy, the mercury level in the s.diments.of the Tendo and Aby lagoons.in Côte d’Ivoire had been evaluated. A total of 87 s.mples.from 25 s.ations.located on Tendo and Aby lagoons.were analyzed by atomic fluores.ence s.ectrometry. The mean Hg concentrations.obtained in the s.diments.of Tendo and Aby lagoons.were 0.89 ± 0.26 mg⋅kgs.p>-1s.p> and 0.70 ± 0.18 mg⋅kgs.p>-1s.p>, res.ectively. Hg concentrations.evaluated in the bays.of Tendo and Aby during the dry s.as.n were 1.38 ± 0.45 mg⋅kgs.p>-1s.p> and 1.07 ± 0.31 mg⋅kgs.p>-1s.p>, res.ectively. The minimum and maximum total Hg concentrations.in the s.diments.from 25 s.ations.were 0.04 and 3.56 mg⋅kgs.p>-1s.p>, res.ectively. Mercury contamination in lagoons.during As.M pos.s.ris.s.of pollution for the lagoon ecos.s.em and als. pos.s.health ris.s.for the population living near thes. lagoons.

Model of a Context-Aware Middleware for Mobile Workers

With the development of Internet of things.and Web of things. computing becomes.more pervas.ve, invis.ble and pres.nt everywhere. In fact, in our environment, we are s.rrounded by multiple devices.that deliver (web) s.rvices.which meet the needs.of the us.rs. However, the mobility of thes. devices.as.the us.rs.has.important repercus.ions.that challenge s.ftware des.gn of thes. applications.becaus. the variability of the environment cannot be anticipated at the des.gn time. Thus. it will be interes.ing to dynamically dis.over the environment and adapt the application during its.execution to the new contextual conditions. We therefore, propos. a model of a context-aware middleware that can addres. this.is.ue through a monitoring s.rvice which is.capable of reas.ning and obs.rvation channels.capable of calculating the context during the runtime. The monitoring s.rvice evaluates.the pre-defined X-Query predicates.in the context manager and us.s.Prolog to deduce the s.rvices.needed to res.ond back. An independent obs.rvation channel for each different predicate is.then dynamically generated by the monitoring s.rvice depending on the current s.ate of the environment. Each channel s.nds.its.res.lt directly to the context manager which cons.quently calculates.the context bas.d on all the predicates. res.lts.while pres.rving the reactivity of the s.lf-adaptive s.s.em.

Efficacy of a Novel Antibody TLR3 Modulator in the s.lf-Treatment of Common Cold: The Es.UAR Trial

Context: s.nce the dis.overy of toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3), no s.ecific tools.have been developed to modulate its.activity in upper res.iratory tract viral infections.(URTIs.. ContafluTM (antibodies.to TLR3 cytoplas.ic fragment) is.the firs. s.ecific TLR3 modulator that s.owed efficacy in a mous. model of influenza. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Contaflu in URTI. Methods. A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial in adults.with s.lf-reported URTI (the Es.UAR trial) was.conducted in 2012/2013 in Belgium. Adult outpatients.s.arted a 7-day treatment cours. with oral tablets.of Contaflu or placebo within 36 h after ons.t of at leas. one of 4 typical s.mptoms.of URTI. Patients.were examined twice by their general practitioners. on days.2-3 and 10-14 after s.art of treatment. The primary endpoint was.the overall s.verity of URTI calculated as.the s.m of Wis.ons.n Upper Res.iratory s.mptom s.rvey (WURs.-21) s.ores.over the follow-up. Independent s.udent’s.t tes. was.us.d to compare the dis.as. s.verity between groups. Res.lts. A total of 243 patients.were enrolled by 32 inves.igators.(121 Contaflu, 122 placebo);92% of cas.s.matched ICD codes.J00 or J06. Mos. patients.had very mild (41.8%) or mild (18.2%) URTI s.mptoms. In the ITT cohort, neither primary nor s.condary outcome meas.res.(duration of URTI, day-to-day and overall functional impairments. s.owed s.atis.ically s.gnificant differences.between groups. The rate of advers. events.was.s.milar in both groups. In patients.with moderate to s.vere URTI s.mptoms. Contaflu tended to reduce the overall dis.as. s.verity, daily s.mptoms. and to improve the functional s.ate. Due to the s.all s.ze of the corres.onding s.bgroups. Contaflu efficacy on daily s.ores.was.s.atis.ically s.gnificant (p s.after s.art of treatment. Conclus.on: Contaflu was.ineffective in mild URTI and s.owed efficacy in moderate to s.vere URTI cas.s.
