Plant food anti-nutritional factors and their reduction strategies:an overview

The testis is an immune-privileged organ susceptible to oxidative stress and inflammation,two major factors implicated in male infertility.A reduction in the concentration and activities of testicular function biomarkers has been shown to correlate with impaired hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis and oxidative ***,the use of natural products to ameliorate these oxidative stress-induced changes may be essential to improving male reproductive *** possesses several pharmacological activities that may help to combat cellular reproduction-related assaults,such as altered sperm function and reproductive hormone dysfunction,and dysregulated testicular apoptosis,oxidative stress,and *** have shown that quercetin ameliorates testicular toxicity,largely by inhibiting the generation of reactive oxygen species,with the aid of the two antioxidant pharmacophores present in its ring *** radical-scavenging property of quercetin may alter signal transduction of oxidative stress-induced apoptosis,prevent inflammation,and increase sperm quality in relation to the hormonal *** this review,the therapeutic potential of quercetin in mediating male reproductive health is discussed.

Purpose:This paper presents an update of the 2011 Wheelchair Compendium of Physical Activities designed for wheelchair users and is referred to as the 2024 Wheelchair *** Wheelchair Compendium aims to curate existing knowledge of the energy expenditure for wheelchair physical activities(PAs).Methods:A systematic review of the published energy expenditure of PA for wheelchair users was completed between 2011 and May *** added these data to the 2011 Wheelchair Compendium data that was compiled previously in a systematic review through ***:A total of 47 studies were included,and 124 different wheelchair PA reported energy expenditure values ranging from 0.8 metabolic equivalents for wheelchair users(filing papers,light effort)to 11.8 metabolic equivalents for wheelchair users(Nordic sit skiing).Conclusion:In introducing the updated 2024 Wheelchair Compendium,we hope to bridge the resource gap and challenge the prevailing narratives that inadvertently exclude wheelchair users from physical fitness and health PAs.

Indigestible cowpea proteins reduced plasma cholesterol after long-term oral administration to Sprague-Dawley rats

Cowpea protein isolate(CPI)was subjected to various dry and wet heat pretreatments followed by sequential digestion with pepsin and pancreatin;the undigested residues were isolated as the indigestible cowpea proteins(ICPs).All the ICPs exhibited in vitro bile acid-binding capacity but ICP from the slow cooling-induced gelation had the highest yield(68%)and was used for rat feeding experiments to determine effect on plasma total cholesterol(TC).Groups consisting of 3 male and 3 female Sprague-Dawley rats each were fed hypercholesterolemic diets that contained casein only or casein that was partially substituted with ICP of CPI for 6 *** showed diet that contained 5%(w/w)ICP was more effective in preventing TC increase(1.8 mmol/L)when compared to increases of 9.34 and 4.15 mmol/L for CPI and casein only diets,respectively.

A holistic approach to improving safety for battery energy storage systems

Modelling the brittle rock failure by the quaternion-based bonded-particle model in DeM

This paper presents an investigation of brittle rock failure by the quaternion-based bonded-particle model in discrete element method(DeM).Unlike traditional approaches that utilize euler angles or rotation matrices,this model employs unit quaternions to represent the spatial rotations of *** method simplifies the rep-resentation of 3D rotations,providing a more intuitive framework for modelling complex interactions in granular *** numerical model was validated by the uniaxial compression tests on rock,with good agreement with well-documented experimental data in terms of the rock uniaxial compression strength(UCS)and failure *** loading,the rock sample demonstrated a linear-elastic response at an axial strain of smaller than 0.45%.However,as internal bond breakage accumulated,this linear relationship weakened,and the stress-strain curve began to deviate from its initial linear *** bond breakage and the overall deformation of the rock were primarily controlled by the shear bonding *** UCS was achieved at an axial strain of 0.625%,at which point the internal shear bonding force chains were predominantly aligned *** brittle failure occurred when the internal damage of solids nucleated to form an interconnected failure plane,accompanied by a sharp rise in the internal damage *** area of failure plane increased with the loading strain rate,gradually transforming the failure pattern from the local damage to a complete fragmentation.

Processing bioactive peptides from natural sources using electrodialysis with ultrafiltration membranes(eDUF)have gained attention since it can fractionate in terms of their charge and molecular *** is a pseudo-cereal highlighted by its high protein content,amino acid profile and adapting growing *** present work aimed at the production of quinoa peptides through fractionation using eDUF and to test the fractions according to antihypertensive and antidiabetic *** data showed the production of peptides ranging between 0.4 and 1.5 k ***(CQPF)(3.01%),anionic(AQPF)(1.18%)and the electrically neutral fraction quinoa protein hydrolysate(QPH)-eDUF(~95%)were ***-vitro studies showed the highest glucose uptake modulation in L6 cell skeletal myoblasts in presence of QPH-eDUF and AQPF(17%and 11%)indicating potential antidiabetic *** antihypertensive effect studied in-vivo in spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHR),showed a decrease in systolic blood pressure in presence of the fractionated peptides,being 100 mg/kg a dose comparable to Captopril(positive control).These results contribute to the current knowledge of bioactive peptides from quinoa by reporting the relevance of eDUF as tool to produce selected peptide ***,further characterization is needed towards peptide sequencing,their respective role in the metabolism and scaling-up production using eDUF.

Artificial intelligence model for predicting geomechanical characteristics using easy-to-acquire offset logs without deploying logging tools

This study focuses on predicting acoustic and mechanical rock properties using random forest and feed forward neural network models to evaluate the likelihood of developing efficient ways of handling absence of rock properties at offset *** Random Forest algorithm was used for direct prediction of the sonic data without considering the depth range of the facies;while Feed forward Neural network was used to predict the sonic data with emphasis on the lithofacies *** accuracy of these approaches was used in choosing the best and the most robust model for predicting sonic data when estimating formation strength and mechnical *** log was predicted after training a combination of caliper log,gamma log,depth,density log and resistivity log from offset wells.5 hidden layers that accounts for the data structural complexities was included in the model architecture.A multilayer perceptron network was adopted for the Random forest algorithm to handle linear combinations of input data *** error computations were used to evaluate the performance of the ***,mechanical properties and sanding potential was evaluated using standard relations and appropriate depositional *** forest algorithm gave the best prediction accuracy of more than 96%,but the Feed forward network has the lower mean absolute error and mean squared error of 2.75 and 5.93 ***,the predicted compressive and shear wave velocity show increase of values with depth,a behavior that is capable of identifying payzone *** was validated by the distinction seen within the 200 feet gas sand formation in the deeper portion of the studied well(9600e9800 feet).Potential failure portions of the wells,a common feature in the field,were inferred from the sanding potential computed using the predicted mechanical properties value.
