The novel coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is an ongoing disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 that still poses an important and urgent threat to global *** Slovenia,the epidemic was declared on March 12th,2020,and since then COVID-19 has had a great impact on our health *** field of neurosurgery in particular has been experiencing difficulties in both elective and emergency *** this article,we described epidemiologic protocols and the effect that the COVID-19 pandemic had on the surgical practice and workflow of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Medical Centre *** analyzed and compared the number of elective and emergency neurosurgical procedures in a 2-year period before and during the *** recorded a drop in cases mostly on account of elective procedures whilst emergency service remained relatively unaffected.

BACKGROUND The endoscopic third ventriculostomy(ETV)is a neuroendoscopical procedure that represents a more suitable alternative to the extracranial *** consists of fenestrating the floor of the third ventricle and thus establishing a free flow of the cerebrospinal fluid from the ventricles to the site of resorption in the subarachnoid *** offers a more physiological solution and a chance at a shunt-free life for children with *** main indication for the procedure is obstructive hydrocephalus,however,it can also be useful in patients with other forms of *** SUMMARY We present a treatment flow of a 9-year-old patient,diagnosed with an obstructive hydrocephalus due to tectal glioma that was successfully treated with an *** review the important factors influencing the success rate such as age,aetiology,shunt history,preoperative planning and visualisation of the basilar *** Even though the ETV effectively controls obstructive hydrocephalus in more than 75%of all cases,the overall success rate of the procedure varies and could be approved by the correct preoperative patient selection.

Radiotherapy has long been used as an adjunct to neurosurgery for the treatment of malignant and benign intracranial tumors and other intracranial *** tumors can be irradiated in three different ways:Ⅰ) fractional radiotherapy, Ⅱ) stereotactic radiotherapy and Ⅲ) stereotactic radiosurgery. The third is most often by means of a gamma knife or a specially designed linear accelerator. Additionally, radiosurgery is increasingly used in combination with systemic therapy to treat metastases.

The number of invasive procedures in medicine is increasing,as is the employment of new technological *** the era of informationcommunication technology,one such achievement is also the telemedicine *** Slovenia,it is known as the Telekap(TeleStroke) network,which was primarily designed for fast and efficient management of stroke *** the neurosurgical community,the system is frequently used also for conveying vital information regarding subarachnoid haemorrhage and *** in neurosurgical emergencies,this communication system offers thorough information about the extent and location of bleeding and facilitates the preoperative planning of neurosurgical *** our experience so far,the system should be expanded to other neuro-centres as well to all neurosurgery departments in order to facilitate patient management,their acute hospital care,and inter-speciality collaboration.
