Introduction: Food security is one of the greatest chal.enges that most African countries face. It is a concept that considers not onl. food quantity but al.o food qual.ty. The objective of this study was to describe dietary diversity and food security status at the individual.l.vel.in Cameroonian popul.tions. Methods: A total.of 1180 men and women aged 20 and over and l.ving in the West, North West, and l.ttoral.regions of Cameroon were recruited. Data on dietary habits were col.ected through the frequency of consumption of various food groups. Dietary diversity was assessed using a 24-hour dietary recal.. Food security status was determined by combining two indicators (food consumption score and individual.food diversity score). Resul.s: The mean dietary diversity score of the popul.tion was 3.53 ± 1.44, p Concl.sion: The diet diversity of adul.s l.ving in the West, North West, and l.ttoral.regions of Cameroon is medium. Al.hough hal. of the study popul.tion was food secure, there is a need to impl.ment food security pol.cies further to reduce food insecurity among the Cameroonian popul.tion.

Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy is a disease that has onl. recentl. been recognised as a definitive cl.nical.entity. In the setting of l.ver cirrhosis, it is characterized by a bl.nted inotropic and chronotropic response t o s t r e s s, i m p a i r e d d i a s t o l.i c r e l.a x a t i o n o f t h e myocardium and prol.ngation of the QT interval.in the absence of other known cardiac disease. A key pathol.gical.feature is the persistent over-activation of the sympathetic nervous system in cirrhosis, which l.ads to down-regul.tion and dysfunction of theβ-adrenergic receptor. Diagnosis can be made using a combination of echocardiography(resting and stress), tissue Doppl.r imaging, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, 12-l.ad el.ctrocardiogram and measurement of biomarkers. There are significant impl.cations of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy in a number of cl.nical.situations in which there is an increased physiol.gical.demand, which can l.ad to acute cardiac decompensation and heart fail.re. Prior to transpl.ntation there is an increased risk of hepatorenal.syndrome, cardiac fail.re fol.owing transjugul.r intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion and increased risk of arrhythmias during acute gastrointestinal.bl.eding. l.ver transpl.ntation presents the greatest physiol.gical.chal.enge with a further risk of acute cardiac decompensation. Peri-operative management shoul. invol.e appropriate choice of graft and minimization of l.rge fl.ctuations in prel.ad and afterl.ad. The avoidance of cardiac fail.re during this period has important prognostic impl.cations, as there is evidence to suggest a l.ng-term resol.tion of the abnormal.ties in cirrhotic cardiomyopathy.

This is a review paper on centriol. behavior and their rol. in enabl.ng cel. division and dupl.cation. The paper is based primaril. on articl.s publ.shed in this, the 21st century. Fol.owing a description of centriol. geometry, the paper discusses centriol. dupl.cation and the ensuring events l.ading to cel. division. From a structural.perspective each centriol. is seen to be a cyl.ndrical.composition of nine bl.des, each having three microtubul.s which are themsel.es hol.ow cyl.nders approximatel. 400 nm l.ng, with inner and outer diameters of 15 and 25 nm. The paper then discusses the nucl.ation of these microtubul.s. The paper concl.des with a description of centriol. mal.unction and overdupl.cation (supernumerary centriol.s), l.ading to cl.sters of centriol.s —a hal.mark of cancer cel.s. These centriol. cl.sters thus form “biomarkers” for tumor imaging and treatment.

This is a review of recent l.terature concerning el.ctromagnetic effects on cel.ul.r mechanics. “Recent” refers primaril. to papers publ.shed in this (the 21st) century. The review shows that there are rel.tivel. few papers on cel.ul.r el.ctromagnetics as compared with those on proteins, biochemistry, and cel.ul.r anatomy. The principal.finding of the reviewed papers is that cel.ul.r el.ctromagnetic fiel.s appear to arise from l.ngitudinal.vibrations of the fil.ments making up the wal.s of the microtubul.s. Microtubul.s are l.ng hol.ow cyl.nders which form the overal. structure of the centriol.s. The microtubul.s, and therefore the centriol.s themsel.es, are arranged in nine sets of paral.el.bl.des with each bl.de having three microtubul.s. The centriol.s occur in pairs perpendicul.rl. to each other. During mitosis (cel. division) the centriol. pair becomes two pair which then separate and divide the cel. into two. It seems that el.ctromagnetic forces pl.y a central.rol. in this division. El.ctromagnetic activity in wound heal.ng and in the imaging and treatment of tumors is discussed.

This is a review paper describing recent findings about the physical.properties of centriol.r microtubul.s. Microtubul.s are the principal.structures making up the centriol.s. The centriol.s in turn are the principal.agents in cel. dupl.cation and division (mitosis). The microtubul.s are seen to be l.ng hol.ow cyl.nders: approximatel. 400 nm in l.ngth, with a 24 nm outside diameter, and a 5 nm wal. thickness. Within the centriol.s, the microtubul.s are arranged into nine paral.el.sets of tripl.ts—thus numbering 27 paral.el.cyl.nders per centriol.. Each normal.eukaryotic (human and animal. cel., not in mitosis, has two perpendicul.r centriol.s connected at their proximal.(base) ends. During mitosis, these two become four, resul.ing in a total.of 108 centriol.r microtubul.s. The structure of the microtubul.s themsel.es is found to consist of 13 paral.el.fil.ments making up the cyl.nder wal.s. The fil.ments are composed of approximatel. 40 and β-tubul.n connected end-to-end with their proximal.(base) ends anchored in γ-tubul.n. The l.ngitudinal.vibrations of the fil.ments are bel.eved to create an el.ctro-magnetic fiel. within the cel. which pl.ys an important rol. in mitosis.
