AIM： To measure circulating angiotensins at different stages of human cirrhosis and to further evaluate a possible relationship between renin angiotensin system （RAS） components and hemodynamic changes. METHODS： Patients were allocated into 4 groups： mild-to-moderate liver disease （MLD）, advanced liver disease （ALD）, patients undergoing liver transplantation, and healthy controls. Blood was collected to determine plasma renin activity （PRA）, angiotensin （Ang） Ⅰ, Ang Ⅱ, and Ang-（1-7） levels using radioimmunoassays. During liver transplantation, hemodynamic parameters were determined and blood was simultaneously obtained from the portal vein and radial artery in order to measure RAS components. RESULTS： PRA and angiotensins were elevated in ALD when compared to MLD and controls （P 〈 0.05）. In contrast, Ang Ⅱ was significantly reduced in MLD. Ang-（1-7）/Ang Ⅱ ratios were increased in MLD when compared to controls and ALD. During transplantation, Ang Ⅱ levels were lower and Ang-（1-7）/Ang Ⅱ ratios were higher in the splanchnic circulation than in the peripheral circulation （0.52 ± 0.08 vs 0.38 ±0.04, P 〈 0.02）, whereas the peripheral circulating Ang Ⅱ/Ang Ⅰ ratio was elevated in comparison to splanchnic levels （0.18 ±0.02 vs 0.13 ±0.02, P 〈 0.04）. Ang-（1-7）/ Ang Ⅱ ratios positively correlated with cardiac output （r = 0.66） and negatively correlated with systemic vascular resistance （r = -0.70）. CONCLUSION： Our findings suggest that the relationship between Ang-（1-7） and Ang Ⅱ may play a role in the hemodynamic changes of human cirrhosis.

The oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of isobutane over Cr_2O_3/La_2(CO_3)_3 has been investigated in a low-pressure Knudsen cell reactor, under conditions where the kinetics of the primary reaction steps can be accurately determined. By heating the catalyst at a constant rate from 150-300℃, temperature fluctuations due to non-equilibrium adsorption are minimized. The evolved gas profiles show that ODH to isobutene and water is a primary reaction pathway, while carbon dioxide, which forms from the catalyst during reaction, is the only other product. This CO2 evolution may enhance the activity of the catalyst. Isobutene formation proceeds with the participation of lattice oxygen from the Cr2O3/La2(CO3)3 catalyst. The intrinsic Arrhenius rate constant for the ODH of isobutane isk(s-1) = 1011.5±2.2exp{-((55±5) -ΔHads kJmol-1)/RT}The small pre-exponential factor is expected for a concerted mechanism and for such a catalyst with a small surface area and limited porosity.

Gastric ulcers affect many people around the world and their development is a result of the imbalance between aggressive and protective factors in the gastric *** buxifolia,commonly known as coronilha,has attracted the interest of the scientific community due to its pharmacological properties and its potential therapeutic *** this study,the preventive effects of the crude extract of Scutia buxifolia(ceSb)against gastric ulcer induced by 70%ethanol were evaluated in male Wistar *** addition,the composition of ceSb was clarified by high-performance liquid chromato-graphy(HPLC).*** extract(100,200 and 400 mg/kg body weight)attenuated oxidative and histopathological features induced by ***,all evaluated doses of ceSb caused significant(P<0.001 and P<0.0001)and dose-dependent increase in sulfhydryl groups(NPSH)levels,catalase(CAT)and superoxide dismutase(SOD)***,the administration of ceSb reversed the increase in lipid peroxidation produced by *** protective effect of the extract could be attributed to antioxidant compounds present in the ceSb,such as flavonoids and phenolic acids,which were quantified by ***,an antioxidant effect of the extract leads to a protection on gastric *** results indicate that *** could have a beneficial role against ethanol toxicity by preventing oxidative stress and gastric tissue injury.

描述了中国云南北部的金丝桃属Hypericum L.(藤黄科)两个新种,即楚雄金丝桃H. fosteri N. robson和漾濞金丝桃H. wardianum N. robson。二者均与短柱金丝桃H. hookerianum Wight & Arn.相近。楚雄金丝桃为一地方特有种,目前仅在模式地点发现;漾濞金丝桃在缅甸东北部还有分布。二者主要以蒴果伸长,非卵状近球形,萼片无中脉而有别于短柱金丝桃。此外,将宽萼金丝桃H. latisepalum (N. robson) N. robson从亚种提升为种;将变异较大的纤枝金丝桃H. lagarocladum N. robson划分为两个亚种,即叶较宽、具有开张习性的原亚种纤枝金丝桃H. lagarocladum ssp. lagarocladum和叶较窄、更为直立的新亚种狭叶金丝桃H. lagarocladum ssp. angustifolium N. robson。

Chronic liver diseases(CLDs)are becoming increasingly more prevalent in modern *** use of imaging techniques for early detection,such as magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),is crucial in reducing the impact of these diseases on healthcare *** intelligence(AI)algorithms have been shown over the past decade to excel at image-based analysis tasks such as detection and *** applied to liver MRI,they have the potential to improve clinical decision making,and increase throughput by automating *** Liver diseases becoming more prevalent in society,the need to implement these techniques to utilize liver MRI to its full potential,is *** this review,we report on the current methods and applications of AI methods in liver MRI,with a focus on machine learning and deep learning *** assess four main themes of segmentation,classification,image synthesis and artefact detection,and their respective potential in liver MRI and the wider *** provide a brief explanation of some of the algorithms used and explore the current challenges affecting the *** there are many hurdles to overcome in implementing AI methods in the clinic,we conclude that AI methods have the potential to positively aid healthcare professionals for years to come.

Cancer is a highly heterogeneous group of diseases that despite improved treatments remain prevalent accounting for over 14 million new cases and 8.2 million deaths per year. Studies into the process of carcinogenesis are limited by lack of appropriate models for the development and pathogenesis of the disease based on human tissues. Primary culture of patient samples can help but is difficult to grow for a number of tissues. A potential opportunity to overcome these barriers is based on the landmark study by Yamanaka which demonstrated the ability of four factors;Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc to reprogram human somatic cells in to pluripotency. These cells were termed induced pluripotent stem cells(i PSCs) and display characteristic properties of embryonic stem cells. This technique has a wide range of potential uses including disease modelling, drug testing and transplantation studies. Interestingly i PSCs also share a number of characteristics with cancer cells including self-renewal and proliferation, expression of stem cell markers and altered metabolism. Recently, i PSCs have been generated from a number of human cancer cell lines and primary tumour samples from a range of cancers in an attempt to recapitulate the development of cancer and interrogate the underlying mechanisms involved. This review will outline the similarities between the reprogramming process and carcinogenesis, and how these similarities have been exploited to generate i PSC models for a number of cancers.

Hepatic fibrosis is considered a common response to many chronic hepatic injuries. It is a multifunctional process that involves several cell types, cytokines, chemokines and growth factors leading to a disruption of homeostatic mechanisms that maintain the liver ecosystem. In spite of many studies regarding the development of fibrosis, the understanding of the pathogenesis remains obscure. The hepatic tissue remodeling process is highly complex, resulting from the balance between collagen degradation and synthesis. Among the many mediators that take part in this process, the components of the Renin angiotensin system （RAS） have progressively assumed an important role. Angiotensin （Ang） II acts as a profibrotic mediator and Ang-（1-7）, the newly recognized RAS component, appears to exert a counter-regulatory role in liver tissue. We briefly review the liver fibrosis process and current aspects of the RAS. This review also aims to discuss some experimental evidence regarding the participation of RAS mediators in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis, focusing on the putative role of the ACE2-Ang-（1-7）- Mas receptor axis.
