A polarization-diversity loop with a silicon waveguide with a lateral p-i-n diode as a nonlinear medium is used to realize polarization insensitive four-wave mixing. Wavelength conversion of seven dual-polarization 16-quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) signals at 16 GBd is demonstrated with an optical signal-to-noise ratio penalty below 0.7 dB. High-quality converted signals are generated thanks to the low polarization dependence(≤0.5 dB) and the high conversion efficiency(CE) achievable. The strong Kerr nonlinearity in silicon and the decrease of detrimental free-carrier absorption due to the reverse-biased p-i-n diode are key in ensuring high CE levels.

Remote-laser beam cutting is a productive technology without tool wear. Especially when cutting carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP), it offers constant manufacturing quality. since it is a thermal process, a heat-affected zone (HAZ) is formed at the edge of the cut. Based on quasi-static and cyclic mechanical tests on open-hole specimens, the influence of the process on the mechanical properties of CFRP is shown. The quasi-static tests are in good correlation with results from other researchers by indicating an increase in the maximum tensile stress of the test specimens, cut by remote-laser. The reason is the rearrangement of the shear stresses and a reduction of the notch stress concentration. However, the results of the present study show that excessive expansion of the HAZ leads to a reduction in the maximum tensile stress compared to milled test specimens. Under cyclic load conditions, remote-laser beam cutting does not lead to a more pronounced degradation than milling. The mechanical properties of the notched test pieces are sensitive to the expansion of the HAZ. For the production of components it is therefore necessary that the remote-laser beam cutting is carried out under controlled and documentable conditions. For this purpose, process thermography was tested as a tool for quality assurance. The results show that the technology is basically suitable for this task.

Introduction: Medical literature shows consistent data on the use of botulinum toxin for the treatment of drooling, especially in patients with neurological disorder. However, any trial evaluated the reduction of sialorrhea through laryngotracheoscopy. Objective: To evaluate the reduction of salivation and aspiration in children with cerebral palsy submitted to intraparotid injection of botulinum toxin. Methods: A prospective cohort study including 31 pediatric patients with cerebral palsy who complained of sialorrhea and were submitted to an intraparotid injection of botulinum toxin type A. It was analysed the reduction of the number of bibs and the amount of saliva in the larynx and trachea through a laryngotracheoscopic examination. Results: There was a reduction in the number of bibs from 7.35 to 4 after application of BoNT/A, with p-value Conclusion: Application of botulinum toxin type A is a good method for temporary control of salivation in children with neurological disorders.

AIM: The manner in which a cell responds to and influences its environment is ultimately determined by the genes that are expressed. To better understand cellular functions, the isolation of single cells and subsequent quantification of the expressed genes is essential. METHODs: Normal liver tissue was obtained from operation, snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen and sectioned in crystat. Individual hepatocytes were microdissected. RNA was extracted, then reverse transcribed and amplified using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR). REsULTs: single hepatocytes were dissected by laser beam and catapulted to the microcentrifuge cap which was put above the slide. In this way, cells were collected, RNA was extracted, reverse transcribed to cDNA and used for analysis of RNA expression by real-time quantitative PCR. The amplification results showed that quantitation of the RNA inside the cell was compatible with the number of cells. CONCLUsION: The expression of RNA in single cells can be quantitated successfully by using laser microdissection and real-time PCR. These techniques provide an opportunity to monitor in vivo gene expression levels in single hepatocytes.

AIM: To determine the efficacy of probiotic supplementation on intestinal transit time(ITT) in adults and to identify factors that influence these outcomes. METHODs: We conducted a systematic review of randomized controlled trials of probiotic supplementation that measured ITT in adults. study quality was assessed using the Jadad scale. A random effects meta-analysis was performed with standardized mean difference(sMD) of ITT between probiotic and control groups as the primary outcome. Meta-regression and subgroup analyses examined the impact of moderator variables on sMD of ***: A total of 15 clinical trials with 17 treatment effects representing 675 subjects were included in this analysis. Probiotic supplementation was moderately efficacious in decreasing ITT compared to control, with an sMD of 0.38(95%CI: 0.23-0.53, P subgroup analyses demonstrated statistically greater reductions in ITT with probiotics in subjects with vs without constipation(sMD: 0.57 vs 0.22, P studies with high vs low study quality(sMD: 0.45 vs 0.00, P = 0.01). Constipation(R^2 = 38%, P study quality(R^2 = 31%, P = 0.01), older age(R^2 = 27%, P = 0.02), higher percentage of female subjects(R^2 = 26%, P = 0.02), and fewer probiotic strains(R^2 = 20%, P sed ITT with probiotics in meta-regression. Medium to large treatment effects were identified with B. lactis HN019(sMD: 0.67, P s DN-173 010(sMD: 0.54, P strains yielded negligible reductions in ITT relative to ***: Probiotic supplementation is moderately efficacious for reducing ITT in adults. Probiotics were most efficacious in constipated subjects, when evaluated in high-quality studies, and with certain probiotic strains.

本文以生态脆弱群体的就医偏好与决策行为为研究对象,运用问卷调查和访谈,从生态脆弱群体的属性特征和社会因素两个方面,构建logistic回归模型,分析生态脆弱群体就医偏好与决策行为。从回归模型的整体拟合来看,自变量与各别因变量之间存在显著的线性关系,其渐进sig.(双侧)值均小于0.05。其中:生态脆弱群体的教育程度、经济和身体状况等属性特征与生态脆弱群体的就医偏好存在显著线性关系;社会因素中医疗服务满意程度、医疗条件的优劣、就医程序复杂程度与生态脆弱群体的就医决策行为存在显著线性关系。据此,形成了两种类型的就医行为模式,即"自养"和"异养"型模式。研究结果可为生态脆弱群体就医行为类型的划分提供借鉴,促进行为地理学和健康地理学的融合研究。
