N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide as prognostic marker for patients of non ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction

In this work, we analyzed only the patients of the NSTEMI (non ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction) who arrived at the hospital within 12 h after symptoms started. Using NSTEMI follow-up data within, the characteristics of the clinical data, the risk factor, and the blood tested in the hospital visit were analyzed for MACE (major adverse cardiac events) patients. MACE includes cardiac death, MI (myocardial infarction), Re-PCI, and CABG (coronary artery bypass graft). As a result, from the NSTEMI patients which can be followed up for over 12 m, NT-ProBNP (p=0.014) and age (p=0.045) are found to be the independent risk factors related to MACE. Accordingly, they can be useful for the diagnosis and prognosis for NSTEMI patients as a biomarker.

Most of spatial phenomena like natural vegetation units and land use areas constantly change over time and have uncertainty spatial extents. Till now, a considerable number of data models have been proposed for spatial objects with sharp boundaries as well as with indeterminate boundaries. however, they mainly concern space and time or space and fuzziness and not yet integrate them into a single unified framework. This paper introduces a formal definition of the conceptual fuzzy spatiotemporal data model, called FSTDM for fuzzy regions based on fuzzy set theory. We also contribute a method of manipulating queries with the presence of both temporal predicate and fuzzy spatial predicate in the condition clause efficiently. We then implement a prototype system. Through the experimental results, we prove that our work can be used to build a specialized system such as GIS, spatial database, and so on.

Spatial selectivity estimation is one of the essential studies to get query responses rapidly and accurately with the limitation of memory space. Currently, there exist several spatial selectivity estimation techniques such as random sampling, histogram, and parametric. Especially, Cumulative Density Histogram guarantees accurate estimation for rectangle object which has multiple count problem. however, it requires large memory space because of retaining four sub histograms for spatial data. Therefore in this paper, we propose a new technique Cumulative Density Wavelet Histogram, called CDWH, which is the combination of Cumulative Density Histogram and Haar Wavelet Transform, a compressed technique. The proposed method simultaneously takes full advantage of their strong points, high accuracy provided by the former and economization of memory space supported by the latter. Consequently, our technique is able to support estimates with relatively low error and retain similar estimates even if memory space is small.

In this paper we propose four dimensional (4D) operators, which can be used to deal with sequential changes of topological relationships between 4D moving objects and we call them 4D development operators. In contrast to the existing operators, we can apply the operators to real applications on 4D moving objects. We also propose a new approach to define them. The approach is based on a dimension separated method, which considers x y coordinates and z coordinates separately. In order to show the applicability of our operators, we show the algorithms for the proposed operators and development graph between 4D moving objects.

AIM: To evaluate the prevalence of preoperative and postoperative malnutrition and the relationships between objective and subjective nutritional assessment of gastric cancer patients. METhoDS: From October 2005 to July 2006, we studied 80 patients with no evidence of recurrent disease and no loss to follow-up after curative surgery for gastric cancer. In this group, 9 patients underwent total gastrectomy and 71 patients subtotal gastrectomy. At admission, 6 and 12 mo after surgery, the patients were assessed on the subjective global assessment (SGA), nutritional risk screening (NRS-2002), nutritional risk index (NRI) and by anthropometric measurements and laboratory data. Differences between the independent groups were assessed with the Student's t test and oneway analysis of variance. Spearman's rank correlation coefficients were calculated to evaluate the association between the scores and variables. RESULTS: The prevalence of malnutrition at admissionwas 31% by SGA and 43% by NRS-2002. At admission, the anthropometric data were lower in the malnourished groups defined by the SGA and NRS-2002 assessments, but did not differ between the groups using the NRI assessment. Body weight (BW), body mass index (BMI), triceps skin fold and midarm circumference were significantly reduced, but the total lymphocyte count, albumin, protein, cholesterol and serum iron levels did not decrease during the postoperative period. Six months after surgery, there was a good correlation between the nutritional assessment tools (SGA and NRS-2002) and the other nutritional measurement tools (BW, BMI, and anthropometric measurements). however, 12 mo after surgery, most patients who were assessed as malnourished by SGA and NRS-2002 had returned to their preoperative status, although their BW, BMI, and anthropometric measurements still indicated a malnourished status. CONCLUSION: A combination of objective and subjective assessments is needed for the early detection of the nutritional status

In this study,single-phase NbTiZr and NbTiZr(MoTa)_(0.1) medium-entropy alloys(MEAs)were investigated for their use in biomedical *** alloys were prepared by arc melting,and were then cold-rolled,annealed,and characterized in terms of phase analysis,mechanical properties,fractography,and wear *** alloys showed a single body-centered cubic phase with superior mechanical,and tribological properties compared to commercially available biomedical *** and Ta-containing MEAs showed higher tensile yield strength(1060±18 MPa)and higher tensile ductility(~20%),thus overcoming the strength-ductility trade-off with no signs of transformation-induced plasticity,twinning,or *** generalized stacking fault energy(GSFE)calculations on the{112}slip system by the first-principles calculations based on density functional theory showed that the addition of less than0.2 molar fraction of Mo and Ta lowers the GSFE *** behavior posits the increase in ductility of the alloy by facilitating slips although strength is also increased by solid solution *** wear resistance of both alloys against hardened steel surfaces was superior to that of commercial biomedical ***,we concluded that NbTiZr(MoTa)_(0.1)MEA with good tensile ductility is a potential candidate for biomedical implants.

The flexible product shape of additive manufacturing(AM)is attractive,but the process suffers from a lack of material property diversity due to a limited number of printable alloys and post-processing *** overcome this problem,the AM of metal matrix composites(MMCs)is a highly suitable solution because the properties of MMC can be tailored using various ***,extensive research has been conducted on the AM of MMCs;however,the major huddle for this process has been the difficulties in preparing feedstock powder and operating the AM *** study introduces an easily synthesizable core-shell composite powder,which was fabricated by a recently developed process called the SMART *** core-shell powder has a novel morphology,consisting of a metal core and composite shell,distinguishing it from the powders used in conventional AM *** 625/TiCp composites were fabricated using the core-shell composite powder,with various fractions of TiCp up to 10 vol.%.Compared to additive-manufactured Inconel 625,the additive-manufactured MMCs showed enhanced strength with significantly fewer *** results of this study may accelerate the application of MMC fabricated by AM,which offers superior properties and reliability compared to casting and powder metallurgy due to the higher degree of dislocation density and reinforcement dispersion.

We report a case of gastric choriocarcinoma admixed with an α-fetoprotein (AFP)-producing adeno-carcinoma. A 70-year-old man was hospitalized for gastric cancer that was detected during screening by esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). Initial laboratory data showed the increased serum level of AFP and EGD revealed a 5-cm ulcerofungating mass in the greater curvature of the gastric antrum. The patient underwent radical subtotal gastrectomywith D2 lymph node dissection and Billroth gastrojejunostomy. Histopathological evaluation confirmed double primary gastric cancer: gastric choriocarcinoma admixed with an AFP-producing adenocarcinoma and separated adenocarcinoma. At 2 wk postoperatively, his human chorionic gonadotropin and AFP levels had reduced and six cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy were initiated. No recurrence or distant metastasis was observed at 4 years postoperatively.
