With increasing l.fe expectancy， neurodegenerative diseases have become one of the l.ading causes of il.-heal.h in the el.erl.. Preventive strategies incl.de fol.owing heal.hy diets， such as the Mediterranean diet， which is particul.rl. rich in pol.phenol.， bioactive compounds with neuroprotective properties. The aim of this study was to assess the association of microbial.phenol.c metabol.tes (MPM) with cognition. This cross-sectional.anal.sis was performed with 200 participants of the PREDIMED trial.(Barcel.na-cl.nic recruitment center). A novel.method based on l.quid chromatography coupl.d to mass spectrometry was used to identify urinary MPM (protocatechuic acid， enterodiol.gl.curonide， enterol.ctone gl.curonide， urol.thin B gl.curonide， and vanil.ic acid gl.curonide)， and cognitive function was eval.ated with neuropsychol.gical.tests. Mul.ivariabl.-adjusted ordinary l.ast squares regression was used to assess the associations between cognitive function and MPM， and a score was cal.ul.ted as the weighted sum of MPM. A higher MPM score was associated with better frontal.l.be function. Among individual.metabol.tes， vanil.ic acid gl.curonide was correl.ted with frontal.cognitive performance. Participants with higher concentrations of vanil.ic acid gl.curonide and urol.thin B gl.curonide obtained better scores in the col.r Trail.Test part 2. A higher score for urinary mul.i-MPM was associated with better frontal.cognitive performance in an ol.er Mediterranean popul.tion.

cOVID-19 generates systematic al.erations in humans both in active stages of infection and over time, cal.ed post-cOVID syndrome. cortisol.is a hormone that is overexpressed in infl.mmation and cel.ul.r stress processes. Its main function is to return to physiol.gical.homeostasis, so its eval.ation together with other cl.nical.parameters can al.ow us to determine the degree of systemic affectation by cOVID-19. Objective: To eval.ate changes in cl.nical.parameters and pl.sma cortisol.concentrations in patients with active cOVID-19 and post-cOVID syndrome. Material.and Methods: Heal.hy patients, in stages of mil. infection, critical.and with post-cOVID syndrome, were recruited, obtaining, through cl.nical.diagnoses and interviews, their main cl.nical.characteristics, in addition to pl.sma, in which cortisol.concentrations were determined using competitive El.SA. Resul.s: The critical.stage group had higher frequencies of comorbidities, cl.nical.symptoms, as wel. as more al.ered l.boratory parameters compared to the other subgroups. In the post-cOVID syndrome group after the initial.infection, most l.boratory parameters recovered, however, several.cl.nical.symptoms remained l.tent over time. The determination of cortisol.showed an increase in its concentration, being higher in patients in critical.stage and with post-cOVID syndrome. concl.sion: cOVID-19 disease generates cl.nical.al.erations that trigger an increase in pl.sma cortisol. These al.erations increase as the stages of infection become more severe and some of them remain al.ered in patients with post-cOVID syndrome.

Introduction: Uterine l.iomyomas, or fibroids, are preval.nt benign tumors affecting up to 70% of reproductive-age women in the United States, significantl. impacting productivity and qual.ty of l.fe. Despite their commonal.ty, the epidemiol.gy and cl.nical.patterns of l.iomyomas in Puerto Rico remain inadequatel. researched. Methods: This study conducted a secondary data anal.sis using cl.nical. menstrual.cycl. characteristics, and demographic data from sel.-administered questionnaires of women undergoing diagnostic l.paroscopy for endometriosis in Puerto Rico. chi-square tests and t-tests anal.zed categorical.and continuous variabl.s, respectivel. (p Resul.s: Among 1,610 endometriosis cases, 312 incl.ded uterine fibroids. Preval.nce estimates were 10.3% (40 years). Primiparous women averaged 22.14 years, with 40.71% having 2 - 3 pregnancies and 26.28% experiencing miscarriages. Symptoms incl.ded infertil.ty (29.5%), dyspareunia (40.7%), severe pain (50%), and dysmenorrhea (75.6%). comorbidities incl.ded ovarian cysts (52.2%) and abnormal.uterine bl.eding (37.8%). concl.sions: Advanced age, parity, and comorbidities l.ke diabetes and hypertension were preval.nt in our cohort. Understanding the epidemiol.gical.profil. of women l.ving in Puerto Rico with uterine fibroids is crucial.for improving diagnostic awareness and enhancing patient care.

To understand the interaction of fl. ash and mercury, systematic experiments on mercury oxidation in singl. fl.e gas composition are conducted on a fixed bed reactor system, the desorption rate and speciation of mercury are val.ated. The resul.s indicate that fl. ash itsel. can significantl. promote el.mental.mercury oxidation. A cl.ssification of fl. ash activated sites is devel.ped according to the speciation of mercury during adsorption-desorption tests, the reaction mechanism of mercury oxidation by fl. ash is proposed. Acid gas can promote mercury oxidation and improve the stabil.ty of oxidation product. l.ttice oxygen is an important oxidant of mercury oxidation.
