Implementation of a simulation Model of the Controlled Release of Molecular species from Halloysite Nanotubes

In this work a three-dimensional, time-quantified Monte Carlo model that efficiently describes diffusion through and from nanotubes is implemented. Controlled delivery from Halloysite Nano-tubes (HNT) is modeled based on interactions between the HNT’s inner wall and the nanoparticles (NPs) and among NPs themselves. The model was validated using published experimental data. The validated model is then used to study the effect of multiples parameter like HNT diameter and length, particle charge, and ambient temperature on the release of encapsulated NPs. The results show that release profiles depend on the size distribution of the HNT batch used for the experiment, as delivery is sensitive to HNT lumen and length. A very good agreement with the experiment is observed when a weighted average release profile is compared to the experimental profile. Although the NP dynamics is temperature-dependent, the effect is minimum within the range of temperatures relevant to biomedical applications, but will be relevant for other applications at temperatures significantly different from room temperature. This model can be used to predict the best conditions for a particular delivery need.

目的:研究黏弹物质小管切开术和超声黏弹物质小管切开术治疗眼压失控的成功率及并发症。在Nd:YAG前房角穿刺后,检测并发症及结果。方法:评估1a内进行黏弹物质小管切开术和超声黏弹物质小管切开术时收集预期的数据。除此之外,Nd:YAG激光房角穿孔术(LGP)应用于术后任何时期的眼压失控。结果:符合纳入条件并能获得随访数据者100眼。76%(76眼)完全成功(未经青光眼治疗眼内压≤18mmHg),88%(88眼)合格成功(眼内压≤18mmHg,伴或者不伴永久性青光眼的治疗)。63%(63眼)在未用药的情况下眼内压下降了30%,67%(67眼)伴或者不伴有永久性青光眼的治疗。Kaplan-Meier生存分析建议超声黏弹物质小管切开术在未用药的情况下把眼压降到18mmHg,时序检验P=0.005。16眼在不同的时间点需要术后激光房角穿孔,大多数在术后6mo发作。平均眼内压术后减少24.8%(P=0.0002)。激光房角穿孔术后第12mo未经治疗的眼内压小于18mmHg的达到94%(15眼)。所有患者在激光房角穿孔术后至少3mo眼内压保持下降趋势,后期将继续进行随访。结论:我们的数据显示黏弹物质小管切开术和超声黏弹物质小管切开术在这随访1a内能成功控制眼内压。Nd:YAG激光房角穿孔术在降低和保持眼内压方面也很有成效。几乎没有并发症。

For the first time we report quantitative structure activity relationship (QsAR) studies based on Kier-Hall Electrotopological state (E-state) Indices for Dihydroalkoxybenzyloxopyrimidines (DABO) derivatives acting as NNRTIs of HIV-1. A dataset of 74 compounds was compiled from published studies and randomly subdivided into training and test sets. To understand the pharmacophoric effect, Kier-Hall Electrotopological state descriptors namely sN1, sN3, sF, sAr, ss, sO, sNO2, sCl, sY (Y = s-alkyl and NH-alkyl), sX (X = Me) and biological activity were used as independent and dependent variable respectively. statistical results were highly encouraging for the training set multiple linear regression [(MLR): r2 = 0.961, F = 100.41 and q2 = 0.926, neural networks (NN): r2 = 0.966, F = 115.594, degrees of freedom = 40 and k-nearest neighbour (k-NN): r2 = 0.770, q2 = 0.757, degrees of freedom = 40]. Results of validation using a test set showed the same trend as training set (NN > MLR > kNN). The above results suggest that of various functional groups present in DABO such as sN3, sO, sCl, sAr and sNO2 contribute more significantly towards activity. On the other hand sN1, ss, and sF do not play any role in enhancing the activity. The substitution of s-alkyl and NH-alkyl at C2 position is essential though it does not contribute much towards the activity. The substitution of methyl group at C5 position is unfavorable and exhibit negative impact on inhibitory activity. Therefore, it seems reasonable to choose E-state indices as suitable and significant descriptors for exploring the relationship between the pIC50 and the pharmacological properties of the compounds.

The effect of 24-epibrassinolide on growth of pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] under aluminium toxicity was studied. 24-EBL reduced the impact of Al stress on plant growth. Particularly 24-EBL reduced the inhibitory impact of aluminium toxicity on root growth which was further manifested in overall improvement of vegetative growth. Application of 24-epibrassinolide removed the inhibitory influence of Al nodulation. The growth stimulation in Cajanus plants by 24-EBL under Al stress was associated with elevated levels of chlorophylls, nucleic acids and soluble proteins. 24-Epibrassinolide application enhanced proline content in Alsup>3+sup> stressed Cajanus plants. Further, the supplementation of 24-epibrassinolide to Al stress treatments increased the activities of antioxidative enzymes viz., catalase [EC 1.***.1.6];peroxidase [EC 1.***.1.7];superoxide dismutase [EC 1.***.1.1] and ascorbate peroxidase [EC 1.***.1.11]. Lipid peroxidation induced by Al was found reduced with the supplementation of 24-epibrassinolide. The present studies demonstrated the ameliorating capability of 24-epibrassinolide on the Al induced inhibition of plant growth of C. cajan.

Objective:To analyse the phytochemicals,elements and evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Caulerpa scalpelliformis(***)against different bacterial and fungal ***:For the elemental analysis and the screening of phytochemicals,some common and available standard tests were *** antimicrobial activity was done through the agar well diffusion ***:In the qualitative phytochemical screening,among the five different solvent extracts of ***,the benzene extract showed a maximum number of compounds such as tannins,flavanoids,glycosides,phenols,saponins,terpenoids,*** quantitative analysis showed the total protein,total carbohydrate and total lipid content to be(15.86±1.13)%w/w,(10.32±0.94)%w/w,and(1.05±0.08)%w/w *** antibacterial activity showed a maximum zone of inhibition(15±0.18)mm and a minimum zone of inhibition(6±0.05)mm in the benzene extract of *** exhibited against serratia marcescens and Bacillus *** antifungal assay of *** showed the benzene extract rendered a maximum activity(20±0.25)mm against Aspergillus terreus whereas a minimum activity(12±0.14)mm obtained in the chloroform extract against Aspergillus ***:Our findings provide the evidence that the benzene extract of *** possesses the good antimicrobial activity and hence the algae proves to be an effective therapeutic agent.

Hemoptysis is an uncommon but distressing symptom in children. It poses a diagnostic challenge as it is difficult to elicit a clear history and perform thorough physical examination in a child. The cause of hemoptysis in children can vary with the child's age. It can range from infection, milk protein allergy and congenital heart disease in early childhood, to vasculitis, bronchial tumor and bronchiectasis in older children. Acute lower respiratory tract infections are the most common cause of pediatric hemoptysis. The objective of imaging is to identify the source of bleeding, underlying primary cause, and serve as a roadmap for invasive procedures. Hemoptysis originates primarily from the bronchial arteries. The imaging modalities available for the diagnostic evaluation of hemoptysis include chest radiography, multi-detector computed tomography(MDCT), magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and catheter angiography. Chest radiography is the initial screening tool. It can help in lateralizing the bleeding with high degree of accuracy and can detect several parenchymal and pleural abnormalities. However, it may be normal in up to 30% cases. MDCT is a rapid, non-invasive multiplanar imaging modality. It aids in evaluation of hemoptysis by depiction of underlying disease, assessment of consequences of hemorrhage and provides panoramic view of the thoracic vasculature. The various structures which need to be assessed carefully include the pulmonary parenchyma, tracheobronchial tree, pulmonary arteries, bronchial arteries and non-bronchial systemic arteries. since the use of MDCT entails radiation exposure, optimal low dose protocols should be used so as to keep radiation dose as low as reasonably achievable. MRI and catheter angiography have limited application.

Background: Rapid steroid withdrawal (RsW) is used increasingly in kidney transplantation but long-term outcomes in African-American (AA) recipients are not well known. We compared 1 and 5 year transplant outcomes in a large cohort of AA patients who were maintained on continued steroid therapy (CsT) to those who underwent RsW. Methods: Post-transplant courses of A as receiving kidney allografts from 2003-2011 at two urban transplant centers in Chicago were followed. Prior to outcome analysis, we used Inverse Probability of Treatment Weights (IPTW) to match the two groups on a set of baseline risk factors. Graft and patient survival, GFR at 1 and 5 years, incidence and type of rejection, incidence of post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM), delayed graft function, CMV and BK viremia were compared. Results: There were 150 AA recipients in the CsT analytic group and 157 in the RsW analytic group. Graft and patient survival was similar between the two groups. Rates of CMV viremia were higher in the RsW compared to the CsT analytic group at 1 year. Biopsy-proven acute rejection and PTDM were similar between the RsW and CsT groups. Conclusions: In AA recipients, RsW has similar long-term outcomes to CsT.
