Microscopic colitis:A large retrospective analysis from a health maintenance organization experience

AIM： To examine the demographic data on a large multi-ethnic population of patients with microscopic colitis （MC） in Southern California and to determine the association of MC with inflammatory bowel disease （IBD） and colorectal cancer. METhODS： All patients diagnosed with MC by co- Ionic biopsy from 1996-2005 were identified utilizing a pathology database. All biopsies were reviewed by experienced pathologists utilizing standard histologic criteria. Patients＇ medical records were reviewed and data regarding patient age, co-morbidities, sex, ethnic- ity, and medications were analyzed. An age- and sex- matched standard control group was also generated. Chi-square test was used to evaluate the associations of co-morbidities between lymphocytic colitis （LC）, col- lagenous colitis （CC） and the control group. RESULTS： A total of 547 cases of MC were identified, 376 patients with LC and 171 patients with CC. The fe- male/male ratio was 3：1 in CC and 2.7：1 in LC patients. Celiac disease （P 〈 0.001）, irritable bowel syndrome （IBS）（P 〈 0.001）, and thyroid diseases （P 〈 0.001） were found to have a higher occurrence in MC com- pared to the control group. No statistical differences in the occurrence of colorectal cancer, diabetes and IBD were found between the MC group and the control group. CONCLUSION： This is the largest group of patients with MC known to the authors that has been studied to date. Conditions such as celiac disease, IBS, and thyroid diseases were found to be related to MC. Fur- thermore, neither an increased risk of colorectal cancer nor IBD was associated with MC in this study.

Circular single-stranded DNA(ssDNA)viruses have been rarely found in fungi,and the evolutionary and ecological relationships among ssDNA viruses infecting fungi and other organisms remain *** this study,a novel circular ssDNA virus,tentatively named Diaporthe sojae circular DNA virus 1(DsCDV1),was identified in the phytopathogenic fungus Diaporthe sojae isolated from pear ***1 has a monopartite genome(3185 nt in size)encapsidated in isometric virions(21-26 nm in diameter).The genome comprises seven putative open reading frames encoding a discrete replicase(Rep)split by an intergenic region,a putative capsid protein(CP),several proteins of unknown function(P1-P4),and a long intergenic ***,the two split parts of DsCDV1 Rep share high identities with the Reps of Geminiviridae and Genomoviridae,respectively,indicating an evolutionary linkage with both *** analysis based on Rep or CP sequences placed DsCDV1 in a unique cluster,supporting the establishment of a new family,tentatively named Gegemycoviridae,intermediate to both ***1 significantly attenuates fungal growth and nearly erases fungal virulence when transfected into the host ***,DsCDV1 can systematically infect tobacco and pear seedlings,providing broad-spectrum resistance to fungal *** localization analysis revealed that DsCDV1 P3 is systematically localized in the plasmodesmata,while its expression in trans-complementation experiments could restore systematic infection of a movement-deficient plant virus,suggesting that P3 is a movement ***1 exhibits unique molecular and biological traits not observed in other ssDNA viruses,serving as a link between fungal and plant ssDNA viruses and presenting an evolutionary connection between ssDNA viruses and *** findings contribute to expanding our understanding of ssDNA virus diversity and evolution,offering potential biocontrol applications for managing crucial plant d

Coated boron layers by boronization and a real-time boron coating using an impurity powder dropper in the LhD

In the Large helical Device(LhD),diborane(B2h6)is used as a standard boron source for boronization,which is assisted by helium glow *** 2019,a new Impurity Powder Dropper(IPD)system was installed and is under evaluation as a real-time wall conditioning *** the LhD,which is a large-sized heliotron device,an additional helium(he)glow discharge cleaning(GDC)after boronization was operated for a reduction in hydrogen recycling from the coated boron *** operational time of 3 h was determined by spectroscopic data during glow discharges.A flat hydrogen profile is obtained on the top surface of the coated boron on the specimen exposed to *** results suggest a reduction in hydrogen at the top surface by *** oxygen in coated boron was obtained by boronization,and the coated boron,which has boron-oxide,on the first wall by B-IPD was also *** the difference in coating areas between B2h6 boronization and B-IPD operation,it would be most effective to use the IPD and B2h6 boronization coating together for optimized wall conditioning.

Effects of soil metal(loid)s pollution on microbial activities and environmental risks in an abandoned chemical smelting site

Abandoned chemical smelting sites containing toxic substances can seriously threaten and pose a risk to the surrounding ecological *** samples were collected from different depths(0 to 13 m)and analyzed for metal(loid)s content and fractionation,as well as microbial *** potential ecological risk indices for the different soil depths(ordered from high to low)were:1 m(D-1)>surface(S-0)>5 m(D-5)>13 m(D-13)>9 m(D-9),ranging between 1840.65-13,089.62,and representing extremely high environmental risks,of which Cd(and probably not arsenic)contributed to the highest environmental risk.A modified combined pollution risk index(MCR)combining total content and mobile proportion of metal(loid)s,and relative toxicities,was used to evaluate the degree of contamination and potential environmental *** the near-surface samples(S-0 and D-1 layers),the MCR considered that As,Cd,Pb,Sb,and Zn achieved high and alarming degrees of contamination,whereas Fe,Mn,and Ti were negligible or low to moderate pollution *** microcalorimetry and enzymatic activity measurements of contaminated soil samples were used to assess the microbial metabolic activity *** analysis elucidated the relationship between metal(loid)s exchangeable fraction or content and microbial activity characteristics(phe microbial metabolic activity in the D-1 layer was low presumably due to heavy metal *** activity indicators and microcalorimetric growth rate(k)measurements were considered sensitive indicators to reflect the soil microbial activities in abandoned chemical smelting sites.

为准确获知花生贸易中商业批次的黄曲霉毒素水平,本研究通过模拟应用联合国粮食及农业组织(FAO)的农业品类真菌毒素取样模型,以脱壳整粒花生批次为模拟对象,在中国、日本法规限值下,分别设置实验室样品数目、实验室样品量和接受/拒绝限值,模拟每种组合超出法规限值的接收/放行概率。结果表明,在常规黄曲霉毒素风险的产季/产地下,批次能够满足>90%概率符合中国国标和日本法规的取样方案分别为:设置接受/拒绝限值为黄曲霉毒素B15~10 ng·g^(-1),实验室样品数目和样品量分别为2~3个、5~10 kg;设置接受/拒绝限值为黄曲霉毒素总量5 ng·g^(-1),实验室样品数目和样品量分别为3个、10 kg。推荐在以下3种高风险或风险不确定情景下应用此模型制订升级取样方案、调整接收限值、增强采购/销售信心:黄曲霉毒素高风险产季/产地采购;新开发的供应商/采购区域;批次超标预警时对新批次的放行,以免连续超标。本研究结果为中国花生加工/贸易企业提供了科学取样方案,进而为保障食品安全、保护企业经济利益提供了理论参考。

Three-stage pyrolysis–steam reforming–water gas shift processing of household,commercial and industrial waste plastics for hydrogen production

Five common single plastics and nine different household,commercial and industrial waste plastics were processed using a three-stage(i)pyrolysis,(ii)catalytic steam reforming and(iii)water gas shift reaction system to produce *** of plastics produces a range of different hydrocarbon species which are subsequently catalytically steam reformed to produce h_(2)and CO and then undergo water gas shift reaction to produce further h_(2).The process mimics the commercial process for hydrogen production from natural *** of the single polyalkene plastics(high-density polyethylene(hDPE),low-density polyethylene(LDPE),and polypropylene(PP))produced similar h_(2)yields between 115 mmol and 120 mmol per gram *** though PS produced an aromatic product slate from the pyrolysis stage,further stages of reforming and water gas shift reaction produced a gas yield and composition similar to that of the polyalkene plastics(115 mmol h_(2)per gram plastic).PET gave significantly lower h_(2)yield(41 mmol per gram plastic)due to the formation of mainly CO,CO_(2)and organic acids from the pyrolysis stage which were not conducive to further reforming and water gas shift reaction.A mixture of the single plastics typical of that found in municipal solid waste produced a h_(2)yield of 102 mmol per gram *** the gas yields and composition from the single plastics enabled an estimation of the yields from a simulated waste plastic mixture and a‘real-world’waste plastic mixture to be *** different household,commercial and industrial waste plastic mixtures produced h_(2)yields between 70 mmol and 107 mmol per gram *** h_(2)yield and gas composition from the single waste plastics gave an indication of the type of plastics in the mixed waste plastic samples.

Poor stability and dispersibility,as well as aggregation are considered as major challenges in clinical application of iron oxide nanoparticles(IONPs).Several studies have shown that the synthesis parameters and post-synthesis treatments e.g.,drying methods,have the capability to improve the particles'***,we investigate the combined effect of synthesis and post-treatment parameters on the particle size,stability and magnetism of ***(Fe_(3)O_(4))NPs were prepared via co-precipitation and post-treated using different methods,i.e.(i)freeze dried at-53℃,0.133 mbar for 48 h(liquid nitrogen frozen(LFD)and freezer frozen(FFD)),(ii)vacuum oven dried(VOD)at 60℃for 24 h,and(iii)kept wet colloidal(WET),dispersed in deionized *** Fe_(3)O_(4)NPs’chemical functional groups,size,shape,crystallinity,stability,aggregation,porosity,and magnetic properties were further analysed using different characterisation *** results showed that,while the WET sample had the best stability and significantly less aggregation at different temperatures,amongst post-treated Fe_(3)O_(4)NPs,LFD sample exhibited the best stability(up to 37℃),dispersion and smallest polydispersity ***,all dried NPs had superparamagnetic characteristics,while,LFD Fe_(3)O_(4)NPs had better magnetic properties and stability than other drying methods.

The purpose of this manuscript was to present the evidence for why cells do not produce metabolic *** addition,evidence that opposes common viewpoints and arguments used to support the cellular production of lactic acid(hLa)or liver keto-acids have been *** chemistry reveals that many molecules involved in cellular energy catabolism contain functional groups classified as *** two main acidic functional groups of these molecules susceptible to-h^(+) þrelease are the carboxyl and phosphoryl structures,though the biochemistry and organic chemistry of molecules having these structures reveal they are produced in a non-acidic ionic(negatively charged)structure,thereby preventing ph dependent -h^(+)þ*** evidence from the industrial production of hLa further reveals that lactate(La)is produced followed by an acidification step that converts La to hLa due to ph dependent-h^(+)þ***,there is a plentiful list of other molecules that are classified as acids and compared to hLa have similar values for their hþdissociation constant(pKd).For many metabolic conditions,the cumulative turnover of these molecules is far higher than for *** collective evidence documents the non-empirical basis for the construct of the cellular production of hLa,or any other metabolic acid.
