The below-cloud aerosol scavenging process by precipitation is one of the most important mechanisms to remove aerosols from the *** to its complexity and dependence on both aerosol and raindrop sizes,wet scavenging process has been poorly treated,especially during the removal of fine *** makes the numerical simulation of below-cloud scavenging in large-scale aerosolmodels *** consider the slip effects of submicron particles,a simplified expression for the diffusion scavenging was developed by approximating the Cunningham slip correction *** derived analytic solution was parameterized as a simple power function of rain intensity under the assumption of the lognormal size distribution of *** resultant approximated expression was compared to the observed data and the results of previous studies including a 3D atmospheric chemical transport model *** with the default gEOs-Chem coefficient of 0.00106R0.61 and the observation-based coefficient of 0.0144R0.9268,the coefficient of a and b in∧m=aRb spread in the range of 0.0002-0.1959 for a and 0.3261-0.525 for b over a size distribution of gsD of 1.3–2.5 and a geometric mean diameter of 0.01-2.5μ***,this study showed that the scavenging coefficient varies widely by orders of magnitude according to the size distribution of particles and rain *** study also demonstrated that the obtained simplified expression could consider the theoretical approach of aerosol *** proposed analytic approach showed that results can be effectively applied for reduced computational burden in atmospheric modeling.

To overcome the serious technological issues affecting lithium-sulfur(Li-s) batteries,such as sluggish sulfur redox kinetics and the detrimental shuttle effect,heterostructure engineering has been investigated as a strategy to effectively capture soluble lithium polysulfide intermediates and promote their conversion reaction by integrating highly polar metal oxides with catalytically active metals ***,to fully exploit the outstanding properties of heterostructure-based composites,their detailed structure and interfacial contacts should be designed ***,optimally arranged TiO_(2)and Mos_(2)-based heterostructures(TiO_(2)@Mos_(2)) are fabricated on carbon cloth as a multifunctional interlayer to efficiently trap polysulfide intermediates and accelerate their redox *** to the synergistic effects between TiO_(2)and Mos_(2)and the uniform heterointerface distribution that induces the ideally oriented built-in electric field,Li-s batteries with TiO_(2)@Mos_(2)interlayers exhibit high rate capability(601 mA h g^(-1)at 5 C),good cycling stability(capacity-fade rate of 0.067% per cycle over 500 cycles at2 C),and satisfactory areal capacity(5.2 mA h cm^(-2)) under an increased sulfur loading of 5.2 mg cm^(-2).Moreover,by comparing with a Mos_(2)@TiO_(2)interlayer composed of reversely arranged heterostructures,the effect of the built-in electric field’s direction on the electrocatalytic reactions of polysulfide intermediates is thoroughly investigated for the first *** superior electrocatalytic activities of the rationally arranged TiO_(2)@Mos_(2)interlayer demonstrate the importance of optimizing the built-in electric field of heterostructures for producing high-performance Li-s batteries.

Although bismuth vanadate(BiVO4)has been promising as photoanode material for photoelectrochemical water splitting,its charge recombination issue by short charge diffusion length has led to various studies about heterostructure *** a hole blocking layer of BiVO4,titanium dioxide(TiO_(2)) has been considered unsuitable because of its relatively positive valence band edge and low electrical ***,a crystal facet engineering of TiO_(2) nanostructures is proposed to control band structures for the hole blocking layer of BiVO4 *** design two types of TiO_(2) nanostructures,which are nanorods(NRs)and nanoflowers(NFs)with different(001)and(110)crystal facets,respectively,and fabricate BiVO4/TiO_(2) heterostructure *** BiVO4/TiO_(2) NFs showed 4.8 times higher photocurrent density than the BiVO4/TiO_(2) *** decay time analysis and time-resolved photoluminescence reveal the enhancement is attributed to the reduced charge recombination,which is originated from the formation of type II band alignment between BiVO4 nanodots and TiO_(2) *** work provides not only new insights into the interplay between crystal facets and band structures but also important steps for the design of highly efficient photoelectrodes.

We investigate the effect of ion irradiation on MgB_(2) thin films with small grains of approximately 122 nm and 140 *** flux pinning by grain boundaries is insignificant in the pristine MgB_(2) films due to good inter-grain connectivity,but is significantly improved after 120-keV Mn-ion *** scaling behavior of the flux pinning force density for the ion-irradiated MgB_(2) thin films with nanoscale grains demonstrates the predominance of pinning by grain boundaries,in contrast to the single-crystalline MgB_(2) films where normal point pinning was dominant after low-energy ion *** results suggest that irradiation-induced defects can accumulate near the grain boundaries in metallic MgB_(2) superconductors.

Reactive oxygen signaling regulates numerous biological processes,including stress responses in *** sensors transduce reactive oxygen signals into cellular ***,we present biochemical evidence that a plant quiescin sulfhydryl oxidase homolog(QsOX1)is a redox sensor that negatively regulates plant immunity against a bacterial *** expression level of QsOX1 is inversely correlated with pathogen-induced reactive oxygen species(ROs)***,QsOX1 both senses and regulates ROs levels by interactingn with and mediating redox regulation of s-nitrosoglutathione reductase,which,consistent with previous findings,influences reactive nitrogen-mediated regulation of ROs ***,our data indicate that QsOX1 is a redox sensorthat negatively regulates plant immunity by linking reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen signaling to limit ROs production.

Williams syndrome(Ws)is a rare multisystemic disorder caused by recurrent microdeletions on 7q11.23,characterized by intellectual disability,distinctive craniofacial and dental features,and cardiovascular *** studies have explored the roles of individual genes within these microdeletions in contributing to Ws ***,we report five patients with Ws with 1.4 Mb-1.5 Mb microdeletions that include RFC2,as well as one patient with a 167-kb microdeletion involving RFC2 and six patients with intragenic variants within *** investigate the potential involvement of RFC2 in Ws pathogenicity,we generate a rfc2 knockout(KO)zebrafish using CRIsPR-Cas9 ***,we generate a KO zebrafish of its paralog gene,rfc5,to better understand the functions of these RFC genes in development and *** rfc2 and rfc5 KO zebrafish exhibit similar phenotypes reminiscent of Ws,including small head and brain,jaw and dental defects,and vascular ***-seq analysis reveals that genes associated with neural cell survival and differentiation are specifically affected in rfc2 KO *** addition,heterozygous rfc2 KO adult zebrafish demonstrate an anxiety-like behavior with increased social *** results suggest that RFC2 may contribute to the pathogenicity of Ws,as evidenced by the zebrafish model.

Background There are limited data comparing long-term clinical outcomes between first-generation (1g) and second-generation (2g) drug-eluting stents (DEss) in patients who underwent successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO) lesion. Methods A total of 840 consecutive patients who underwent PCI with DEss for CTO lesion from january 2004 to November 2015 were enrolled. Finally, a total of 324 eligible CTO patients received 1g-DEs (Paclitaxel-eluting stent or sirolimus-eluting stent, n = 157) or 2g-DEs (Zotarolimus-eluting stent or Everolimus-eluting stent, n = 167) were enrolled. The clinical endpoint was the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) defined as all-cause death, recurrent myocardial infarction (re-MI), total repeat revascularization [target lesion revascularization (TLR), target vessel revascularization (TVR), and non-TVR]. We investigated the 5-year major clinical outcomes between 1g-DEs and 2g-DEs in patient who underwent successful CTO PCI. Results After propensity score matched (PsM) analysis, two well-balanced groups (111 pairs, n = 222, C-statistic = 0.718) were generated. Up to the 5-year follow-up period, the cumulative incidence of all-cause death, re-MI, TLR, TVR and non-TVR were not significantly different between the two groups. Finally, MACE was also similar between the two groups (HR = 1.557, 95% CI: 0.820–2.959, P = 0.176) after PsM. Conclusions In this study, 2g-DEs was not associated with reduced long-term MACE compared with 1g-DEs following successful CTO revascularization up to five years.

Dear Editor,Plant tissue culture involves callus formation and de novo shoot ***,explants from differentiated tissues are used to generate a pluripotent cell mass,called callus,on auxin-rich callus-inducing medium(CIM),followed by shoot regeneration on cytokinin-rich shoot-inducing medium(siM).Callus results from division of pericycle-like cells(Atta et al.,2009;sugimoto et al.,2010);its cellular identity resembles that of lateral root primordia(Atta et al.,2009;sugimoto et al.,2010).Callus acquires cellular pluripotency by forming root stem cell niches on CIM(sugimoto et al.,2010)。
