Satellite retrievals of columnar nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))are essential for the characterization of nitrogen oxides(NO_(x))processes and *** requirements of modeled a priori profiles present an outstanding bottleneck in operational satellite NO_(2)*** this work,we instead use neural network(NN)models trained from over 360,000 radiative transfer(RT)simulations to translate satellite radiances across 390-495nm to total NO_(2)vertical column(NO_(2)c).Despite the wide variability of the many input parameters in the RT simulations,only a small number of key variables were found essential to the accurate prediction of NO_(2)c,including observing angles,surface reflectivity and altitude,and several key principal component scores of the *** addition to the NO_(2)c,the NN training and cross-validation experiments show that the wider retrieval window allows some information about the vertical distribution to be retrieved(e.g.,extending the rightmost wavelength from 465 to 495 nm decreases the root-mean-square-error by 0.75%)under high-NO_(2)c *** to four months of TROPOMI data,the trained NN model shows strong ability to reproduce the NO_(2)c observed by the ground-based Pandonia Global *** coefficient of determination(R2,0.75)and normalized mean bias(NMB,-33%)are competitive with the level 2 operational TROPOMI product(R^(2)=0:77,NMB=−29%)over clear(geometric cloud fractionc≥7:5×10^(15)molecules/cm2)*** NN retrieval approach is~12 times faster than predictions using high spatial resolution(~3 km)a priori profiles from chemical transport modeling,which is especially attractive to the handling of large volume satellite data.

The Nutri-Score is a 5-color front-of-pack nutrition label designed to provide consumers with an easily understandable guideline to the healthiness of food *** impact that the Nutri-Score may have on consumers'choices is unclear since different experimental paradigms have found vastly different effect *** the present study,we have investigated how student participants change a hypothetical personal 1-daydietary plan after a learning phase during which they learn about the Nutri-Scores of the available food *** were instructed to compose a healthy diet plan in order that the question of whether the NutriScore would improve their ability to compose a healthy dietary plan could be investigated,independent of the question of whether they would apply this knowledge in their ordinary *** found a substantial(cohen's d=0.86)positive impact on nutritional quality(as measured by the Nutrient Profiling System score of the Food Standards Agency)and a medium-sized(cohen's d=0.43)reduction of energy *** content reduction was larger for participants who had initially composed plans with higher energy *** results suggest that the Nutri-Score has the potential to guide consumers to healthier food *** remains unclear,however,whether this potential will be reflected in real-life dietary choices.

The continuous rise in heat dissipation of integrated circuits necessitates advanced thermal solutions to ensure system reliability and efficiency. Thermoelectric coolers are among the most promising techniques for dealing with localized on-chip hot spots. This study focuses on establishing a holistic optimization methodol- ogy for such thermoelectric coolers, in which a thermo- electric element＇s thickness and the electrical current are optimized to minimize source temperature with respect to ambient, when the thermal and electrical parasitic effects are considered. It is found that when element thickness and electrical current are optimized for a given system architecture, a ＂heat flux vs. temperature difference＂ Pareto frontier curve is obtained, indicating that there is an optimum thickness and a corresponding optimum current that maximize the achievable temperature reduc- tion while removing a particular heat flux. This methodol- ogy also provides the possible system level AT＇s that can be achieved for a range of heat fluxes, defining the upper limits of thermoelectric cooling for that architecture. In this study, use was made of an extensive analytical model, which was verified using commercially available finite element analysis software. Through the optimization process, 3 pairs of master curves were generated, which were then used to compose the Pareto frontier for any given system architecture. Finally, a case study wasperformed to provide an in-depth demonstration of the optimization procedure for an example application.

The accumulation of hyperphosphorylated tau is a common feature of several dementias. Tau is one of the brain microtubule-associated proteins. Here we discuss tau＇s functions in microtubule assembly and stabilization and with regard to its interactions with other proteins. We describe and analyze important post-translational modifications： hyperphosphorylation, ubiquitination, glycation, glycosytation, nitration, polyamination, proteolysis, acetylation, and methylation. We discuss how these post-translational modifications can alter tau＇s biological function. We analyze the role of mitochondrial health in neurodegeneration. We propose that microtubules could be a therapeutic target and review different approaches. Finally, we consider whether tau accumulation or its conformational change is related to tau-induced neurodegeneration, and propose a mechanism of neurodegeneration.

Models to predict injury, physical fitness failure and attrition in recruit training: a retrospective cohort study
