Mercury is a threatening pollutant in food,herein,we developed a Tb^(3+)-nucleic acid probe-based label-free assay for mix-and-read,rapid detection of mercury *** assay utilized the feature of light-up fluorescence of terbium ions(Tb^(3+))via binding with single-strand *** ion,Hg^(2+)induced thymine(T)-rich DNA strand to form a double-strand structure(T-Hg^(2+)-T),thus leading to fluorescence *** on the principle,Hg^(2+)can be quantified based on the fluorescence of Tb^(3+),the limit of detection was 0.0689μmol/l and the linear range was 0.1-6.0μmol/*** to the specificity of T-Hg^(2+)-T artificial base pair,the assay could distinguish Hg^(2+)from other metal *** recovery rate was ranged in 98.71%-101.34%for detecting mercury pollution in three food *** assay is low-cost,separation-free and mix-to-read,thus was a competitive tool for detection of mercury pollution to ensure food safety.

Social media is commonly used by governments to disseminate information related to transparency and institutional promotion,but its potential for the dissemination of cultural resources is often *** research proposes a strategy for adopting social media to achieve cultural dissemination in the municipality of lamas,Peru,which has tourism potential and has been awarded the“Best Tourism Villages”seal of the World Tourism ***,we propose a case study at a propositional exploratory *** start by determining the current state of dissemination of tangible and intangible resources,as well as the practical use of social media,through a survey of 20 *** results reveal that crafts are the most widely disseminated tangible resource in the municipality(according to 55%of officials),and intangible resources are occasionally disseminated(50%).We also find that Facebook is the only digital channel used to disseminate cultural *** this context,we formulate a strategy for adopting social media to improve cultural dissemination,which consists of six phases:(i)forming a work team,(ii)preparing a budget plan,(iii)strengthening capacities,(iv)taking inventory of cultural resources,(v)coordinating community interests and(vi)preparing a cultural dissemination *** findings can contribute to formulating public initiatives for the institutionalisation of social media in governments for the purposes of preserving,promoting and guaranteeing the accessibility of cultural heritage.

With increasing life expectancy， neurodegenerative diseases have become one of the leading causes of ill-health in the elderly. Preventive strategies include following healthy diets， such as the Mediterranean diet， which is particularly rich in polyphenols， bioactive compounds with neuroprotective properties. The aim of this study was to assess the association of microbial phenolic metabolites (MPM) with cognition. This cross-sectional analysis was performed with 200 participants of the PREDIMED trial (Barcelona-Clinic recruitment center). A novel method based on liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was used to identify urinary MPM (protocatechuic acid， enterodiol glucuronide， enterolactone glucuronide， urolithin B glucuronide， and vanillic acid glucuronide)， and cognitive function was evaluated with neuropsychological tests. Multivariable-adjusted ordinary least squares regression was used to assess the associations between cognitive function and MPM， and a score was calculated as the weighted sum of MPM. A higher MPM score was associated with better frontal lobe function. Among individual metabolites， vanillic acid glucuronide was correlated with frontal cognitive performance. Participants with higher concentrations of vanillic acid glucuronide and urolithin B glucuronide obtained better scores in the Color Trail Test part 2. A higher score for urinary multi-MPM was associated with better frontal cognitive performance in an older Mediterranean population.

COVID-19 generates systematic alterations in humans both in active stages of infection and over time, called post-COVID syndrome. Cortisol is a hormone that is overexpressed in inflammation and cellular stress processes. Its main function is to return to physiological homeostasis, so its evaluation together with other clinical parameters can allow us to determine the degree of systemic affectation by COVID-19. Objective: To evaluate changes in clinical parameters and plasma cortisol concentrations in patients with active COVID-19 and post-COVID syndrome. Material and Methods: Healthy patients, in stages of mild infection, critical and with post-COVID syndrome, were recruited, obtaining, through clinical diagnoses and interviews, their main clinical characteristics, in addition to plasma, in which cortisol concentrations were determined using competitive ElISA. Results: The critical stage group had higher frequencies of comorbidities, clinical symptoms, as well as more altered laboratory parameters compared to the other subgroups. In the post-COVID syndrome group after the initial infection, most laboratory parameters recovered, however, several clinical symptoms remained latent over time. The determination of cortisol showed an increase in its concentration, being higher in patients in critical stage and with post-COVID syndrome. Conclusion: COVID-19 disease generates clinical alterations that trigger an increase in plasma cortisol. These alterations increase as the stages of infection become more severe and some of them remain altered in patients with post-COVID syndrome.

Background: The protective role of (poly)phenols against metabolic disorders has been extensively studied in adults but not in ***: To assess associations of dietary (poly)phenols and their subclasses with cardiometabolic health parameters in adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 944 individuals aged 11 to 14 years enrolled in the SI! Program for Secondary Schools trial (NCT03504059). (Poly)phenol intake was assessed using semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires and the Phenol-Explorer database. The measured cardiometabolic parameters were waist circumference (WC) age-sex z-score， blood pressure (BP) age-sex z-score， blood glucose (BG)， triglycerides (TG)， and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDl-c). Multilevel mixed-effect linear regression models were applied to examine the association between (poly)phenol quintiles and cardiometabolic health ***: Compared to the lowest quintile， adolescents in the highest quintile of total (poly)phenol intake had lower WC z-scores (β=-0.09， 95%CI=-0.09;-0.08， P-for trend=0.002)， mean arterial pressure z-scores (β =-0.11， 95%CI=-0.12;-0.09， P-for trend=0.206)， and HDl-c (β=-1.52， 95%CI=-2.90;-0.14， P-for trend=0.108)， after multivariable adjustment. The WC z-scores (β=-0.11， 95%CI=-0.19;-0.03， P-for trend=0.013) and HDl-c (β=-2.16， 95%CI=-3.78;-0.53， P-for trend=0.046) were lower in the highest quintile of flavonoid intake compared to the lowest quintile. Introduction: Uterine leiomyomas, or fibroids, are prevalent benign tumors affecting up to 70% of reproductive-age women in the United States, significantly impacting productivity and quality of life. Despite their commonality, the epidemiology and clinical patterns of leiomyomas in Puerto Rico remain inadequately researched. Methods: This study conducted a secondary data analysis using clinical, menstrual cycle characteristics, and demographic data from self-administered questionnaires of women undergoing diagnostic laparoscopy for endometriosis in Puerto Rico. Chi-square tests and t-tests analyzed categorical and continuous variables, respectively (p Results: Among 1,610 endometriosis cases, 312 included uterine fibroids. Prevalence estimates were 10.3% (40 years). Primiparous women averaged 22.14 years, with 40.71% having 2 - 3 pregnancies and 26.28% experiencing miscarriages. Symptoms included infertility (29.5%), dyspareunia (40.7%), severe pain (50%), and dysmenorrhea (75.6%). Comorbidities included ovarian cysts (52.2%) and abnormal uterine bleeding (37.8%). Conclusions: Advanced age, parity, and comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension were prevalent in our cohort. Understanding the epidemiological profile of women living in Puerto Rico with uterine fibroids is crucial for improving diagnostic awareness and enhancing patient care.
