Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease may not be a severe disease at presentation among Asian Indians

AIM： To evaluate the clinical and biochemical profile of patients with non alcoholic fatty liver disease （NAFLD） and to assess their histological severity at ***： Consecutive patients presenting to the liver clinic of All India Institute of Medical sciences （AIIMs） with raised transaminases to at least 1.5 times upper limit of normal, and histologically confirmed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease were included. Patients who had significant alcohol intake or positive markers of other liver diseases or who were taking drugs known to produce fatty liver were excluded. The clinical, biochemical and histological profile of this group was studied. REsULTs： Fifty-one patients with NAFLD formed the study population. Their median age and BMI were 34（17-58） years and 26.7（21.3-32.5） kg/m^2 respectively and 46 （90.1%） were males. The majority of the patients had mild inflammation, either grade 1 [32 （63%）] or grade 2 [16 （31%）] and only 3 （6%） patients had severe （grade 3） inflammation. Twenty-three （45%）, 19 （37%）, 8（16%） and 1（2%） patient had stage 0, 1, 2 and 3 fibrosis respectively on index biopsy and none had cirrhosis. On univariate analysis, triglyceride levels more than 150 mg % （OR = 7.1; 95% CI： 1.6-31.5, P = 0.002） and AsT ALT ratio 〉 1 （OR = 14.3; 95% CI： 1.4-678.5, P = 0.008） were associated with high grades of inflammation and none was associated with advanced fibrosis. On multivariate logistic regression analysis, hypertriglyceridemia 〉150 mg% was the only factor independently associated with presence of high grade of inflammation （OR = 1.6; 95% CI： 1.3-22.7, P =0.02）, while none was associated with advanced fibrosis. Triglyceride levels correlated positively with inflammatory grade （r = 0.412; P = 0.003）. CONCLUsION： NAFLD in North Indian patients is a disease of young over-weight males, most of whom are insulin resistant and they tend to have a mild histological disease at presentation.

socialization is a process of accommodation,assimilation,and acculturation of exotic ideas and stimuli for an inevitable internalization with the in-situ *** doing this,a core-periphery contradiction happens to be an inevitable *** present paper examines the change dynamic of settlement pattern and livelihood evolution of peripheral dwellers of kalyani *** dwellers are mainly an emigrant from Bangladesh,a neighboring country of *** are not only biological migrants but also a vector of cultural changes and livelihood *** different architectural components have started flowing into their life style,housing pattern,home innovations,settlement patterns,food habits,words of communication,rituals,and script.A change in architecture as a resultant to migration has got tremendous rippling effect on the recipient community,here at *** social osmosis between core and peripheral populace has laid the path way for heterophile interaction,along and across the spatial distribution of income,education,livelihood,resource,and gender *** physical accommodation of some cultural tenets may not signify the intrinsic *** other way round,the intrinsic assimilation may not have extrinsic *** livelihood analysis has certainly shown that the unique social osmosis process here at kalyani has not only resulted into a structural change but also has added a functional change to foster the process of *** elements of cross cultural communication have rightly been found discernible over the cliché of so called urbanization process.

The rate of urbanization in India is having a spate against each week *** rural areas in India are undergoing the process of agricultural modernization vis-à-vis urbanization and are displaying a unique case to study the rubranisation *** rate of urbanization in India is ranging from 20 per cent to 60 per cent to depict the scale and panorama of the very *** entry of hybrid seed,modern agricultural implements,television,and cable network,information technology（IT） inputs,and highway networking have transformed the pristine rural life into a complex rubranite life *** paper is examining the impact of this urbanization process in a typical rubranite township,kalyani,just 55 kilometers away from a huge city,*** tribal population of this township is now in the process of modernizing their traditional thatches in to a pucca building（concrete house structure）.And in doing this,they are accessing electricity,refrigeration system,motor bikes,television,fan,and modern toilet *** changes in the architecture followed in these modern houses are *** classical designs of earth work are now transcripted into cement work,while the erstwhile life patterns have been *** participatory rural appraisal（PRA） tools used in this study would certainly reveal the reasons and factors of these architectural changes that happening in a response to this urbanization *** of the PRA tools used here are Matrix Ranking,Venn diagram,Time Trend and Time Line Analysis,Causal Diagram to elaborately describe the pattern,direction,and dimension of changes.

High affinity mouse-human chimeric Fab against Hepatitis B surface antigen

AIM： Passive immunotherapy using antibody against hepatitis B surface antigen （HBsAg） has been advocated in certain cases of Hepatitis B infection. We had earlier reported on the cloning and expression of a high affinity scFv derived from a mouse monoclonal （5s） against HBsAg. However this mouse antibody cannot be used for therapeutic purposes as it may elicit anti-mouse immune responses. Chimerization by replacing mouse constant domains with human ones can reduce the immunogenicity of this antibody.METHODs： We cloned the VH and V, genes of this mouse antibody, and fused them with CH1 domain of human IgG1 and C, domain of human kappa chain respectively. These chimeric genes were cloned into a phagemid vector. After initial screening using the phage display system, the chimeric Fab was expressed in soluble form in E. coli.REsULTs： The chimeric Fab was purified from the bacterial periplasmic extract. We characterized the chimeric Fab using several in vitro techniques and it was observed that the chimeric molecule retained the high affinity and specificity of the original mouse monoclonal. This chimeric antibody fragment was further expressed in different strains of E. coli to increase the yield.CONCLUsION： We have generated a mouse-human chimeric Fab against HBsAg without any significant loss in binding and epitope specificity. This chimeric Fab fragment can be further modified to generate a fulllength chimeric antibody for therapeutic uses.

Analysis and characterization of wind-solar-constant torque spring hybridized model

solar and wind are the most promising renewable energy resources. But their unpredictable and varying nature prevents them from being used as the sole resource for power generation. This paper presents a model of wind and solar thermal hybrid power plant with a spring storage system which is expected to play an efficient role in combating with the drawbacks related to renewable power generation. In the proposed scheme, wind energy is harnessed by a hybrid vertical axis wind turbine, solar energy is utilized by a stifling engine, and the surplus energy is stored in a winding spring. The paper discusses the working methodologies and analyses the performance of such 2.6 kW hybrid power plant model. It has been observed that the plant is capable of consistently generating 50% of its rated capacity irrespective of limitations in solar and wind resources.

Vibration of an infinite inhomogeneous transversely isotropic viscoelastic medium with cylindrical hole

This paper investigates the influences of higher order viscoelasticity and the inhomogeneities of the transversely isotropic elastic parameters on the disturbances in an infinite medium, caused by the presence of a transient radial force or twist on the surface of a cylindrical hole with circular cross section. Following Voigt＇s model for higher order viscoelasticity, the nonvanishing stress components valid for a transversely isotropic and higher order viscoelastic solid medium have been deduced in terms of radial displacement component. Considering the power law variation of elastic and viscoelastic parameters, the stress equation of motion has been developed. solving this equation under suitable boundary conditions, due to transient forces and twists, radial displacement and relevant stress components have been determined in terms of modified Bessel functions. The problem for the presence of transient radial force has been numerically analysed. Modulations of displacement and stresses due to different order of viscoelasticity and inhomogeneity have been graphically depicted. The numerical study of the disturbance caused by the presence of twist on the surface may be similarly done but is not pursued in this paper.

MHD flow of a visco-elastic fluid through a porous medium between infinite parallel plates with time dependent suction

This work provides a comprehensive theoretical analysis of MHD unsteady free convection viscoelastic fluid flow through a porous medium. The medium is treated as incompressible and optically transparent. The flow of the fluid is initiated by shearing action of the moving wall with time dependent suction. Radiative heat flow is considered in temperature equation. The coupled nonlinear problem has been solved asymptotically. Approximate solutions have been obtained for the mean velocity, mean temperature using multi parameter perturbation technique. The originality of the present study is to investigate the effect of viscoelastic property of the fluid（Walters B？ model） on the flow and heat transfer phenomena when the flow is permeated through a porous medium with uniform porous matrix subject to transverse magnetic field and time dependent fluctuative suction at the boundary surface. The case of viscous flow has been discussed as a particular case on comparison with the result reported earlier and it is in good agreement. Flow reversal is indicated incase of viscoelastic fluid with high heat capacity in the presence of magnetic field. The higher cooling of the plate in case of viscoelastic flow also causes a flow reversal.

From Dislocation Motion to an Additive Velocity Gradient Decomposition, and some simple Models of Dislocation Dynamics

A mathematical theory of time-dependent dislocation mechanics of unrestricted geometric and material nonlinearity is reviewed. Within a "small deformation" setting, a suite of simplified and interesting models consisting of a nonlocal Ginzburg Landau equation, a nonlocal level set equation, and a nonlocal generalized Burgers equation is *** the finite deformation setting, it is shown that an additive decomposition of the total velocity gradient into elastic and plastic parts emerges naturally from a micromechanical starting point that involves no notion of plastic deformation but only the elastic distortion,material velocity, dislocation density and the dislocation velocity. Moreover, a plastic spin tensor emerges naturally as well.

Adsorption kinetics of the herbicide safeners,benoxacor and furilazole,to activated carbon and agricultural soils

Chloroacetamide herbicides,namely acetochlor and metolachlor,are common herbicides used on corn and soybean *** safeners,namely benoxacor and furilazole,are commonly used in formulations containing chloroacetamide *** reports on adsorption of chloroacetamide herbicides are available,yet little information exists regarding adsorption potential of co-applied ***,the adsorption and desorption characteristics of selected herbicide safeners to granular activated carbon(GAC) and in agricultural soils are ***,soil column studies were performed to understand the leaching behaviour of the herbicide Dual II *** sorption experiments of safeners to three agricultural soils and one GAC showed that adsorption was best fitted by the Freundlich *** Freundlich adsorption constant,kf,for benoxacor and furilazole sorption onto three agricultural soils ranged from0.1 to 0.27 and 0.1 to 0.13(mg/g) x(mg/L)(1/n),*** kf for benoxacor and furilazole to GAC was 6.4 and 3.4(mg/g) x(mg/L)(1/n),respectively,suggesting more favorable sorption of benoxacor to GAC than furilazole to *** sorption to soils was reversible as almost 40%-90% of both safeners was desorbed from three *** results were validated in four replicated soil column studies,where s-metolachlor was shown to leach similarly to the safener benoxacor,originating from the herbicide *** leaching of s-metolachlor and benoxacor was influenced by soil ***,these results show that safeners will move through the environment to surface waters similarly to the active ingredients in herbicides,but may be removed during drinking water treatment via GAC.
