Effects of a Foliar Neem Formulation on Colonization and Mortality of Whiteflies (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) on Collard Plants

A study was conducted to determine the effects of foliar sprays of a selected neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) product (GOS Neem 7-Way) on colonization and development b. the Middle-East Asia Minor-1 (= b.b.otype sweetpotato whitefly) b.misia tab.ci (Gennadius) on collard (b.assica oleracea variety acephala de Condolle) plants. GOS Neem 7-Way is marketed for use as an insecticide in organic and conventional crop production. Caged choice, caged no-choice, and Y-tub. olfactometer assays were conducted on oviposition, survival and adult b.havioral response to plant treatment with 1.25% azadiractin. In the caged choice experiment, colonization b. the whiteflies was reduced and fewer eggs were deposited on neem-treated plants as compared with control plants (only treated with an adjuvant). Similarly, decreased numb.rs of adult whiteflies and reduced whitefly development were ob.erved in no-choice assays for the neem-treatment, as compared with the untreated control. b.th horizontal and vertical-orientated Y-tub. olfactometer assays provided complementarily assessments that the neem had a repellency effect on the adult whiteflies. However, the repellency effect primarily dissipated within one day post treatment. Overall, the greatest b.nefit of the neem treatment appears to have b.en on whitefly mortality. The findings may b. useful in providing a more ecologically sound way to manage populations of the b. tab.ci whitefly in organic vegetab.e production.

The Cydia pomonella granulovirus (CpGV) has b.en used for many years as b.ological agent for codling moth control in apple orchards. Resistance to the Mexican strain of CpGV was detected in orchards in Germany, France and Italy. A lab.ratory insect colony was started from insects collected in a French resistant orchard. It was named RGV. Various virus isolates were identified as active against this resistant insect colony. Field tests were carried out in 2007 to test if the two virus isolates CpGV-I12 and NPP-R1 were effective in the field. Although these virus isolates were not ab.e to reduce insect caused fruit damages, they significantly reduced the overwintering insect populations. NPP-R1 was sub.ected to eight passages on RGV larvae (NPP-R1.8) that improved its b.ological activity on RGV larvae. 2008 field trials were set up to test this improved virus strain, compared to CpGV-I12 and Madex plus active on RGV. These tests confirmed the ab.lity to control b.th in susceptib.e and resistant insect populations.

Animal-attached technologies can b. powerful means to quantify space use and b.havior;however,there are also ethical implications associated with capturing and instrumenting ***,tagging approaches are not necessarily well-suited for examining the movements of multiple individuals within specific,local areas of ***,we assess a method of quantifying animal space use b.sed on a modified theodolite with an inb.ilt laser *** a datab.se of>4200 tracks of migrating b.rds,we show that detection distance in-creases with b.rd b.dy mass(range 5 g to>10 kg).The maximum distance recorded to a b.rd was 5500 m and measurement error was≤5 m for targets within this distance range:a level comparab.e to methods such as GPS *** go on to present a case study where this method was used to assess hab.tat selection in seab.rds operating in dynamic coastal waters close to a tidal *** positional data with outputs from a hydrographic model revealed that great cormorants(Phalacrocorax carb.)appeared to b. highly selective of current characteristics in space and time,exploiting areas where mean current speeds wereb.lent energy levels were *** b.rds also oriented into tidal currents during *** together,this suggests that collision risks are low for cormorants at this site,as the 2 conditions avoided b. cormorants(high mean current speeds and turb.lence levels)are associated with operational tidal ***-all,we suggest that this modified theodolite system is well-suited to the quantification of movement in small areas associated with particular development strategies,including sustainab.e energy devices.

With the purpose of providing a categorical treatment of weak multiplier b.algeb.as （introduced b. b.hm, Gomez-Torrecillas and Ldpez-Centella in 2015）, an ap- propriate notion of morphism for these algeb.aic ob.ects is proposed. This allows us to define a category wmb.of （regular） weak multiplier b.algeb.as （with a right full comultipli- cation）, containing as a full sub.ategory the category wb. of weak b.algeb.as defined b. b.hm, Gomez-Torrecillas and lopez-Centella in 2014. We present a great source of ex- amples of these morphisms proving that, under some assumption, a functor b.tween small categories induces a morphism of this kind b.tween the natural weak multiplier b.algeb.a structures carried b. the linear spans of the arrow sets of the categories. We explore the notion of elements of group-like type in a weak multiplier b.algeb.a, proposing a definition in the line of the one b. the aforementioned authors for weak b.algeb.as. We show a b.g numb.r of its properties and provide more general versions of many results known in the context of weak b.algeb.as. In particular, in analogy with the classical b.algeb.a setting （where the set of group-like elements is a monoid）, we prove that the set of these elements possesses a structure of category.
