Bolted joints play a more and more important role in the structure with lighter weight and heavier *** paper aims to provide an overview of different experimental approaches for the dynamic behavior of structures in the presence of bolted joints,especially the energy dissipation or damping at frictional *** comprehension of energy dissipation mechanisms due to friction is provided first,while the key parameters and the measurement techniques,such as the excitation force,the preload of the bolt,or the pressure at the interfaces,are briefly ***,the round-robin systems aim to measure the hysteresis parameters of the frictional joints under tangential loads are reviewed,summarizing the basic theory and the strategies to apply the excitation force or acquire the response in different testing *** by parameter identification strategies for bolted structures,the test rigs with one or more simplified bolted joints are summarized to give an insight into the understanding of typical characteristics of bolted structures,which are affected by the presence of *** complex test rigs hosting real-like or actual engineering structures with bolted lap or flange joints are also introduced to show the identification process of the dynamic characteristics of bolted connections employed in specific *** on the review paper,researchers can get the basic knowledge about the experimental systems of the bolted structures,especially several classical round robin systems,such as the Gaul resonator and widely used Brake-Reußbeam *** can take advantage of this background for more creative and effective future studies,make more progress on the study of assembled structures and understand the influence of bolting frictional connections on the dynamic response better.

Structural optimization of patient-specific temporomandibular joint replacement implants for additive manufacturing:novel metrics for safety evaluation and biomechanical performance

Total temporomandibular joint(TmJ)replacement is recommended only when there is irreversible damage to the joint and no conservative treatment can provide functional *** stock and custom-made TmJ implants have been made available;however,retrospective and comparative studies were unable to find significant differences between the two types of *** introduction of additive manufacturing(Am)techniques in medical practice allows for a greater freedom of design and a higher degree of device *** combination of Am with structural optimisation may streamline development and provide the key for fabricating biomechanic ally enhanced TmJ *** this study,structural optimis ation techniques were applied to develop and numerically validate a patient-specific TmJ *** biomechanical behaviour of each intermediate TmJ design was assessed under four different nominal and maximum biting tasks using finite element *** addition,a new set of metrics were proposed to compare each design regarding biomechanical performance and implant *** results suggest that 55-82%of the natural/intact strain patterns can be recovered with the finally selected TmJ *** represents an increase of 15%in biomechanical performance for incisor biting,15%for right molar biting,17%for left molar biting and a decrease of 2%for left group biting compared with the initial *** results also suggest that load transfer at the proximal ramus reduces the implant’s impact on the mandible’s strain ***,structural optimisation allows for a volume reduction of up to 44%with a minimum loss of implant safety and biomechanical performance.

in recent years there has been an increasing interest in developing spatial statistical models for data sets that are seemingly spatially *** lack of spatial structure makes it difficult,if not impossible to use optimal predictors such as ordinary kriging for modeling the spatial variability in the *** many instances,the data still contain a wealth of information that could be used to gain flexibility and precision in *** this paper we propose using a combination of regression analysis to describe the large-scale spatial variability in a set of survey data and a tree-based stratification design to enhance the estimation process of the small-scale spatial *** this approach,sample units（i.e.,pixel of a satellite image） are classified with respect to predictions of error attributes into homogeneous classes,and the classes are then used as strata in the stratified *** variables used as a basis of stratification included terrain data and satellite imagery.A decision rule was used to identify a tree size that minimized the error in estimating the variance of the mean response and prediction uncertainties at new spatial *** approach was applied to a set of n=937 forested plots from a state-wide inventory conducted in 2006 in the mexican State of *** final models accounted for 62% to 82% of the variability observed in canopy closure（%）,basal area（m2·ha-1）,cubic volumes（m3·ha-1） and biomass（t·ha-1） on the sample *** spatial models provided unbiased estimates and when averaged over all sample units in the population,estimates of forest structure were very close to those obtained using classical estimates based on the sampling strategy used in the state-wide *** spatial models also provided unbiased estimates of model variances leading to confidence and prediction coverage rates close to the 0.95 nominal rate.

The proliferation of mobile devices in society accessing data via the ＂cloud＂ is imposing a dramatic increase in the amount of information to be stored on hard disk drives （HDD） used in servers. Forecasts are that areal densities will need to increase by as much as 35% compound per annum and by 2,020 cloud storage capacity will be around 7 zettabytes corresponding to areal densities of 2 Tb/in^2. This requires increased performance from the magnetic pole of the electromag- netic writer in the read/write head in the HDD. Current state-of-art writing is undertaken by morphologically complex magnetic pole of sub 100 nm dimensions, in an environment of engineered magnetic shields and it needs to deliver strong directional magnetic field to areas on the recording media around 50 nm × 13 nm. This points to the need for a method to perform direct quantitative measurements of the magnetic field generated by the write pole at the nanometer scale. Here we report on the complete in situ quantitative mapping of the magnetic field generated by a functioning write pole in operation using electron holography. The results point the way towards a new nanoscale magnetic field source to further develop in situ transmission electron microscopy.

Natural resource statistics are often unavailable for small ecological or economic regions and policymakers have to rely on state-level datasets to evaluate the status of their resources （i.e., forests, rangelands, grasslands, agriculture, etc.） at the regional or local level. These resources can be evaluated using small-area estimation techniques. However, it is unknown which small area technique produces the most valid and precise results. The reliability and accuracy of two methods, synthetic and regression estimators, used in smallarea analyses, were examined in this study. The two small-area analysis methods were applied to data from Jalisco＇s state-wide natural resource inventory to examine how well each technique predicted selected characteristics of forest stand structure. The regression method produced the most valid and precise estimates of forest stand characteristics at multiple geographical scales. Therefore, state and local resource managers should utilize the regression method unless appropriate auxiliary information is not available.
