Using computed tomography scans to develop an ex-vivo gastric model

The objective of this research was to use abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans to non-invasively quantify anthropometrical data of the human stomach and to concomitantly create an anatomically correct and distensible ex-vivo gastric model. Thirty-three abdominal CT scans of human subjects were obtained and were imported into reconstruction software to generate 3D models of the stomachs. Anthropometrical data such as gastric wall thickness, gastric surface area and gastric volume were subsequently quantified. A representative 3D computer model was exported into a selective laser sintering (sLs) rapid prototyping machine to create an anatomically correct solid gastric model. subsequently, a replica wax template of the sLs model was created. A negative mould was offset around the wax template such that the offset distance was equivalent to that of the gastric wall thickness. A silicone with similar mechanical properties to the human stomach was poured into the offset. The lost wax manufacturing technique was employed to create a hollow distensible stomach model. 3D computer gastric models were generated from the CT scans. A hollow distensible silicone ex-vivo gastric model with similar compliance to that of the human stomach was created. The anthropometrical data indicated that there is no significant relationship between BMI and gastric surface area or gastric volume. There were inter- and intra-group differences between groups with respect to gastric wall thickness. This study demonstrates that abdominal CT scans can be used to both non-invasively determine gastric anthropometrical data as well as create realistic ex-vivo stomach models.

Recently,the increasing demand of radio spectrum for the next generation communication systems due to the explosive growth of applications appetite for bandwidths has led to the problem of spectrum *** potential approaches among the proposed solutions to resolve this issue are well explored cognitive radio(CR)technology and recently introduced non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA)*** the techniques are employed for efficient spectrum utilization and assure the significant improvement in the spectral ***,the significant improvement in spectral efficiency can be achieved by combining both the *** the CR is well-explored technique as compared to that of the NOMA in the field of communication,therefore it is worth and wise to implement this technique over the *** this article,we have presented the frameworks of NOMA implementation over CR as well as the feasibility of proposed ***,the differences between proposed CR-NOMA and conventional CR frameworks are ***,the potential issues regarding the implementation of CR-NOMA are explored.

Performance analysis of cognitive radio networks using channel-prediction-probabilities and improved frame structure

This paper focuses on potential issues related to the random selection of a sensing channel that occurs after the prediction phase in a Cognitive Radio Network (CRN).A novel approach (Approach-l)for improved selection is proposed,which relies on the probabilities of channels by which they are predicted ***,closed-form expressions are derived for the throughput of Cognitive Users (CUs)in the conventional and proposed approaches. In addition to this,a fimdamental approach for computing the prediction probabilities is also ***, a new challenging issue named "sense and stuck"was observed in the conventional *** proposed approach is validated by comparing the results achieved with the results of the conventional ***, to achieve the prediction probabilities,the pre-channel-state-information is a prerequisite,but it may be unavailable for particular scenarios;therefore,a modified selection method is introduced to avoid the sense and stuck *** algorithm to evaluate the throughput using the random,improved,and modified selection methods is presented with its space and time ***,for additional improvement in the throughput of the CU,a new frame structure is introduced,in which the spectrum prediction and sensing periods are exploited for simultaneous transmission of data via the underlay spectrtun access technique (Approach-2).The simulated results of Approach-2 are compared with our pre-obtalned results of Approach-I,which confirm significant improvement in the throughput.

Exploring the region-wise diversity and functions of symbiotic bacteria in the gut system of wood-feeding termite,Coptotermes formosanus,toward the degradation of cellulose,hemicellulose,and organic dyes

The wood-feeding termite Coptotermes formosanus represents a unique and impressive system for lignocellulose *** highly efficient digestion of lignocellulose is achieved through symbiosis with gut symbionts like *** extensive research during the last three decades,diversity of bacterial symbionts residing in individual gut regions of the termite and their associated functions is still *** this end,cellulose,xylan,and dye-decolorization bacteria residing in foregut,midgut,and hindgut regions of *** were enlisted by using enrichment and culture-dependent molecular methods.A total of 87 bacterial strains were successfully isolated from different gut regions of *** which belonged to 27 different species of 10 genera,majorly affiliated with Proteobacteria(80%)and Firmicutes(18.3%).Among the gut regions,37.9%of the total bacterial isolates were observed in the hindgut that demonstrated predominance of cellulolytic bacteria(47.6%).The majority of the xylanolytic and dye-decolorization bacteria(50%)were obtained from the foregut and midgut,*** represented by Dietza *** observed in the hindgut *** on species richness,the highest diversity was observed in midgut and hindgut regions each of which harbored seven unique bacterial *** members of Enterobacter,Klebsiella,and Pseudomonas were common among the gut *** lignocellulolytic activities of the selected potential bacteria signpost their assistance to the host for lignocellulose *** overall results indicate that *** harbors diverse communities of lignocellulolytic bacteria in different regions of the gut *** observations will significantly advance our understanding of the termite–bacteria symbiosis and their microbial ecology uniquely existed in different gut regions of ***,which may further shed a light on its potential values at termite-modeled biotechnology.

statistical optimization of lignocellulosic waste containing culture medium for enhanced production of cellulase by Bacillus tequilensis G9

The ever increasing energy demands of modern civilization and rapidly dwindling fossil fuels point towards a renewable substitute like ***,higher costs associated with biofuel productions is the major bottleneck for its *** present study demonstrates the use of a statistical approach called response surface methodology(RsM)to investigate the optimum parameters for maximum production of cellulase by Bacillus tequilensis *** Plackett-Bur-man design(PB)of the RsM analysis indicated grass straw(Gs)concentration,pH,FesO4,inoculum,MgsO4,incubation period and NH4Cl as significant variables that influence the cellulase ***,to propose the best medium for the maximum production of cellulase by *** G9,the most influential parameters,namely concentrations of Gs as substrate,FesO4,pH,inoculum size,*** fine-tuned by central composite design(CCD)involving four factors and five *** CCD analysis demonstrated 8%substrate concentration,1.5%of inoculum along with 10 ppm FesO4 and a pH of 5.5 in media as optimum conditions for highest enzyme *** field emission scanning electron microscopic analysis of the treated Gs showed structural alterations depicting significant deconstruction caused by *** *** yield of the partially purified cellulase proteins were found to be 21%revealing molecular mass between 30 and 97 *** enhanced cellulase production by *** G9 demonstrated in our study brands its applications in many industrial processes like biorefinery,biofuels,etc.

In this paper,an advanced and optimized Light Gradient Boosting Machine(LGBM)technique is proposed to identify the intrusive activities in the Internet of Things(IoT)*** followings are the major contributions:i)An optimized LGBM model has been developed for the identification of malicious IoT activities in the IoT network;ii)An efficient evolutionary optimization approach has been adopted for finding the optimal set of hyper-parameters of LGBM for the projected ***,a Genetic Algorithm(GA)with k-way tournament selection and uniform crossover operation is used for efficient exploration of hyper-parameter search space;iii)Finally,the performance of the proposed model is evaluated using state-of-the-art ensemble learning and machine learning-based model to achieve overall generalized performance and *** outcomes reveal that the proposed approach is superior to other considered methods and proves to be a robust approach to intrusion detection in an IoT environment.
