Complement proteins in blood recognize charged *** anionic phospholipid(aPL)cardiolipin binds both complement proteins C1q and factor H.C1q is an activator of the complement classical pathway,while factor H is an inhibitor of the alternative *** examine opposing effects of C1q and factor H on complement activation by aPL,we surveyed C1q and factor H binding,and complement activation by aPL,either coated on microtitre plates or in *** C1q and factor H bound to all aPL tested,and competed directly with each other for *** the aPL activated the complement classical pathway,but negligibly the alternative pathway,consistent with accepted roles of C1q and factor ***,in this system,factor H,by competing directly with C1q for binding to aPL,acts as a direct regulator of the complement classical *** regulatory mechanism is distinct from its action on the alternative *** of classical pathway activation by factor H was confirmed by measuring C4 activation by aPL in human sera in which the C1q:factor H molar ratio was adjusted over a wide *** factor H,which is regarded as a down-regulator only of the alternative pathway,has a distinct role in downregulating activation of the classical complement pathway by aPL.A factor H homologue,β2-glycoprotein-1,also strongly inhibits C1q binding to *** globular domains of C1q A,b and C chains bound aPL similarly to native C1q,confirming that C1q binds aPL via its globular heads.

background We aimed to evaluate the effects of interfacility pediatric critical care transport response time,physician presence during transport,and mode of transport on mortality and length of stay(LOS)among pediatric *** hypothesized that a shorter response time and helicopter transports,but not physician presence,are associated with lower mortality and a shorter *** Retrospective,single-center,cohort study of 841 patients(between 2014 and 2018 utilizing patient charts and transport *** linear and logistic regression analyses adjusted for age,diagnosis,mode of transport,response time,stabilization time,return duration,mortality risk(pediatric index of mortality-2 and pediatric risk of mortality-3),and inotrope,vasopressor,or mechanical ventilation presence on *** Four hundred and twenty-eight(50.9%)patients were transported by helicopter,and 413(49.1%)were transported by *** accompanied 239(28.4%)*** median response time was 2.0(interquartile range 1.4–2.9)*** physician presence increased the median response time by 0.26 hours(P=0.020),neither physician presence nor response time significantly affected mortality,ICU length of stay(ILOS)or hospital length of stay(HLOS).Helicopter transports were not significantly associated with mortality or ILOS,but were associated with a longer HLOS(3.24 days,95%confidence interval 0.59–5.90)than ambulance transports(P=0.017).Conclusions These results suggest response time and physician presence do not significantly affect mortality or *** may reflect the quality of pre-transport care and medical control *** transports were only associated with a longer *** analysis provides a framework for examining transport workforce needs and associated costs.

Excitons,bound electron–hole pairs,in two-dimensional hybrid organic inorganic perovskites(2D HOIPs)are capable of forming hybrid light-matter states known as exciton-polaritons(E–Ps)when the excitonic medium is confined in an optical *** the case of 2D HOIPs,they can self-hybridize into E–Ps at specific thicknesses of the HOIP crystals that form a resonant optical cavity with the ***,the fundamental properties of these self-hybridized E–Ps in 2D HOIPs,including their role in ultrafast energy and/or charge transfer at interfaces,remain ***,we demonstrate that>0.5µm thick 2D HOIP crystals on Au substrates are capable of supporting multiple-orders of self-hybridized E–P *** E–Ps have high Q factors(>100)and modulate the optical dispersion for the crystal to enhance sub-gap absorption and *** varying excitation energy and ultrafast measurements,we also confirm energy transfer from higher energy E–Ps to lower energy E–***,we also demonstrate that E–Ps are capable of charge transport and transfer at *** findings provide new insights into charge and energy transfer in E–Ps opening new opportunities towards their manipulation for polaritonic devices.

The sustainability of rice production continues to be a subject of uncertainty and inquiry attributed to shifts in climatic conditions. In light of the impending climate change crisis and the high labor and water costs accompanying it, direct-seeded rice(DSR) is unquestionably one of the most practical solutions. Despite its resource and climate-friendly advantages, early maturing rice faces weed competitiveness and seedling establishment challenges. Resolving these issues is crucial for promoting its wider adoption among farmers, presenting it as a more effective sustainable rice cultivation method globally. Diverse traditional and contemporary breeding methods are employed to mitigate the limitations of the DSR approach, leveraging advanced techniques such as speed breeding and genome editing. Focusing on key traits like mesocotyl length elongation, early seedling vigor, root system architecture, and weed competitiveness holds promise for transformative improvements in DSR adaptation at a broader scale within farming communities. This review aims to summarize how these features contribute to increased crop production in DSR conditions and explore the research efforts focusing on enhancing DSR adaptation through these traits. Emphasizing the pivotal role of these game-changing traits in DSR adaptation, our analysis sheds light on their potential transformative impact and offers valuable insights for advancing DSR practices.

In polygynous systems,such as that exhibited by reindeer Rangifer tarandus,mate choice can be difficult to disentangle from male intrasexual competition because male behavior may constrain female *** mating may provide an avenue for female mate choice,though it is difficult to identify using behavioral estimators *** techniques address this issue by affording ecologists an opportunity to reassess mating systems from a genetic *** assessed the frequency and possible explanations for multiple mating in reindeer using a genetic approach to determine the success of observed copulations in a semi-domesticated herd in Kaamanen,*** and genetic data were synthesized with population characteristics over a 7-year period to test the hypothesis that,if present,polyandry in reindeer is driven by sexual harassment from sub-dominant *** observed multiple mating in 42%of females,with as many as 60%exhibiting multiple mating in certain *** found no evidence that multiple mating resulted from sexual harassment by sub-dominant males,suggesting that it is likely a deliberate strategy among *** rate of copulations into paternities varied with male size,with smaller males more likely to experience mismatch than larger *** preference for larger males persisted despite the occurrence of multiple mating,possibly suggesting a mechanism for cryptic post-copulatory *** suggest further research to delineate the possible influence of cryptic post-copulatory selection and multiple mating to defend against infertility in exhausted males.

Utilization of polyethyleneglycol （PEG） functionalized zinc phthalocyanine, （PEG）4ZnPc in （i） singlet oxygen generation, and （ii） in building energy harvesting donor-acceptor systems using fullerene, C60 as an acceptor via the well-known metal-ligand axial coordination approach is reported. The （PEG）4ZnPe was found to be capable of producing singlet oxygen with a quantum yield, ooa of 0.77 in toluene, a value higher than that obtained for pristine （t-bu）4ZnPc （φ△=0.54） carrying no PEG groups, revealing its usefulness in photodynamic therapy applications. Spectroscopic studies revealed efficient binding of phenylimidazole functionalized fullerene, C60 Im with l ： 1 stoichiometry to （PEG）4ZnPc. binding constant K for the formation of （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad was found to be 6 × 103 M 1 revealing moderate stability. Geometric and electronic studies of the dyad was arrived by b3LYP/3-21G（＊） method. The HOMO level was found to be on zinc phthalocyanine entity while the LUMO level was found to be on the C60 entity suggesting formation of （PEG）4ZnPc＊＋：ImC60＊ charge separated state during the process of electron transfer reaction. Redox studies on the （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad enabled accurate determination of the oxidation and reduction potentials of the donor-acceptor system, and to evaluate free-energy changes associated for the charge separation process. Kinetics of photoinduced charge separation and recombination in the （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad was investigated using femtosecond transient absorption studies. Relatively long-lived charge separated states were confirmed for the dyad suggesting their potential usefulness in energy harvesting applications.
