This.s.udy compares.micro-abras.ve wear in two kinds.of grey cas. iron. Clas.ical lamellar cas. iron with fully pearlitic matrix(FGL1) and lamellar micro-alloyed cas. iron with phos.horus.and boron(FGL2) are us.d. FGL2 has.a fully pearlitic matrix reinforced by the hard phos.horus.eutectic phas.. The micros.ructures.of thes. two types.of iron are mechanically characterized us.ng nanoindentation tes.s. Vickers.microindentation and micros.ratch tes.s.are als. performed on thes. iron s.mples. The indent and s.ratch images.obtained via s.anning electron micros.opy were us.d to compare the s.ratch damage to the two kinds.of iron. The friction coefficient is.dis.us.ed in terms.of applied load, indenter attack angle, and s.ratch damage. Nanoindentation tes.s.s.ow an improvement in graphite’s.mechanical properties.and an increas. in the matrix hardnes. of the FGL2, relatively to FGL1. The s.me damage forms.for both microindentation and micros.ratch tes.ing were obs.rved for the two iron s.mples. However, cracking of the hard phas. is.obs.rved in FGL2. The res.lts.s.ow that the s.ratching of the micro-alloyed iron(FGL2) leads.to les. matrix damage and to an extended microploughing wear mechanis.. However, at low normal load, the reinforcement of the matrix can increas. the friction coefficient.

The chemical looping reforming of methane through the nons.oichiometric ceria redox cycle(CeO2/CeO2-δ) has.been experimentally inves.igated in a directly irradiated s.lar reactor to convert both s.lar energy and methane to s.ngas.in the temperature range 900–1050 °C. Experiments.were carried out with different ceria s.apes.via two-s.ep redox cycling compos.d of endothermic partial reduction of ceria with methane and complete exothermic re-oxidation of reduced ceria with H2 O/CO2 at the s.me operating temperature, thereby demons.rating the capability to operate the cycle is.thermally. A parametric s.udy cons.dering different ceria macros.ructure variants.ceria packed powder, ceria packed powder mixed with inert Al2 O3 particles. and ceria reticulated porous.foam) and operating parameters.methane flow-rate, reduction temperature, or s.ntering temperature) was.conducted in order to unravel their impact on the bed-averaged oxygen non-s.oichiometry(δ), s.ngas.yield, methane convers.on, and s.lar reactor performance. The ceria cycling s.ability was.als. experimentally inves.igated to demons.rate repeatable s.ngas.production by alternating the flow between CH4 and H2 O(or CO2). A decreas. in s.ntering temperature of the ceria foam was.beneficial for increas.ng s.ngas.s.lectivity, methane convers.on,and reactor performance. Increas.ng both CH4 concentration and reduction temperature enhanced δ with the maximum value up to 0.41 but concomitantly favored CH4 cracking reaction. The ceria reticulated porous.foam s.owed better performance in terms.of effective heat trans.er, due to volumetric abs.rption of concentrated s.lar radiation and uniform heating with lower s.lar power cons.mption, thereby promoting the s.lar-to-fuel energy convers.on efficiency that reached up to 5.60%. The energy upgrade factor achieved during cycle was.up to 1.19. s.able patterns.in the δ and s.ngas.yield for cons.cutive cycles.with the ceria foam validated material performance s.ability.

Wet air oxidation （WAO） and catalytic wet air oxidation （CWAO） of s.aughtered animal byproducts.（ABPs. were inves.igated. Two s.ep experiment was.carried out cons.s.ing of a non-catalys.d WAO run followed by a CWAO run at 170-275 ℃, 20 MPa, and reaction time 180 min. The WAO （ls. s.ep） of s.mple （5 g/L total organic carbon （TOC）） yielded （82.0 ±4）% TOC removal and （78.4 ± 13.2）% convers.on of the initial organic-N into NH4＋-N. Four metal catalys.s.（Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru） s.pported over alumina have been tes.ed in catalytic WAO （2nd s.ep） at elevated pH to enhance ammonia convers.on and organic matter removal, particularly acetic acid. It was.found that the catalys.s.Ru, Pt, and Rh had s.gnificant effects.on the TOC removal （95.1%, 99.5% and 96.7%, res.ectively） and on the abatement of ammonia （93.4%, 96.7% and 96.3%, res.ectively） with high nitrogen s.lectivity. The catalys. Pd was.found to have the les. activity while Pt had the bes. performance. The X-Ray diffraction analys.s.s.owed that the s.pport of catalys. was.not s.able under the experimental conditions.s.nce it reacted with phos.hate pres.nt in s.lution. Nitrite and nitrate ions.were monitored during the oxidation reaction and it was.concluded that CWAO of ammonia in real was.e treatment framework was.in good agreement with the res.lts.obtained from the literature for ideal s.lutions.of ammonia.

We s.udied late-entry commercial thinning effects.on growth, yield, and regeneration in a 48-year-old jack pine(Pinus.banks.ana Lamb.) s.and. Applied thinning intens.ties.were 27, 32, and 47% of merchantable bas.l area(BA) excluding s.idding trails. After 15 years. mean diameter at breas. height of s.rviving trees.in the 47% BA removal increas.d by 4.9 cm(25%) compared to the unthinned control. The 47% BA removal als. increas.d gros. merchantable volume(GMV) tree-1by 46% compared to the control. The 27% BA removal had twice as.much GMV ha-1compared to the 47% BA removal after15 years. Moreover, cumulative GMV ha-1was.much higher in the 27% BA removal than in the unthinned control. The highes. thinning intens.ty produced larger trees.on average, while the lowes. thinning intens.ty maximized volume production per hectare. Maintenance of acceptable growing s.ock throughout the 15-year period in the 27% BA removal could provide other ecos.s.em functions.s.ch as.biodivers.ty enhancement or wildlife habitat by delaying s.nes.ence. Regeneration data s.owed that a s.ift in s.ecies.compos.tion occurred in the unders.ory. After 15 years. the unders.ory was.dominated by black s.ruce(Picea mariana(Mill.) B.s.P.), white birch(Betula papyrifera Mars..), and trembling as.en(Populus.tremuloides.Michx.). If regenerating jack pine is.an objective after final overs.ory removal, additional efforts.will be needed to re-es.ablis. this.s.ecies.
