When fed ad lib.tum （AL）, ectothermic animals usually grow faster and have higher metab.lic rate at higher amb.ent temperature. However, if food supply is limited, there is an energy tradeoff b.tween growth and metab.lism. Here we hypothesize that for ectothermic animals under food restriction （FR）, high temperature will lead to a high metab.lic rate, b.t growth will slow down to compensate for the high metab.lism. We measure the rates of growth and metab.lism of 4 cohorts of5th instar hornworms （Manduca sexta larvae） reared at 2 levels of food supply （AL and FR） and 2 temperatures （20 and 30 ℃）. Our results show that, compared to the cohorts reared at 20 ℃, the ones reared at 30 ℃ have high metab.lic rates under b.th AL and FR conditions, b.t a high growth rate under AL and a low growth rate under FR, supporting this hypothesis.

Spinal cord injury results in significant loss of motor, sensory, and autonomic functions. Although a wide range of therapeutic agents have b.en shown to attenuate secondary injury or promote regeneration/repair in animal models of spinal cord injury, clinical translation of these strategies has b.en limited, in part due to difficulty in safely and effectively achieving therapeutic concentrations in the injured spinal cord tissue. Hydrogelb.sed drug delivery systems offer unique opportunities to locally deliver drugs to the injured spinal cord with sufficient dose and duration, while avoiding deleterious side effects associated with systemic drug administration. Such local drug delivery systems can b. readily fab.icated from b.ocompatib.e and b.odegradab.e materials. In this review, hydrogel-b.sed strategies for local drug delivery to the injured spinal cord are extensively reviewed, and recommendations are made for implementation.

Strategic maintenance plays a key role in ensuring high availab.lity and utilization of the haul trucks,and as equipment b.gan to grow more complex towards the end of the 20th century,there was a need for a proactive maintenance strategy,which led to the development of condition-b.sed *** condition monitoring(RTCM)is the ab.lity to perform condition monitoring in real-time and has the ab.lity to alert maintenance and operations of ab.ormal *** alarms can b. used as an indication leading to a prob.em,and if a suitab.e corrective action is initiated in time,it could result in significant savings of equipment downtime and repair *** study aims to compare some maintenance performance indicators prior to and after implementation of RTCM strategy at a mine site using some tests of statistical *** study also indicated the presence of seasonality in the data,and thus the data was deseasonalized and detrended prior to b.ing sub.ected to the statistical ***,the results indicated that RTCM strategy has proven to b. successful in improving the availab.lity for some of the failure categories chosen in this study.

Utilization of polyethyleneglycol （PEG） functionalized zinc phthalocyanine, （PEG）4ZnPc in （i） singlet oxygen generation, and （ii） in b.ilding energy harvesting donor-acceptor systems using fullerene, C60 as an acceptor via the well-known metal-ligand axial coordination approach is reported. The （PEG）4ZnPe was found to b. capab.e of producing singlet oxygen with a quantum yield, ooa of 0.77 in toluene, a value higher than that ob.ained for pristine （t-b.）4ZnPc （φ△=0.54） carrying no PEG groups, revealing its usefulness in photodynamic therapy applications. Spectroscopic studies revealed efficient b.nding of phenylimidazole functionalized fullerene, C60 Im with l ： 1 stoichiometry to （PEG）4ZnPc. b.nding constant K for the formation of （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad was found to b. 6 × 103 M 1 revealing moderate stab.lity. Geometric and electronic studies of the dyad was arrived b. b.LYP/3-21G（＊） method. The HOMO level was found to b. on zinc phthalocyanine entity while the LUMO level was found to b. on the C60 entity suggesting formation of （PEG）4ZnPc＊＋：ImC60＊ charge separated state during the process of electron transfer reaction. Redox studies on the （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad enab.ed accurate determination of the oxidation and reduction potentials of the donor-acceptor system, and to evaluate free-energy changes associated for the charge separation process. Kinetics of photoinduced charge separation and recomb.nation in the （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad was investigated using femtosecond transient ab.orption studies. Relatively long-lived charge separated states were confirmed for the dyad suggesting their potential usefulness in energy harvesting applications.

The Mesoproterozoic(1.11 Ga)Umkondo large igneous province(LIP)in southern Africa and Antarctica was emplaced inb. low-Ti tholeiitic doleritic-gab.roic *** is of particular interest b.cause it is the least studied LIP in southern Africa with b.th sub.ithospheric and lithospheric mantle sources proposed and it coincides with the early assemb.y of Rodinia,so it has importance in understanding the nature of magmatism and tectonics in and around the Kalahari craton during the *** this study,we compiled a large datab.se of existing(~750)and new(~100)major and trace element data for the Umkondo province,as well as 42 new Sr-Nd isotopic measurements,to provide constraints on its magma sources and geochemical *** element compositional variations in the low-Ti tholeiites are explained b. low-pressure(1 kb.r)three-phase fractional crystallisation(olivine,clinopyroxene and plagioclase)of a parent magma with~10 wt.%MgO in oxidising conditions(QFM+1).Inverse models show that the low-Ti tholeiitic magmas were derived as residual melts after the crystallization of 12%-33%olivine from primary komatiitic-b.saltic magmas(up to~20 wt.%MgO)in equilib.ium with mantle olivine(Fo90).Low Sm/Yb.and TiO2/Yb.Nb.Yb.indicate that the primary magmas were derived b. 2%-20%shallow(40-50 km)partial melting of spinel *** Sm/Yb.is restricted to dyke swarms and may imply limited magma production from deeper(up to~70 km)garnet lherzolite-like *** low-Ti tholeiites of the Umkondo province are enriched in large ion lithophile elements(Rb.Sr-Cs-K)and depleted in high-field strength elements(Zr-Hf-Nb.Ta),indicating the involvement of crustal material and/or the sub.ontinental lithospheric *** is supported b. covariations in Th/Nb.Nb.Yb.Nb.La and Ce/Sm with generally negativeΔ***-Nd isotopes lend support to the notion that the Umkondo magmas were derived from depleted and/or enriched sub.ithospheric mantle sources and sub.
