Bacteroides fragilis supernatant Extracts Enriched in Phenylacetic Acid Induce a Cytotoxic Effect in Mammalian Cells

Bacteroides species are nearly half of the fecal flora community and some are host symbionts crucial to host nutrition and systemic immunity. Among Bacteroides species B. fragilis strains are considered to be the opportunistic ones, being the most isolated anaerobic bacteria in clinical samples. Cell-free supernatants of 65 B. fragilis strains were assayed and they were capable of inducing vacuolating phenotype on Vero cells lineage. The supernatant of the Bacteroides fragilis ATCC 23745 strain was elicited to have the strongest vacuolating effect on Vero cells monolayers and peritoneal macrophages. some drastic cell alterations were observed, such as a general disorganization of cytoplasm and chromatin condensation, evidencing cell death. By transmission electron microscopy it was confirmed that the vacuoles observed were, in fact, swollen mitochondria. An immunocytochemical assay, TUNEL, was used to confirm this hypothesis and showed that Vero cells and peritoneal macrophages were dying by apoptotic process after exposition of B. fragilis cell-free supernatant. Physical analysis of the apoptotic factor has revealed properties similar to short-chain fatty acids. After gas chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis, phenylacetic acid (PA) was characterized as the major compound present in the most purified active fraction. We believe that the PA is responsible for the pro-apoptotic effect elicited by the supernatant of B. fragilis cultures.

The oil viscosity specification for wind turbine gear oils is IsO VG 320,although there are quite different viscosity indexes oils for that viscosity *** work evaluates the behaviour of different base oil formulations,since polyalphaolefin(PAO),mineral,ester and polyalkeleneglycol(PAG)that withstand quite different viscosity *** oils evaluation was done in rolling bearing tests and gear *** behaviour was compared for operating conditions in the range observable in a wind turbine *** experimental results showed considerable differences between the different oils and it was observed that depending on the contact type the relative behaviour of the lubricants would change,i.e.,the best lubricant for the rolling bearing would not imply the best result on the gear *** gear geometry is also very important toward the transmission efficiency,once using a low loss gear concept a decrease of up to 25%in torque loss could be *** models were implemented with the purpose of performing a better simulation of the mechanical system and also to obtain the friction coefficient promoted by the tested oils.

Optimization of Micromechanical Cleavage Technique of Natural Graphite by Chemical Treatment

In this work,we report a method to improve the efficiency of the micromechanical cleavage technique to obtain few-layers graphene samples, from natural graphite flakes, which were previously submitted to two chemical treatment times with h2sO4(17 and 25 hours). After the chemical treatment times, Raman spectroscopy reveals a hydrogenation of the few-layer graphene samples, which were obtained from the treated graphite flakes. To analyze the hydrogenation of the samples, the G and 2D bands of the Raman spectra of the treated and un-treated samples were analyzed and compared, as well as the I(2D)/I(G) ratio, revealing a p-doping on the treated samples when compared with the untreated samples. Our studies could be of great importance to obtain larger and greater amount of few-layer graphene samples.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large hadron Collider,as standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAs Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAs *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

铸造焦是冲天炉的主要燃料和碳化剂。鉴于焦炭价格较高和二氧化碳减排的压力,德国铸造业必须寻找一种焦煤的替代资源。开始于2010年1月的一个研究项目确定了以生物质残留物为基础开发合适的铸造焦替代物的框架。开发出来的生物质焦炭应该像煤粉末压块一样,在冲天炉熔炼过程中没有质量损失和引起冶炼问题。在碳化炉中,一共对15个不同的生物质(如秸秆、木质残留物、坚果壳等)进行了碳化试验,并对它们的燃料特性(如灰分、成分、热值、微量元素含量)进行了分析。考虑收购成本、收购的难易程度并结合分析结果,选择了可以试验的原料,在连续回转窑反应器中进行高温分解试验。目前正在进行适应性和捣固试验并对不同结合剂进行测试,以便满足在冲天炉中的使用要求。为了证明生物质焦炭的实际性能,最终在工业化工厂进行了试验,将铸造焦的替代率提高到了50%,加入量约为20 t。基于与工厂合作项目的研究结果,将编制有关原材料选择、铸造焦替代物的碳化和成型(成块)的操作规程。

目的该随机试验用于评估激光导丝在治疗慢性冠状动脉闭塞方面的安全性和疗效.方法和结果 18个欧洲中心的303例患有慢性冠状动脉闭塞的病人,被随机分为激光导丝治疗组(n=144)或常规导丝治疗组(机械导丝,n=159).研究初级终点,即在X线曝光时间30min内,通过指定的导丝到达闭塞远端的真腔为治疗成功.激光导丝与机械导丝的成功率比较:52.8%(n=76)vs 47.2%(n=75),P=0.33.继初始导丝试通后的严重不良事件分别为0(激光导丝)和0.6%(机械导丝).179例病人血管成型术(在导丝成功穿通后进行)成功(成功率91%,激光导丝n=79,机械导丝n=100).149例病人(79%)随后置入支架.6个月时的血管造影随访,两者的再狭窄率(激光导丝比机械导丝:45.5%vs38.3%,P=0.72)或再闭塞率(25.8%vs16.1%,P=0.15)方面的差异未达到统计学意义.在1个月、6个月和12个月随访时,心绞痛和无事件生存率为69%、35%和24%(激光导丝)比74%、40%和31%(机械导丝).
