The fortuitously discovered liver lesion is a common problem. Consensus might be expected in terms of its work-up, and yet there is none. This stems in part from the fact that there is no preventive campaign involving the early detection of liver tumors other than for patients with known liver cirrhosis and oncological patients. The work-up (detection and differential diagnosis) of liver tumors comprises theoretical considerations, history, physical examination, laboratory tests, standard ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound techniques, contrastenhanced ultrasound (CEUS), computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, as well as imageguided biopsy. CEUS techniques have proved to be the most pertinent method; these techniques became part of the clinical routine about 10 years ago in Europe and Asia and are used for a variety of indications in daily clinical practice. CEUS is in many cases the first and also decisive technical intervention for detecting and characterizing liver tumors. This development is reflected in many CEUS guidelines, e.g. , in the European federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EfSUMB) guidelines 2004, 2008 and 2012 as well as the recently published World federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology-EfSUMB guidelines 2012. This article sets out considerations for making a structured work-up of incidental liver tumors feasible.

On the Chow Groups of Certain Cubic fourfolds

This note is about the Chow groups of a certain family of smooth cubic fourfolds. This family is characterized by the property that each cubic fourfold X in the family has an involution such that the induced involution on the fano variety f of lines in X is symplectic and has a K3 surface S in the fixed locus. The main result establishes a relation between X and S on the level of Chow motives. As a consequence, we can prove finite-dimensionality of the motive of certain members of the family. Career Performance Progressions of Junior and Senior Elite Track and field Athletes

Purpose To compare and assess differences in the career performance progressions of elite junior and Olympic track and field *** Annual best performances from top 8 men and women(***)in track and field events at the 2000 World Junior Championships(junior cohort)and the 2000 Olympic Games(Olympic cohort)were *** bests of these finalists were tracked each year from select groups:sprints(100 m,200 m),distance(1500 m,5000 m),jumps(long jump,high jump),throws(discus,shot put).Age of best lifetime performance,age of final posted performance,and improvement from junior-age best to lifetime best performance were compared between *** Olympic finalists achieved lifetime best performances at later ages than junior finalists[26.0±4.0 years vs.21.1±3.5 years;age difference 90%CI(3.7-5.2 years),Pficant age difference between cohorts was found within all four *** finalists improved from under-20 best to lifetime best more so than junior finalists[6.1±4.8%vs.2.5±2.3%;Age difference 90%CI(2.5-4.8%),Pf 130 junior finalists,54 did not improve after age 19,while 19 of 128 Olympic finalists posted no improvement after age *** The data suggest that these two populations have different career performance progressions and challenge the notion that achieving elite success as a junior athlete is a prerequisite for the same success at the senior level.

Biological Markers on Human Pregnancy

This article reviews a selected set of recently described pregnancy-associated proteins which possess potential for both signaling pregnancy onset and monitoring its course. These molecules are compared and contrasted with human chorionic gonadotropin, the first pregnancy-associated protein to be discovered, and the standard biomarker of pregnancy to which all others must still be referenced. Recent advances in hCG research have focused on the structural determination and diagnostic significance of the subunits and fragments of the hCG molecule, particularly in urine. An outline of the potential utility of this approach is also presented.

Discrete energetic(～50-200 keV) electron events in the high-altitude cusp/polar cap/lobe

We identified 28 discrete electron events(DEEs) with enhanced fluxes at ~50-200 keV in the high-altitude cusp/polar cap/lobe,using the electron measurements by the BeiDa Image Electron Spectrometer(BD-IES) instrument onboard an inclined(55°)geosynchronous orbit(IGSO) satellite from October 2015 to January 2016. We find that among the 28 DEEs, 22 occur in the nightside and mostly in the northern cusp/polar cap/lobe, while 6 occur in the dayside and all in the southern cusp; 24 events correspond to an average interplanetary magnetic field(IMf) component B_z>0, 3 correspond to an average IMf B_zf data. In these DEEs, the observed average omnidirectional electron differential flux generally fits well to a power-law spectrum, J^E^(-γ), with the spectral index y ranging from 2.6 to 4.6, while the average electron flux varies over three orders of magnitude from event to event. The spectral index of these cusp DEEs are(strongly) larger than the spectral index of solar wind superhalo electrons(radiation belt electrons) observed by the WIND 3 D Plasma & Energetic Particle instrument(the BD-IES). At^110 keV,the electron flux of DEEs in the cusp/polar cap/lobe shows a weak positive correlation with the solar wind superhalo electron flux but no obvious correlation with the radiation belt electron flux. These results suggest that these DEEs probably originate from transient processes acting on the solar wind superhalo electrons, e.g., the mid/high-latitude reconnection.

Rapid improvement in the speed of computers has enabled realistic simulations of magnetoconvective processes in the surface layers of the Sun. The simulations now cover a wide range of features found in observations. In many cases a direct comparison with the observations is justified, and in all cases our understanding and interpretation of the observations is being improved. Current and future opportunities and difficulties will be discussed.

Sour cherry(Prunus cerasus L.)is a valuable fruit crop in the Rosaceae family and a hybrid between progenitors closely related to extant Prunus fruticosa(ground cherry)and Prunus avium(sweet cherry).Here we report a chromosome-scale genome assembly for sour cherry cultivar Montmorency,the predominant cultivar grown in the *** also generated a draft assembly of *** to use alongside a published *** sequence for syntelog-based subgenome assignments for‘Montmorency’and provide compelling evidence *** is also an *** hierarchal k-mer clustering and phylogenomics,we show‘Montmorency’is trigenomic,containing two distinct subgenomes inherited from a ***-like ancestor(A and A’)and two copies of the same subgenome inherited from a ***-like ancestor(BB).The genome composition of‘Montmorency’is AA’BB and little-to-no recombination has occurred between progenitor subgenomes(A/A’and B).In Prunus,two known classes of genes are important to breeding strategies:the self-incompatibility loci(S-alleles),which determine compatible crosses,successful fertilization,and fruit set,and the Dormancy Associated MADS-box genes(DAMs),which strongly affect dormancy transitions and flowering *** S-alleles and DAMs in‘Montmorency’and *** were manually annotated and support subgenome ***,the hybridization event‘Montmorency’is descended from was estimated to have occurred less than 1.61 million years ago,making sour cherry a relatively recent ***‘Montmorency’genome highlights the evolutionary complexity of the genus Prunus and will inform future breeding strategies for sour cherry,comparative genomics in the Rosaceae,and questions regarding neopolyploidy.

A tunable diode laser absorption spectrometer （TDLAS） for formaldehyde atmospheric measurements has been set up and validated through comparison experiments with a fourier transform infrared spectrometer （fT-IR） in a simulation *** was generated in situ in the chamber from reaction of ethene with *** HCHO ro-vibrational line intensities （at 2909.71,2912.09 and 2914.46 cm-1） possibly used by TDLAS were calibrated by fT-IR spectra simultaneously recorded in the 1600–3200 cm-1 domain during ethene ozonolysis,enabling the on-line deduction of the varying concentration for HCHO in *** experimental line intensities values inferred confirmed the calculated ones from the updated HITRAN *** addition,the feasibility of stratospheric in situ HCHO measurements using the 2912.09 cm-1 line was *** TDLAS performances were also assessed,leading to a 2σ detection limit of 88 ppt in volume mixing ratio with a response time of 60 sec at 30 Torr and 294 K for 112 m optical *** part of this work,the room-temperature rate constant of this reaction and the HCHO formation yield were found to be in excellent agreement with the compiled literature data.

The Art of Authenticity： Constantin Stanislavski and Merleau-Ponty

Constantin Stanislavski＇s Russian acting system, further developed by contemporary methodological practices, and Maurice Merleau-Ponty＇s philosophy of the body as object-subject are compared to illustrate how simple, learned techniques can assist in the production of authentic and transparent interrelational presence. Authentic presence requires three components：（1） honest exposition of a person＇s singular, essential being; （2） empathy towards the needs of other, distinct and separate from the self; and （3） mutual reciprocation, which means giving back or responding somewhat equitably to the other with whom the self is in communication, and accepting the same respondence from the other if afforded. The comprehension of Merleau-Ponty＇s ontology combined with Stanislavski＇s performance technique is uniquely suited to interpersonal communications in the ＇real world＇. Stanislavski＇s artistic vision demands an intensity of attentive involvement in order to achieve onstage authenticity. Merleau-Ponty provides supportive philosophical schematics, especially in his controversial but effective use of the expression ＇flesh＇. While this study may initially appear to focus on the artist, the development of interrelational skills is reliably applicable to anyone who desires to obtain a higher degree of authenticity in collaborative presence.
